Just like smoothies, I make toast just about every day of the week in some form or other. It’s one of my favourite quick and easy lunches or snacks. It’s hard to beat the comforting, warm, and crunchy experience that toast provides in just a few minutes. Plus, the flavour possibilities are endless! I’ve always preferred an open-faced sandwich to the traditional kind because I can load on the toppings as much as I please and if it ever gets out of control I just eat it with a knife and fork. Fancy, right? Since we’ll soon be relying on our toaster quite a bit during our kitchen reno in August, I thought it would be nice to round up some of my favourite toast combos of late – two savoury and two sweet. Be sure to share your favourite toast combos (or dream combos) below!
For my chia seed jam recipe, see this post. Note: You can use any kind of fruit you prefer. Some large fruit pieces (like frozen mango or strawberries) will benefit from a gentle mashing near the middle of cooking.

I shared this beauty on Instagram the other day and it had a great response which is why I thought a toast round-up might be a nice change of pace! This combo is probably my most made toast ever…I just can’t get enough of it. Tip: I love the Kirkland brand of organic slow-roasted tomatoes found at Costco! They are totally dreamy on toast and in homemade pesto.
You need this one in your life. ‘Nough said.
Enjoy!
Love your ideas and photos! I have a similar idea to your “Grown Up PB and J”…I call it “Sophisticated PB and J”… Just smoosh ripe berries with a fork to act as the jelly. Looks gorg and totally delish! I’m gonna make the “Elvis” ASAP!
I cannot believe you managed to put everything I love into one post: bread/toast, almond butter, avocado, hummus, beans, banana, and chocolate! Even though I had a satisfying meal just a few minutes ago, these pictures make my mouth water.
Especially that Vegan Delight…I might just go to the kitchen and make myself a follow-up meal.
Yummy! making my version of the elvis now by spreading pb, topping with banana, and drizzling with coconut oil + cocoa + maple syrup chocolate because I don’t have sun butter or chocolate (sad day, I know.)
OMG. i will be making these in the very near future. All the combinations looks amazing. I also live in Canada (yahooo for oh canada toast) i live in Barrie, its North of you. I have been reading your blog for about 5 years it was one of the first blogs i came across. I dont post often but i support you and appreciate everything you put into your blog.
absolutely love your blog! Fell in love with it right after reading the about me section. Ive been trying to make the switch and become a vegan for a while now and your blog might just have been the piece of the puzzle i was missing! Completely love the toast ideas as an avid lover of all things carby and delicious! I think the PB & J one is my favorite, cant beat a classic.
Wow i love it, Recipes for toast, a British girls dream, thanks Angela
Hi Angela, I love your blog! What’s your favorite type of bread to use? I usually just buy the healthiest looking whole wheat bread in the grocery store when I’m there.
People think I’m crazy when I tell them that plain toast and margarine is my all-time favourite meal. So adding anything to toast is a bonus. I used to try and balance Tomato, Cucumber, Onion, Avocado etc. on the bread while trying to get a bite without it all falling off onto the plate. I decided to chop everything up in a bowl instead and voila, it’s much easier to eat.
My recipe:
1/2 Avocado, Tomato, Red Onion, Cucumber, Banana Pepper Rings, Salt & Pepper
Mash the Avocado and spread onto hot toast. (no marg. needed)
Chop remaining ingredients in a bowl and pile on top. Sprinkle with S & P and enjoy. Yummy……
I’m going to try you Elvis Toast tomorrow morning. :)
What kind of bread do you use that is dairy free?
I just found this website by accident. What great posts, wonderful pictures. You do a fantastic job! Thank you, Amybeth Hurst, Portland, ME
Is that bread vegan? Cause I’m looking for a vegan bread recipe that’ll deliver light and fluffy bread.
Thanks very much for the quick beans recipe! Don’t make them as often as I’d like, can’t wait to try fast yet flavourful ones. Mmmm
I just made the “Baked Beans” and they’re so yummy! Can’t wait to try them on toast.
Thanks so much!
I love the Elvis toast, been eating it for breakfast this week, so good!
What kind of bread are you using that is vegan?
Hi Kim, My current fave bread is GF/vegan bread by Thornbury Bakery in Ontario. It’s available at Organic Garage grocery store locally.
Made the hummus, avocado and tomato toast for the husband today, he loved it! Looking forward to trying it myself soon.
Glad it was a hit! :)
