This morning I had a little something-something I like to call swamp water.
This, my friends, is where the Green Monsters live.
Today I tried the Amazing Grass, Amazing Meal Pomegranate Mango Infusion!
I mixed it with almost 2 cups of water and H2O.
And the result was…well, swamp water! :D
However, if you go in with the mindset (like I did) that it is going to taste like swamp water, you will be pleasantly surprised!!
In just 1 serving, this drink packs 6 grams of fibre and 10 grams of protein and a slew of vitamins and minerals. Not bad for just 110 calories!
It is definitely not to be used as a meal replacement, but more of a meal supplement or an energizing pre workout snack! If I was going to use it as a pre workout snack I would probably have some more carbs to go with it since there are only 13 grams of carbs per pack.
It had a light mango flavour which I really liked. The only snag? The bottom of the drink gets very ‘swampy’! I had to stir mine several times and it was quite thick near the end which I wasn’t a fan of. I still drank it like a champ though! :)
I also had Spelt cereal, soy yogurt, walnuts, cranberries, coconut, and agave syrup to go with the swamp water:
And this apple and Almond Butter:
It was a nice change up for breakfast today! My taste buds had a PARTY and everything in the kitchen was invited! lol.
My workout yesterday was done while watching GAME 7!! I am so glad my Crosby won. What? There are other members on the team? ;) As a fellow Maritimer, he had my heart from day one. *swoon* ;) Even if he was injured…
The workout:
- Duration: 1 hour
- Treadmill hill walking (Speed 4.4 mph, incline 10% for first 45 mins, then last 15 mins cool down)
- Max heart rate: 158 bpm
- Avg heart rate: 142 bpm
- Distance: 4.30 miles
This was the same workout as I was doing while visiting my family last week, however my heart rate was MUCH lower tonight as compared to when using my mom’s treadmill. I am wondering if her 10% incline grade is higher than my 10% grade (they are different brands)? Her treadmill only goes up to 10% while mine goes up to 15% so I am wondering if hers is just higher. Hmmm…at any rate it was a good workout! :) Another possibility is that my HR was higher while at my mom’s because she lives at a higher altitude!
I braked at every mile or so and got some water and watched some hockey. A true Canadian hockey lover I am! :)
As you may have noticed, I did not get in my planned run this week, but instead did a treadmill workout. The weather wasn’t cooperating Wednesday and then yesterday I couldn’t go far due to S4AC. It’s all good though! I feel like I am in good cardiovascular shape. I will feel nice and rested going into the run! I MAY do a couple very easy miles today, but I’ll have to see! :)
I can’t believe I am racing tomorrow!!! I am getting nervous! I am such a competitive person (with myself) that I am a bit afraid I will push myself too hard. I just have to remember to enjoy it and not push myself too much too soon!
For all of you who have done races before- let’s hear your words of wisdom! Share with me your tips, tricks, and what to look out for.
I know the bib goes on the front, so at least that is a start! haha. :D I’m a bit worried about the chip and where and how to put it on!! eeek.
1. We raised OVER $3,000 for charity!!! HOLY MOLY I am just thrilled! Yes, I am going to have a big goofy grin plastered on my face the entire 10k!!! :D You guys are rockstars!! I can’t wait to finish my race tank tonight and iron on the number!
2. Last night Eric, my MIL, and I finished packaging my bars! Thank goodness they helped me or I would still be doing them today! I brought us all a drink to make it a bit more fun. muhaha. ;)
3. Glo Bakery and Oh She Glows made it on the race website! Check out my ad + blurb in the bottom right hand corner of the Twenty Valley race page!
4. Eric and I are off to visit my Sis and family for lunch! Eric is on call this weekend so that means that I can blog on the 2-hour drive home. Yippee!
Catch you later alligators! :) Enjoy your Saturday!
How exciting..a 10k. I had never ran a race before in my WHOLE life and I started with a 10km. I hadn’t run more than 5km in my whole life. I had lost 120lbs by that time and every 1km was 12 pounds for me. That worked for me. It’s 1km…ten times. Break it down into manageable pieces and tell yourself that quitting isn’t an option.
Good luck and congrats on all of your fundraising. Enjoy the day and know that you’re helping to save lives.
LOL at swamp water!
My race day advice is Nothing New on Race Day! No new food, no new clothes (although you’ve got your new shirt, hopefully you’ve worn it at least once before and know it’s not going to rub you the wrong way??)
Also, whenever I feel a twinge of race jitters, I just say to myself “this like is like any other run on any random day” and just RUN.
