Just like smoothies, I make toast just about every day of the week in some form or other. It’s one of my favourite quick and easy lunches or snacks. It’s hard to beat the comforting, warm, and crunchy experience that toast provides in just a few minutes. Plus, the flavour possibilities are endless! I’ve always preferred an open-faced sandwich to the traditional kind because I can load on the toppings as much as I please and if it ever gets out of control I just eat it with a knife and fork. Fancy, right? Since we’ll soon be relying on our toaster quite a bit during our kitchen reno in August, I thought it would be nice to round up some of my favourite toast combos of late – two savoury and two sweet. Be sure to share your favourite toast combos (or dream combos) below!
For my chia seed jam recipe, see this post. Note: You can use any kind of fruit you prefer. Some large fruit pieces (like frozen mango or strawberries) will benefit from a gentle mashing near the middle of cooking.

I shared this beauty on Instagram the other day and it had a great response which is why I thought a toast round-up might be a nice change of pace! This combo is probably my most made toast ever…I just can’t get enough of it. Tip: I love the Kirkland brand of organic slow-roasted tomatoes found at Costco! They are totally dreamy on toast and in homemade pesto.
You need this one in your life. ‘Nough said.
Enjoy!

WOW! I want some toast now. :)
I’ve gotten really obsessed with toast….there is a place in SF called The Mill, which has coffee and pastries, and also an amazing baker and a TOAST MENU. It changed my life, really. (I’m legitimately considering a toast TATTOO!) Some of my favorite combos (most are avocado centric!)
-Avocado, Tahini, Sea Salt
-Avocado, Almond Butter, and Sea Salt
-This recipe from Heidi Swanson: 101cookbooks.com/archives/avocado-coconut-oil-tartine-recipe.html
-Coconut oil + tahini + sea salt
I’m loving the looks of the Vegan Delight and the Elvis! I’ve been sugar free for the last couple months and in a month will start up again. I miss dark chocolate the most! Couple of questions; what are people’s favorite vegan bread and how are you spreading the sunflower seed butter on The Elvis? Love your recipes! I making you favorite chili now ;)
This is a bakery bread (vegan + GF) from a bakery in London called Organic works…it`s lovely! Buckwheat, oat and flax bread.
I love homemade bread, that I can freeze and use as toast. My current favorite combination is avocado, yellow tomato (less acidic) and sunflower sprouts. Yummy.
BRILLIANT! I love toast too, but I’m definitely not this creative. I did a green dream sandwich last night though (garlic aioli, butter lettuce, avocado, sunflower sprouts, S&P – it was actually really good), but I need to try out these creations. I also need a Costco membership!!
Such a fun post with great options and inspiration, thanks!
Can’t wait to try all of these, especially the Elvis, thanks for sharing!

These are all beautiful, must try ”Elvis” one weekend.
I’ve never tried a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my life (I know Americans will like What??) and this combo has always sounded really weird to me, but I must admit you made me wanna try the raspberry-almond butter version!
I’ve just got on the avocado toast train… And I SO get it now! Only you could make pb&j look gourmet :) that jam is an incredible color.
These look so fantastic. You can take a simple idea and make me say, “Wow!” Good going. I like the hummus one best….dinner time soon.
Lovely photos and a lovely blog. I must have been under a log for all of these years and only discovered your blog 5 months ago when I decided I wanted to start blogging. I must confess though that I wasn’t much of a blog reader before. You’ve done awesome work! Congrats on the book as well. Now on to toast…my favourite way to have it is with tahini and jam (apricot or strawberry are particularly tasty with tahini, but any flavour will do). Also love any form of nut butter on toast. I also steam the bread instead of toasting it sometimes. Dry toasted baked flour can be hard on the body and steaming it adds back the moisture :-) Ciao from Italia!
I’m a new visitor of this blog and LOVE it. Just made your raspberry chia jam this am and slathered it on some muffins..yum… And now for lunch..whole wheat pita grown up AB & J .. I added some hemp to the top for crunch with the coconut.
Delishhhhhhhhhh
Thanks!!
Ooohhhh, the Elvis looks absolutely decadent! I’ll have to try that one.
I’m definitely trying the maple baked beans. These all look amazing!

ooh the Elvis looks amazing! The food photography is gorgeous!
Those look fantastic. I love Ezekiel toast with almond or peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce and cinnamon. Yum!
[ Smiles ] I am all for delicious vegan toasts.
Had the vegan delight toast for lunch yesterday and it was delicious! I used eggplant hummus and cherry tomatoes in addition to the avocado, hemp seeds, etc – I did not have roasted tomatoes (I’ll have to look for those!), but I am considering roasting my own tomatoes next time. Avocado toast is one of my favorite staple foods – this took it to a whole new level! I can’t wait to try the other toasts!
No toast roundup would be complete without mentioning almond butter and orange slices. So easy and so so delicious!
