Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!
And quite chilly this morning too.
Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!
It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).
Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…
We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.
He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)
We are absolutely in love with it:
It’s incredibly soft and comfy…
and will be great for entertaining!
…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…
We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.
The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:
and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.
We also tried here:
and it looked even more odd…
So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????
I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.
And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?
We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

US Yoga Mat by Aurorae Giveaway!
To my US readers: I know that Canadian only Oral-B contest was tough to swallow yesterday! I really wish I could have opened it up to US residents too, but I was not able to. Well, today we have a US resident only contest because all is fair in love and war on OSG.
The wonderful people from Aurorae are willing to giveaway one new yoga mat to a lucky US reader!
I can’t review the mat myself as they do not ship to Canada, but I’d be curious to hear what you think of it should you win one.
You get to choose the COLOUR of your mat should you win!!!
How to enter:
- Leave a comment on this post telling me what you would do with our extra brown couch (hahah) AND what colour of mat you would choose.
Rules: Open to US residents only please. Contest closes Thursday Dec. 3rd at noon EST.
Goodluck!
Canucks: Don’t forget to enter the Oral-B Giveaway!

Ok, now that this home reno stuff is out of my system, I promise to get back to my health posts and hot topics!!!!

I have an architecture degree and work as a Space Planner. If you send me a lyout of your space I can help you figure out where to put the couch! Personally, I would get a cover for it, maybe in red or beige, and put it in another room!
I would choose Solar! I like the description and orange is my fave color.
By the way, your new couch looks superb!
Can you recover the old couch and use it in another part of the house?
I would go with black. I love black for anything!
I LOVE the new couch!!! Great color!
I would donate the couch to the ASPCA thrift store…all proceeds directly benefit homeless animals!
As for the mat, I love the Seamist….so earthy :)
I have several ideas for the couch:
1. Freecycle it
2. Put it back up on Craigslist and reap the benefits
3. Donate it to a homeless shelter, women’s shelter, teen center, etc… whatever you feel passionate about really. For example, a local woman’s center here collects pieces of furniture and other essentials so that women leaving abusive relationships can get back on their feet. You can share your love and passion for healthy living to someone who really needs it!
And for the yoga mat? I personally like Solar or Violet. Both would really brighten up my dreary winter days indoors… and get me ready for my adventures outdoors (snowshoeing, here I come!). :) Cheers!
Another vote for selling the old couch on craigslist. Your new couch is so pretty and big – which seems to clash with the older couch. I’d sell it and use the money to buy something else for that area.
As for the yoga mat, I’d pick seamist!
Oh, pick me, I’d be HAPPY to do a review of the yoga mat! ;) I think I’d pick the seamist one. The violet is gorgeous too. And the ocean is pretty, but I think seamist would be more relaxing to look at! :)
I’d get rid of the couch on craigslist before your xmas party. I think the room looks so much better without it. Plus, your new couch has tons of seating. If you feel like you REALLY need extra seating, I would get a card table with some chairs (and a great table cloth, of course), and put it where you currently have the old couch. I doubt you’d have three people sitting back there on that couch away from everyone else. And I love the non-cluttered look. But that’s just me!
I would put your old couch right back on craiglist! The money that you make on that would make your purchase of the new couch even cheaper! If I won the yoga mat I would definitly choose violet! Purple is my favorite color. I am even planning my June wedding around all shades of purple!
Could you donate the couch? Or reupholster with a new fabric that you love for another part of your house?
Love your new couch!
I would go with the violet mat. I need a yoga mat!
I would complete the Craigslist circle of life and put your old couch up for sale on Craigslist so someone who needs a smaller couch can buy it! ;)
As for yoga mat color, I would go with Solar because it reminds me of sunshine and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Ocean or violet :)
Not sure on the couch… put it in another room? Or sell it on craigslist and make some $$ back?
Yay! I’m finally a US resident again, so I can enter your contests! :)
Can you put the brown couch in another room to add more seating throughout the house? Maybe in the office?
I like the violet yoga mat :) Nice and calming…
I would love either Seamist or violet.
I would suggest putting your extra couch into a spare bedroom if you have the room? We have the same problem, big furniture in a smallish room. You could also consider asking a close friend if they could store it until you are ready or have a place for it?
Thanks for the giveaway! :-)
Dana
basement? guest room? or right onto Craigslist?!
I want seamist! :D
I would probably sell the couch BUT if you need it first I like the second picture with a corner table between the two couches.
And solar for the mat would be my choice
Oohhh I love the violet mat. Since you can’t seem to find a place for it, I would put the couch on craigslist and let someone else give it some love (re-recycling?). you can make a little money towards the new couch or just give it away for free.. tis the season haha!
I’d keep that couch facing the fireplace, at least for Christmas season! After that, if you haven’t found a place for it – sell it!
And I would have to go for the solar for the mat, I loovee orange!
I would put the brown couch in your office so that you have a place to lounge while the other one of you is working :-)
and I want the seamist yoga mat – green is my favorite color!
Unless there’s another room in your house desperately in need of some more seating, I’d get rid of it via Craigslist. Plus, then you could get some extra cash in your pocket for x-mas gifts!
For the yoga mat, I’m drawn to the seamist and solar mats. Both would make me feel happy during my mat sessions.
You could put the couch on craigslist…or do you know a college student who needs some dorm/apartment furniture? I’m sure it would be much appreciated!
I’d totally go for the ocean yoga mat!
Loving the new sectional! I would keep the old sofa facing the fireplace until after Christmas and then sell it or donate it.
I would pick the Infinity yoga mat.
