Check out this picture I found on the website last night! At the finish line…I actually sprinted and caught up to these three people.
Note:
I wasn’t anywhere near this pack!
HARD CORE!!!!!!!!!
By the way, that wasn’t all the food I had yesterday!
There was more…
I ended up eating the rest of this Optimum bar!
It was just kinda sitting there….so…
In my belly it went! Nothing was safe near me yesterday!
I didn’t care for it much. Actually, I scraped off the icing and ate it plain. It was better without it. :) I gobbled that up and was still hungry before bed, so I had a few handfuls of cereal. I couldn’t believe it but when I went to bed I was still hunrgy! But, then I passed out from exhaustion. Eric was like, ‘I’m super hungry too’…lol…like I said, the spectator sport is HARD work! He slept for 4 hours yesterday afternoon! bahaha.
I can’t believe it, but I’m barely, barely sore at all today! This is absolutely mind-blowing to me because I am typically always sore after long runs, and I was very sore after my 10k race last month. I think my pre-and post race nutrition plus immediate and continued stretching throughout the day yesterday REALLY helped! I think I stretched about 5 times yesterday and then a long one in bed before I hit the hay. :) Stretching rocks!!!
This morning, I wanted to celebrate my race with a fun new Green Monster, I’d like to call
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bomb Green Monster
Ingredients:
- 1/2 serving PC extra-firm organic tofu
- 3 cups steamed spinach (I made a big batch yesterday and put it in a glass pyrex dish)
- 1 T PC Just Peanuts Peanut Butter
- 1 T cocoa powder
- 1/2 T carob powder
- 1/2 scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate infusion powder
- 1 cup PC low-fat soy milk
- 1/3 cup water
- 3 cubes ice
- 1/2 T coconut oil
- 1 T chia seeds
- 1 small banana
Wow was this GM ever amazing!!! I felt like I was sipping on the smoothest, most luxurious drink ever. It was creamy, creamy, creamy! It actually made more than in the glass below and I quickly chugged it back straight out of the blender. ;)
I’ve got a crazy busy day of orders today (about 6!) so I need to get cracking in the kitchen.
Thank you to everyone for your congrats on my race!!! You all rock!
Have a great day!
I’ve learned a lot about incorporating healthy fats into my diet ( peanut butter, flax, coconut oil, chia seeds.) Rather than being worried about how much fat is in the food I eat, I should be thinking about fueling my body with good healthy fats, protein and carbs. When I was younger I worried about the number on the scale and now I’ve come to realize that with eating healthy and working out, the number comes to settle at a natural point. I love your motivational words. Thank you!
I have learned the importance of strength training. I took a break from it for awhile and have realized how much better I feel when I fit strength training into my workout routines. I’ve never tried Amazing Grass products, but I’d love to someday!!
I’ve learned all of the benefits of chia seeds from lovely blogs like yours! I had never really heard of them before but now I am anxious to go out and try some for myself. I can’t wait to add them to my green monsters! :)
I’ve learned that when it comes to feeling good about yourself and your body, the scale has NOTHING to do with it.
I stepped on a scale recently and wasn’t exactly jazzed about the number, mainly because I felt SO much lighter than what it told me. That’s when I realized-it’s just a fluctuating number and doesn’t reflect my body other than by its mass. I am stronger, healthier, and more toned than I’ve been in my life. Most importantly, I feel proud that my body is not only able to survive, but excel at the grueling workouts I put it through. That’s something the scale can NEVER tell me.
I no longer rely on the scale to tell me how to feel. It is silly to be sad over some worthless numbers.
What an awesome giveaway!
In the nutrition department I have learned: What works for some may not work for others. Everyone’s body is different and you have to find the right combination of foods that work for you!
Fitness wise, recently, I have learned to NOT push yourself when injured. Running my most recent half marathon was a HUGE mistake. I ignored a reoccurring injury and now I’m out indefinitely from running. Sigh. Live and learn.
Oh my, I’ve learned so much! I’ve learned to be thankful for what my body can do, instead of criticizing it for what it cannot do, I’ve learned how to properly fuel before and after workouts to get the most out of my exercise, I’ve learned how to train for a race and how to properly stretch to protect my hips from getting injuried. Thanks for the great giveaway!!
I have learned that rest days while training for races are VERY important! I used to push myself hard in exercise almost every day, but new research that I’ve been reading shows that rest days really help the body recover and thus, help you perform better. Now that I incorporate rest days into my training, I run faster and stronger!
I’ve learned that every bit of daily activity helps (i.e. walking down the street, walking to a co-worker’s office, etc.). Sometimes people are focused on “working out” yet they take the elevator instead of the stairs. Moving always counts!
I have learned that eating unprocessed/raw foods are DELICIOUS!!! And to think I always thought devouring a big bowl of ice cream before bed was OK, since I worked out that day!
I read an excerpt in Tosca Reno’s Eating Clean book that 80% of what your body looks like is due to what you put in your body. (10% is from exercise & the other 10% is genetic.)
I would LOVE to win the Amazing Grass giveaway, the product is delicious and I am dying for that shaker! Love your blog!!!
The teacher at the yoga class I went to during the school year once said that every 3 weeks (I think? I forget the exact length of time but that’s not the important part) every cell in our body is renewed. Not to get into the biology of it; our cells are always growing and dividing and so on, but what I took from it is that my body is *constantly* changing. It’s so important to take stock of what’s going on *right now* in our bodies, understanding that it won’t be this way forever. It also helps me deal with a crappy workout, changes in my ability to do Downward Dog, whatever.
I’ve reaffirmed the importance of including the good kinds of fats in my daily diet!
I’ve learned that chia seeds are amazing! :P
I’ve learned that once you change your diet to include mostly whole foods, you can begin to taste the chemicals, extra salt, extra sugar, etc. in all the processed foods. And it doesn’t taste good!
Congratulations on the run! Lately I’ve been learning about the nutritional powerhouse that is CHIA SEEDS! They are expensive but I think I might try them to see what the hype is about.
:) Loving the website.
Lately I’ve been reading a lot about the importance of Vitamin D. Almost everyone is deficient, even if you spend a lot of time in the sun. Plus, the RDA is probably much lower than the amount we should be getting, so a regular multivitamin doesn’t necessarily cover you. Vitamin D doesn’t really occur naturally in food sources, so you’ve got to take a supplement. It’s been linked to preventing all sorts of cancers, MS, memory loss, and more – so buy some Vitamin D pills today!!!
I have learned that we don’t need NEARLY as much protein as we have been led to believe.
I’ve learned that you need to LISTEN to your body. Sometimes we do need a break from the gym, a little extra protein or a rest!
I’ve learned that you need to eat real food and listen to yourself. It’s not exactly rocket science but sometimes is important to get back to the basics!
I learned that living a vegan lifestyle was one of the best decisions I have ever made!
