Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!
And quite chilly this morning too.
Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!
It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).
Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…
We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.
He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)
We are absolutely in love with it:
It’s incredibly soft and comfy…
and will be great for entertaining!
…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…
We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.
The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:
and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.
We also tried here:
and it looked even more odd…
So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????
I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.
And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?
We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

Ok, now that this home reno stuff is out of my system, I promise to get back to my health posts and hot topics!!!!

Do you need the old couch? Maybe you could sell it on craigslist or give it to a friend?
I would choose the Solar yoga mat!!
Concerning the sofa, I would either but it in an office if ya’ll have one or sell it/donate it on craigslist if you don’t! That way you could make someone happy the same way the people with sectional did for you. :)
& as for the yoga mat, I like the ocean color! I have an old mat from wal-mart that is seriously all dingy & on its last leg & could definitely use a new one. :)
Hi there!
I would donate the couch to the Salvation Army….goes to a good cause, and the best part – they come pick it up! :-)
I’d have to go with the color “ocean”…I’m just a coastal girl at heart. Love the beach!
Take care!
I would definitely donate the couch to Goodwill or recycle it on Craig’s List in the same manner in which you bought your new couch. Your “old” items can be someones treasure, whether for someone who is less fortunate, or for someone looking to be thrifty or creative. My husband and I also used Craig’s List when we first moved in to a place together, and it is a fabulous resource for hidden gems.
I would choose the yoga mat in violet, not only because it’s my favorite color, but it reminds me of lavender, which is soothing and peaceful.
I love your new couch! It looks fantastic! I check craigslist just about every day.
If I had an extra brown couch I would definitely replace the gross couch I currently have. It basically has a huge hole in it and is pretty dirty. It came with my apartment so I put up with it but I would love to get rid of it!
You have a basement, you could try putting the couch there. I really like the ocean blue yoga mat.
Definitely re-sell it on craigslist. Maybe someone needs that couch and will love it as much as you did with your new one!
I think I’d pick the Green Mat. HOORAY YOGA MATS!
Keep that good karma flow flowing and donate it to someone in need. Christmas time is the perfect time for this…in return who knows you may find a killer deal on a new table & more!
If not that, then you could have a couch giveaway at your Christmas party, can you say “door prize”!
LOL…jokin’!
I would love to win the infinity black mat, as i liked the “endless possibilities” description…i am believing that 2010 will be that for me!
I love craigslist. I even found my apartment on there for a fabulous price! Do you have room in your bedroom or an office for the other couch? At my parents house, we have a couch in the study which adds comfy seating and can always be a “spare guest room” in a pinch.
I’d choose the violet met :o)
I really like your spare couch! I’d take it! Just kidding, I think it would make a nice addition to an office/computer room. It looks comfy to sit on, that’s what we need in our office, something comfy for the person who’s not at the computer to sit on.
I like Solar, it’s so sunny and cheerful!
Pay it forward! Since you got such a good find in this holly jolly giving season, I agree with people that are suggesting donating it and so forth. But my idea is to donate it to an animal shelter, and they can use it as a big doggie bed or as the couch in a waiting area. I work with a humane society shelter here in the states and all of the donations are fantastic! Solar would be the color for me… energizing!
can you show us a picture of the whole room so we can get some spacing ideas for the couch??
James and I found the most awesome coffee table on craigslist for 25 bucks!!!! it matches everything perfectly. i heart craigslist.
what to do with your OTHER brown couch:
1. resell on Craig’s list (you probably don’t need your other brown couch because the one you just bought is soo hugeee!)
2. if you have an inside patio, you could move the couch to there
3. burn it??? haha I can’t think up any other good ideas, except to sell it, really. Or you could give it away to a friend? I was thinking you could give it away on the blog but it would have to be a nearby blogger fan or the shipping would be crazzzzy!
And I would most likely choose violet. because I like it :] I have been wanting a yoga mat for sooooo long. I’ve been really into yoga since the summer, but stilhaven’t gotten one. Anywho,if I don’t win this one, I’m hoping to get one for Christmas!
1. Donate the couch to a local school or kids library.
2. I’d love the yoga mat in Ocean… it describes me (errr, what I strive to be) AND today’s my birthday.
1. Spread the love, put the couch up on Craigslist!
2. Ocean yoga mat…the beach is my “happy place” so that seems perfect.
I would put the old couch on Craigs list. BTW the new one looks realy good in your room! For the yoga mat I would choose “ocean”, the color looks very soothing.
put it on craigslist?
I would like violet :)
Do you have a spare room it would fit in? It’s always great to have extra seating available that you can pull out if necessary.
I would pick the seamist. I am usually not a green lover but that color just appeals to me for some reason.
I LOVE the new couch!!! I am definite a little jealous of that find :)
I would just leave it back to back for the holidays and then see if there is another room for the couch after the holidays are over.
As for the yoga mat — I love the violet one!!!
If you could fit that bad boy in the kitchen, it would be a rockin’ place for Eric to lounge and hang with you while you’re baking up a storm, girl!
Seamist would be my color of choice – thanks Angela!
