US Aurorae Yoga Mat Giveaway!

December 1, 2009

Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!

And quite chilly this morning too.

Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!

Let me explain…

Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!

It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).

Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…

We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.

He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)

We are absolutely in love with it:

It’s incredibly soft and comfy…

IMG_7651

and will be great for entertaining!

IMG_7652 IMG_7654

…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…

We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.

The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:

IMG_7662

and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.

We also tried here:

IMG_7657

and it looked even more odd…

So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????

I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.

And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?

We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

I would cover the couch in a plastic slipcover (just like grandma’s) and put it on the porch. I’d choose the seafoam mat, it seems very peaceful.

Your new couch looks great! You might could give the old one to the goodwill/salvation army to donate to a needy family for Christmas :)

If I had a new yoga mat (which I desperately need) I think I would choose to have a purple one. A relaxing & soothing color wouldn’t hurt my practice right?

Great giveaway…thanks!

I might have a better idea if I could really see the room, but I think it looks okay how you have it now. I’d probably wait til after the holidays then sell it. As for the yoga mat, I’d love to choose black!

I love the new couch and agree completely that you find some amazing things on Craigslist!!! Can you fit the couch in your bedroom perhaps or in a guest room?

I love the mat in purple!

The current setup looks fine, although with so much seating already, I’d personally take the extra space over the additional couch…

The Seamist color is pretty! :)

I would put the couch on Craigslist….or give it to me so we can replace the lame futon in our common room! ;)

I would choose either the Violet or Solar color!

That new couch is perfect! I would say leave the old couch in the living room (or is it the family room?) for the Christmas holiday. I can’t see the whole room so it is hard to say if the original couch can be arranged with the new one in some other way that you prefer. Anyway, leaving it in the room may get you brainstorming about how it could used in that room or another room that needs comfy furniture in it (kitchen?).

Anyhoo, the color yoga mat I would pick is Infinity :)

Your new couch look beautiful…

My wife & I had a similar problem when they gave us a beautiful couch and love-seat. I was loathe to throw away perfectly good seating.

At first we did the same as you, putting the old couch back to back with the new one. Effective, but odd.

We ended up with the old couch going upstairs in a guest bedroom where it just barely fits next to the bed in there. It will be used as a second spare bed if necessary, or a place to sit for our guests.

The old love seat was moved to the game room to be used when playing video games.

So if you have a guest room or a game room I’d put the old couch there.

And if you send me a mat, please send me an ocean colored one. Seamist would fit the colors of the room better, but then the mat might become an area rug and we wouldn’t want that!

I would violet! Beautiful :O)

Maybe you should sell your other couch on Craigslist. You can use the $$ to pay off part of your new couch purchase!

What about your office? Or living room? Or sell on Craigslist? I like all your home reno stuff a lot! Keep it up! I would choose the sea mist yoga mat.

Hi Angela,

I think you should donate the couch through a battered women’s shelter. Perhaps you can give a woman who is forced to start over in her life a couch for her new living situation.

Anyhow, congrats on the new couch! I got a nice gently used one off craigslist as well. Paying retail would have killed me! ;)

I would go for the Ocean yoga mat.

Hmm…can you pass your couch on to someone else just starting off on their own or maybe donate it to a local family in need? As for the yoga mat, I would choose lavender because it is a soothing color for me…or maybe the orange for energy!

how big is your kitchen? This may sound weird, but one time my family was renting a house while building and we had no room for a couch in the tv room but had extra space in the kitchen. We thought it would be really weird, but it turned out to be the hang out spot! Since so much goes on in the kitchen, it was a great place to kick back and relax or chat or do whatever while eating, baking or whatever in the kitchen. I loved it! Good luck!
I love the seamist color! Thanks!!

I love the violet color b/c it is the color of my bridesmaid dresses from my wedding 8 years ago:) And I think a new Yoga mat would be the key to getting my body all de-stressed after having 5 kids:)

As far as the brown couch…def. Craigslist after your Christmas party…but until then do you have room in a guest room or basement for your friends to crash?

I would definitely donate your old couch to a shelter in the Toronto area or the Salvation Army. They will get good use out of it! I’d love the Infinity mat. I love the idea of endless possibilities :D. xo, maura

I would defiantly say to put the couch in another room like an office or somewhere you could use the seating! Its such great piece, if you don’t want it I will defiantly take it :)

I would pick either the purple or black yoga mat. I cant decide because my current yoga mat is purple and its my little baby and it needs replaced or black because it matches just about everything :)

I would either sell the couch on Ebay – or toss a weatherproof slip cover on it and use it in the backyard area. If I won the mat I would definitely choose the ocean color – it’s vibrant and calming at the same time.
