Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!
And quite chilly this morning too.
Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!
It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).
Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…
We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.
He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)
We are absolutely in love with it:
It’s incredibly soft and comfy…
and will be great for entertaining!
…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…
We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.
The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:
and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.
We also tried here:
and it looked even more odd…
So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????
I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.
And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?
We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

Ok, now that this home reno stuff is out of my system, I promise to get back to my health posts and hot topics!!!!

I would sell the couch and use the money to buy some awesome accent lamps and pillows for the room!
I would love the seamist color!
Im totally into the earth tones!
What a score on the couches. They are so comfy looking and I don’t blame you, I am all for going used when I can! :D
I would leave them back to back for the Christmas party and then maybe put them on Craigslist?
I would choose the Sagist color. I like that pukey-green color. Its my favorite!!!
What a great couch!
I think I saw someone else suggest that you put your couch on Craigslist – great idea!
I agree with the other reader definitly sell it on craigslist after Christmas. I would love the seamist(light green) yoga mat. My mat has become worn out in some places from the frequent use.
Sell or trade your couch on craigslist for a new coffee table.
I would choose the violet yoga mat.
Love your blog!
I would either try putting the couch in a non-family room room, or putting on Craig’s List. Or — perhaps see if a charity can take it? You’d get a tax write off, plus your couch would be used for a great cause! Win, win! :)
If I could choose a yoga mat, I’d like the Ocean mat.
I would definitely stick that brown couch in a spare room/office. It’s always great to have room for guests to crash!
I am so in need of a new yoga mat! The seamist looks nice and calming…very zen!
There are a few things you could do with your couch:
* Possibly donate it
* Put it in your office, if there’s room
* Make a sitting area in your bedroom or the dining room. We did this in our dining room (couch, rug, small table, lamp) and it has actually made the room much nicer and cozier.
I would choose the violet color if I were lucky enough to win!!
What a great find with your sofa! We have a family resource center here to help people who have no furniture. They are always looking for furniture in good repair. I’m sure your community has something similar…
I would love to try the yoga mat in Violet! It is beautiful and my old mat is getting smelly! I am new to your blog and love the variety! Never know what I’ll find here!
I think building a platform behind your new couch would be ideal :) That way you can have stadium seating and host sports parties too. Ooh, you could get a projector and then it’ll be like your own personal movie theater. Ok, I’m obviously channeling the university student in me as well. Oh, the good ol’ days. As for MY FIRST MAT (if I win!) I would choose Seamist. I love green. It makes me think of nice weather and springtime. Great giveaway!
I would probably leave the couches back to back, or I would swap out the chase with the old couch and perhaps put the chase in a corner somewhere or near the fireplace to cozy up and read by.
I would LOVE a new yoga mat and I’d totally choose violet- so pretty!!
LOVE your blog!!
From Craigslist it came and to Craigslist it shall return!
Such pretty colors! I would pick the seamist, though.
Your new couch is huge and looks so comfy! Perfect for your living room.
As for the old one you have tons of options. Do you have an outdoor patio area that is covered? If so you could put it out there. It would be so much more comfortable than most outdoor chairs that they sell.
If I won the mat I would go for violet. It is relaxing, which is what yoga is too me :)
I love that couch! It totally finishes that room – perfect fit.
As for me, I’d pay it forward – sell on Craigslist and give someone else the sofa they’ve always wanted for a steal! Before Craigslist even existed, I once posted my loveseat and sofa in the classifieds and a young woman about to get her first apartment after college came to see it with her parents. She was SOOOOO excited when she saw them – they were exactly what she hoped to find and in her budget! Her parents looked so proud of her, too. It was awesome and so rewarding to be part of that moment.
As for the yoga mat – hey, I’m a coastal girl stuck living in the middle of the country – it’s gotta be Ocean, baby!
Awesome couch find! I think your original brown couch should find a separate home b/c the new one looks fantastic on its own. Maybe in a bedroom as a reading area? Office?
I would definitely choose the sea mist yoga mat b/c it’s calming.
send it on! post the extra couch back on craigslist.
I would choose the solar color.
I love the new couch. As for your old one, is there an extra bedroom that it could go in, or maybe the office? Otherwise, I guess you could “pay it forward” and put it on craiglist. I would love the lavender color.
I’d sell the couch on craigslist, and I would love the infinity (black) yoga mat!
I’d either sell the couch on Craiglist or donate it to people in need!
I’d love the “ocean” color!
I keep hearing about awesome things on craigslist but have not taken the plunge to buy or sell anything yet.
I need a yoga mat and would love the blue one to help me relax!