Congrats on the amazing fund raising! Good luck tomorrow, can’t wait to read all about it! :D
I try to treat races as just any other run! I strap on my ipod, get in the zone, and try my best to not let other runners influence my pace. It’s really common to get excited and start out wayyyy too fast, so just remember you’ve got 6 miles and be smart about it! Also, HAVE FUN!! It’ll fly by and you’ll want to remember it!
Good luck Angela! You’ll do just fine, if you take the first mile nice and relaxed to see how you feel. Trust me, you’ll want to start out a little slower than all the other runners zipping by, esp. since you’ve been injured and haven’t run 6 miles in awhile. Take that first mile relaxed, see how you feel at the first mile mark, and then pick it up a little if you can! :)
They should have directions on the envelope the chip comes in. Most times, the chip has holes that you can put your shoelaces through. Sometimes it comes with a little twisty-tie that you can tie tightly to your shoelaces. Just makes sure it’s not bopping around and won’t fall off.
And don’t eat anything crazy the morning of the race! Stick to your usual routine, if even a little less if you’re running EARLY in the morning. You don’t want to feel your breakfast later on or get a cramp.
congrats on making your goal! that’s awesome.
have a fun day with your family – sounds like a fun time :)
Good luck this weekend! I know you will do great!

Best of luck in your race darling! I am hardly one to hand out running wisdom but I will say this… trust yourself, you’re ready, and you’re going to do amazingly. Can’t wait to hear all about it :)
Good luck in your race–I’m sure it’ll go AWESOME! Love your breakfast. YUM!

I agree with the other comments: take the first mile easy! You already have a pretty good idea of the mile times you’ve been running so knock it down a few seconds and feel out your muscles. I’ve always had a tough time convincing myself to run a slow 1st mile, but then I think about how cool it would be to put up negative splits (mile/km times that are faster each time) and that usually helps a bit!
Have the same meal and same routine as you always do, make sure your ipod is charged (made that mistake once!), double knot your shoes and get a kiss from Eric for good luck :)
As far as the chip goes, I’m not sure what kind you’ll be using, but if it goes through the shoe laces, I like to attach mine further down the length of my shoe so it’s not messing up the bow or flopping around. Just look around at other racers when you get there and I’m sure someone can help you – Ive found runners are so friendly!
Have a great pre-race day and an awesome time tomorrow.
I’m totally pumped Crosby won too!! (Penguins who? :P )
I ran my first ever race last month. My biggest advise is to not let your excitement get the better of you and start sprinting right away. I mean, it’s good to let your nerves carry you through, but you also don’t want to tucker yourself out. Oh! And have fun!! I was in a great crowd of people and chatted away with them the whole time :)
Do you hold onto the siderails when you are walking at that incline and speed on the treadmill? Thanks
Wow so many great tips! Thanks!
Another question- how long does it usually take to cross the start line? Does my time start when I cross the line? There are 1,300 runners.
Megam- I don’t hold onto the siderails…If I find that I want to, I usually decrease the intensity for a bit until the feeling goes away :)
Love the swamp water! Good luck on the run tomorrow and great job on raising so much money! Yay for fellow maritimers :)
Congrats with raising so much for charity! Good job :)
I’ve heard about the high altitude thing and it makes me wonder because New Mexico is at a very high elevation! Maybe that’s why I can’t run as well as other people ;) I’ll just keep telling myself that! haha. What are the ingredients in that yogurt? I’ve never seen it before!
Get everything ready TONIGHT – your shoes, shirt + shorts, race number, watch, extra hair ties, anything you might need. Lay it out and have it ready so tomorrow you can just get up and go.
And have fun and good luck!!
Hi Angela. Do yo have a tracking chip for your shoe? The races I’ve done use tracking chips, so your time actually starts when you cross the starting line, not when the initial race starts.
How long it takes to get to the starting line TOTALLY depends on the race, the way the race is organized, etc. When I did a marathon, there were so many people that it probably took 30 minutes to cross the start line. But when I ran my last 1/2 marathon, it only took maybe 5 minutes because there were fewer people and we were divided into corrals by times. In any case, your time shouldn’t start until you actually start.
And I agree with everyone else–do nothing different tomorrow! Eat the same breakfast you usually eat before running, wear the same socks, etc. And then, just have fun! And kick some ass!
OH!!! Your treadmill workout is super impressive! WOW!!
Oh goodness, that does not look good at all! Ick!
Can’t wait to read more race tips. I’ll need them in three weeks!
YAY for hockey! That’s right… I’m a hockey fan living in Florida.
