Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!
And quite chilly this morning too.
Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!
It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).
Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…
We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.
He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)
We are absolutely in love with it:
It’s incredibly soft and comfy…
and will be great for entertaining!
…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…
We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.
The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:
and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.
We also tried here:
and it looked even more odd…
So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????
I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.
And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?
We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

Ok, now that this home reno stuff is out of my system, I promise to get back to my health posts and hot topics!!!!

I would pick the black mat b/c the potential for endless possibilities is something I could use right now! :)
As for the couch. I would sell it and use the money on a fun night out!
Nice sofa! Having the chaise on there is such a bonus. I think I would keep your old sofa back-to-back with the new one. It allows people to even talk to those behind them … plus, it looks like it was facing your fireplace, which would be cozy for a holiday party.
I would choose the violet mat – meditative and soothing? Yes, please!
WOW! Great find! That couch looks brand new! And I love the color! If you have an office or spare bedroom you could put the extra couch in there. I did this with my old couch, when I a bought a new one. I put it in the office where my hubby’s computer is. It is great because I can lounge on the couch and talk to him while he is working on the computer.
If I were to win the yoga mat, I would choose SOLAR because you can’t miss that color! It would remind me to do some yoga! Plus I love the energizing orange color!
Is there space in your bedroom for the couch? Maybe next to the door on the left (if there is enough space)? If I won a yoga mat (which I would LOVE!) I would get the infinity color. I’m dying for a new yoga mat, but can’t justify/afford buying one for myself right now. I need to spend my money on the gifts I’m planning on buying for others over the holidays!
I would switch the tree and the new couch – put the Christmas tree in the corner where the chaise is currently. I can’t exactly see whats on the other side, but if you have enough room you could put the old couch next to the long side of the new couch as kind of an extension.
And…I would pick the Solar color – it looks so energetic!
I would
1. Donate the couch to charity, enjoying the knowledge that it will go to good use and the tax write off :)
2. I would LOVE the infinty mat. What could be better than endless possibilities???
I would donate it to a woman’s shelter or any other agency that takes furniture for donations. There are plenty of people, especially single moms, who are in need of new furniture. If anything, you would be helping their children have a place to sit.
I really enjoy the seamist color ( or colour ) ;)
I would definitely sell the couch on ebay or craiglist! It’s pretty easy to sell things like furniture there, so that’s what I’d do. And, oh my gosh, I’d love the violet colored yoga mat! It’s beautiful!
I would keep the extra couch through the holidays (you never know!) and then try to donate it or resell it. Just think–you might make someone else just as happy about getting a new couch!
And I love the violet yoga mat :)
What a gorgeous couch! Love it!
In college, having a couch on thr front porch was the cool thing to do…hahaha! I would list the couch on Craigslist or donate it to a shelter or someplace similiar where it would go to a family that could really use it.
The violet yoga mat is beautifu…that would be my pick! I have been wanting a yoga mat. I am new to yoga and would love to have my own mat!
having had a spare couch of my own recently, i contacted a local girls & boys club (i’m not sure if you have those up in the snowy north!) who put it in their lounge area at their local hangout. i also donated a bookcase, so last time i spoke to the coordinator i believe they were looking to make a reading nook. if not, you could always put it in your bedroom. my fiance and i have a chair and a half (it fits both of us) in our bedroom that we often sit in and talk to each other as we get ready for work or bed. its a pretty great way to reconnect without laying down and being in danger of the snore zone.
also – if you are crafty (which you are!) you should look into a local carpenter or try to modify the table yourself. a re-stain and some shaving/contouring of the existing table can create a whole new one!
i would love the blue color!
I would probably put the couch on Craigslist. Or find another area in the house that it would fit in.
I would looooove the seamist mat.
Hi Angela. Id give the couch to Sketchie. Plenty of room, a little worn in, but make sure you put it under a window for continuous sun bathing!!
and i dont care ab a color of a yoga mat, as long as its good support during my yoga xo
i would choose the ocean color!
as for the couch, i think i would donate it. maybe craigslist?
I would pick the violet… so pretty! I think you should find a cute slip cover and put it in your basement. Or sell it on craigs list!
Do you have a spare bedroom were you could work the couch into? I have 2 living room sets, one of which furnishes a spareroom in my house. It’s great for guests!! And about the yoga mat, I have been looking for one for a while, but I’m so cheap!! I would love the seamist one!
I would choose solar because yellow is my favorite color, and I’m actually moving into my first single bedroom apartment on Jan 1st and looking for a couch so I would LOVE your old brown one!!! too bad Canada is so far away…. :(
I would put that old brown couch on craigs list!! I LOVE craigs list : )
It would be Ocean for me all the way!
I agree with the other posters who suggested selling the brown couch and then using the money for a new coffee table :)
I would love the ocean blue yoga mat. The ocean is my happy place :)
I would put the couch the way you have it in your second photo. I would pick the yoga mat in VIOLET! ;c)
