Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!
And quite chilly this morning too.
Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!
It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).
Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…
We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.
He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)
We are absolutely in love with it:
It’s incredibly soft and comfy…
and will be great for entertaining!
…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…
We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.
The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:
and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.
We also tried here:
and it looked even more odd…
So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????
I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.
And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?
We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

Ok, now that this home reno stuff is out of my system, I promise to get back to my health posts and hot topics!!!!

I would donate your couch to a local women’s shelter where they help women and children get back on their feet. It would do far more good than the few bucks you could earn from a craigslist sale and you would feel good in the process.
I would like the violet mat!
okay well i would pick the black yoga mat because i love black (i promise i am not a soul sucker haha) and as for the couch….obvious solution: use it to make a fort :)
I would try selling your old couch on Craigs list…why not share the love?
Solar mat for me!
An extra brown couch? I have no idea what I would do with it…if it was at my house it would be up on craigslist to be sold since we have no more room for extra furniture.
I would love the infinity mat!
You know, slip covers work wonders on old furniture. I put a slipcover on my old couch and it looks like a new piece of furniture! The seamist yoga mat is my fav :)
Do you have a spare bedroom for the couch? you could make it into a cozy little room. I would definitely want to wine a VIOLET yoga mat! This is a great giveaway.
I like the back to back couches… looks like the ones they have in the middle of big museum galleries. And I’d pick ocean because I love blue and I need a new mat!
I would put the old couch in another room… office, maybe? Or guest room.
I’d choose the OCEAN mat, the deep blue color is so relaxing!
I would use that couch in another room(office, bonus, basement, etc.) if you can, if not sell it and use the money for something unexpected.
I would choose seamist as the color of the mat, as it seems that it would give me more of the right kind of energy that I need for yoga!
So if I had a spare couch I would put it in my “relaxation room”. That’s my room that has all my books, my photography equiptment & editing items. How great to curl up with a book on your comfy couch!
I LOVE the Violet mat! I want a yoga mat so bad- and the color reminds me of my wedding. :)
I’m torn between ocean and solar.
If I had an extra couch (and room for it!) I’d dedicate it to our dogs use. :)
i know other readers have probably said this, but i’d sell your old couches on craigslist and use the money to buy something else that would complement the new furniture – which by they way looks sooooooooo. comfortable.
i’d pick the seamist yoga mat! how calming…
I say put your couch on FREE craiglsit–karma, you know? Someone is in need, and you got a great deal on yours!
I would choose an ocean blue for my husband because he sais he would actually start doing yoga with me for his new year’s resolution!!!!!
I would put the couch in my basement. hmm I guess that only works if you have a basement!
I would be happy with any color yoga mat! I’m not a picky girl.
I would choose violet or seamist. As for the couch– I would donate it to a local homeless shelter or non-profit of some sort. I once worked at a battered women’s shelter and they would have killed for that couch.
Donate the couch to charity and write if off!! :)
I want that mat in Ocean!! :)
I think the couch should be deemed Sketchie’s couch and reserve it just for him!
I would love the violet mat!
Donate the sofa!! :) and I would absolutely love the yoga mat :D
Looks like you have an outdoor patio? I would put a waterproof cover on it and put it outside for bbq and outdoor entertaining! Or just put it out there and completely relive university days ;)
I think infinity has great symbolism – I would choose that color for a yoga mat. Thanks!
i think the back-to-back couches are cute!! i mean you can’t really tell because we don’t actually know what your home looks like :) if it really looks that “odd” you should craiglist it! as for the yoga mat, violet all the way :) love your blog btw!!
