Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bomb Green Monster

July 20, 2009

Check out this picture I found on the website last night! At the finish line…I actually sprinted and caught up to these three people.

Note:

I wasn’t anywhere near this pack!

HARD CORE!!!!!!!!!

By the way, that wasn’t all the food I had yesterday!

There was more…

I ended up eating the rest of this Optimum bar!

It was just kinda sitting there….so…

IMG_0156

In my belly it went! Nothing was safe near me yesterday!

I didn’t care for it much. Actually, I scraped off the icing and ate it plain. It was better without it. :) I gobbled that up and was still hungry before bed, so I had a few handfuls of cereal. I couldn’t believe it but when I went to bed I was still hunrgy! But, then I passed out from exhaustion. Eric was like, ‘I’m super hungry too’…lol…like I said, the spectator sport is HARD work! He slept for 4 hours yesterday afternoon! bahaha.

I can’t believe it, but I’m barely, barely sore at all today! This is absolutely mind-blowing to me because I am typically always sore after long runs, and I was very sore after my 10k race last month. I think my pre-and post race nutrition plus immediate and continued stretching throughout the day yesterday REALLY helped! I think I stretched about 5 times yesterday and then a long one in bed before I hit the hay. :) Stretching rocks!!!

This morning, I wanted to celebrate my race with a fun new Green Monster, I’d like to call

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bomb Green Monster

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 serving PC extra-firm organic tofu
  • 3 cups steamed spinach (I made a big batch yesterday and put it in a glass pyrex dish)
  • 1 T PC Just Peanuts Peanut Butter
  • 1 T cocoa powder
  • 1/2 T carob powder
  • 1/2 scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate infusion powder
  • 1 cup PC low-fat soy milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 cubes ice
  • 1/2 T coconut oil
  • 1 T chia seeds
  • 1 small banana

Wow was this GM ever amazing!!! I felt like I was sipping on the smoothest, most luxurious drink ever. It was creamy, creamy, creamy! It actually made more than in the glass below and I quickly chugged it back straight out of the blender. ;)

I’ve got a crazy busy day of orders today (about 6!) so I need to get cracking in the kitchen.

Thank you to everyone for your congrats on my race!!! You all rock!

Have a great day!

Hi! I have learned that buying organic produce allows me to ‘vote’ with my dollar! If everyone bought organic, and ate less meat, we’d all feel better and show the food stores that there’s a higher demand for GOOD food than they think. I SURE FEEL BETTER EATING THIS WAY!!! Real food is the way to go!!!

I’ve learned that if I want to be a strong, healthy runner, I can’t continue to eat like a starving, emaciated anorexic. Bring on the healthy food! Thank you for your blog Angela. It helps so much to know other people have fought the same fight as me and won!

I’ve learned the wonders of a green monster. I typically eat spinach every day anyways but I love the wonderful combination of spinach, bananas, almond milk, and other healthy combinations before 8am!My body feels fantastic and only need one cup of coffee…lol.

Just recently, I learned how important it is to fuel before a workout and during, if it will be over a certain amount of time. I am also learning to appreciate and love my body, and fueling it with healthy, whole foods is a great way to say thank you for everything it does!

Recently i read more about food combining and I really think it has been helping me. I’ve tried it for about two weeks – not really following the ‘rules’ to a T, but definitely being more aware of what I’m putting together when i eat. I feel much less discomfort in my tummy. :)

What I have learned is that listening to my body is the BEST thing I can do. I used to run run run run run (I could write this forever and it wouldn’t add up) and never really rest, even my rest days weren’t treated as such. Now I know that I need to feed my body and not run as much if I want to see improvements in my run with regards to how I feel while running and my over all mood!

I have also learned that spinach in a smoothie is the best thing EVER!

Thank you for everything you do Angela!

I have learned how important it is to refuel as soon as possible after a workout. Your muscles are “starving” for nutrients and a protein shake can give them just what they need!

I’ve learned how important is to get some healthy fats in your diet, it’s important for some vitamins that are only fat-soluble. I’ve also learned that a lot of stretching is not essential before a run, it actually can decrease performance.

I’ve learnt a lot of general stuff, like that I need to listen to my body when it says it’s too tired to work out! (sleep also helps me to make better food choices!)
One specific thing I’ve learnt that I guess is related to nutrition- I already knew that Calcium was important for Vitamin D absorption. I learnt that the magnesium included with many calcium supplements is basically only to balance out the effect of calcium on the GI tract (ahem, constipation).

I’ve learned that sugar does not make me feel good – my head and body react to it in a negative way. no matter how tempting it is, avoid! avoid! (of course, I don’t always succeed that battle)

I have recently been learning about the benefits and negative effects of caffeine. I recently gave it up because I read that it caused cellulite. But now I’m learning about fat burning benefits. I’m listening to my body and staying away! Would LOVE that grass!

I’ve learned that chia seeds are the new flax seeds and that they provide an immense amount of nutrition. I can’t wait to try them out in a Green Monster tomorrow morning! If only I had some Amazing Grass to add to it…hmmm :O)

Hello Angela-

Something important I have learned recently is that something healthy I will not eat does me no good. The key is to select foods that are healthy but also that i enjoy. And by reminding myself how healthy something is…a carrot tastes about as delicious as a brownie!!

I have learned that it’s okay to take rest days, in fact it makes my other workouts stronger!

Woooohooooo congrats on your race!!! You go girl, that is such an accomplishment. DOUBLE DIGITS BABY!!

I’ve recently learned that it’s A-OK to only spend 30 minutes at the gym. Gym workouts don’t have to be hours of max-calories burning sweat sessions. They are meant to be healthful, self-empowering ways to make you FEEL GOOD about yourself. So if I don’t have the time, or am too tired, 30 minutes is WONDERFUL!!

I learned that plant based sources of Omega 3’s (flaxseed, chia, walnuts, etc) are not complete sources. Omega 3 fatty acids are DHA, EPA, and ALA. Plant sources are lacking the most important components of Omega 3 (DHA and EPA) and only contain ALA. Our bodies can only convert a very smally amount of ALA to DHA- no where near the “therapeuatic amount needed. DHA/EPA are the components that are believed to provide the benefits when people say “benefits of Omega 3”. Fish and some sea vegetables (like krill) naturally contain the complete Omega 3’s. Therefore, to get the benefits of Omega 3 you need to eat fish or take supplements such as fish or krill oil. Flax/chia etc are healthful in other ways by providing nutrients and fiber but should not be lokoed at sources of Omega 3.

I have learned that cardio isn’t the solution to all of my problems and I also need to incorporate weights into my workouts.

I’ve recently learned that combining fruit with other foods isn’t the optimum way to eat it. Since fruit is so light, heavier foods are digested first which causes the fruit to fester in the digestive tract.
