Rock What Your Mama Gave You

April 21, 2010

Hey there!

Just when I thought I couldn’t be MORE grossed out by public pools you guys have to scare me more! Oh man. It will seriously be like Fear Factor when I stick my toe into that water…

I hope you are having a good Wednesday. :) Today has been a busy one…another training day, orders completed, and lots of business stuff going on. Git er done…!

Lunch consisted of leftovers…

IMG_4736

I simply took my lentil Neat Sauce out of the freezer and it thawed in the fridge overnight.

My fridge has certainly been working for me overnight lately…from Vegan Overnight Oats to de-thawing the next day’s food. ;)

This portion is about 2 cups worth, so I split it into 2 lunches.

IMG_4573

With some discounted organic celery- which might I add, still has a lot of life left in it!

IMG_4728

I actually got up and grabbed the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus for a dip. :) Celery is just…plain on its’ own.

Dessert- Dried organic apricots. One of my all time favourite snacks…

IMG_4742

Dinner was leftovers from last night’s Feelin’ Good Stew. I just love this stew! I was looking forward to it all day.

IMG_4831

I love the addition of the quinoa in this stew…I’m so glad I threw it in on a whim! It really bulked it up.

IMG_4830

Dessert was a tablespoon of organic dark chocolate chips and 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil melted in the micro.

Random yet blissful.

Eric and I just got back from a visit to a sports store where I tried on 1 piece swimsuits (for triathlon training) and padded bike shorts. I left feeling like a 7 year old with a diaper issue. Hopefully I have more luck at the next store!

I really need to get used to the idea of wearing a 1 piece swimsuit again. I actually laughed when I tried one on and looked in the mirror. Seven year old or a grown woman, I couldn’t be sure…

Tonight’s question- Do you own a swimsuit and if so, what kind(s) do you rock? 1 piece, bikini, tankini, thong, bikini, speedo…? ;)

Any suggestions for a killer training swimsuit?

My best tip for swimsuit confidence is to rock what your mama gave you. No one else has YOUR unique body so go show it off and strut your stuff. Be proud of who you are and how hard you work each day to keep yourself healthy and fit.

On that note, I’m going to pass out on the couch…it has been a long day! Can’t wait to snuggle my man and watch some Marriage Ref (Tom Papa we love u!).

Have a great night. :)

Wow, there are already tons of comments! I feel like anything I say has already been said. But I’ll give it a go anyway!

Well first of all, I wear a one piece or tank-ini. My reason is mostly because I only want my husband checking me out!! I am confident but I don’t want or need any extra eyes or attention on me. I know my husband appreciates it and besides, I know I am beautiful no matter how much skin I am showing!

My tips to bathing suit confidence really apply all the time! First, i’d say think of 5 things you are thankful for. Then think of 5 amazing things your body does for you. Then think of 5 kind and healthy things you have done for your body! Then SMILE, do a fun little dance, and rock what yo mama gave you!!

My suits: I own a huge variety of swim suits. I have one piece training/racing suits, I have “drag suits” which are old, ratty swim suits I use to create extra drag when training. I also have bikini’s and tankini’s for hanging out pool or lakeside.

Swim suit confidence tip: don’t worry about other people. The majority of them are too busy worrying about themselves to notice you anyway.

Training suits: Most people go for thin straps on a training suit because they can reduce chafing, but I’ve always preferred thicker straps because they don’t dig into my shoulders as much. TYR has always been my favorite brand of racing suit. They’re usually slightly cheaper than Speedo, and I think they hold up better.

Every once in a while you find that bathing suit that really is so wonderful, you fondly remember it years later. But in the meantime, pick one that feels comfortable and just enjoy the place where you’re wearing it (beach, ocean, pool). Chances are no one will really notice unless it’s super cute and then they’ll want to know where you bought it!

I’m always amazed when I buy a bathing suit and wear it that I don’t see anyone else on the beach with the same suit.

I own a couple ancient bikini’s for fun swimming (although it is so time for a new suit, I think I’m gonna go get one this weekend since I have a pool party to go to on Sunday) and I own a speedo for my workouts.
I think I tweeted this to you, but my workout buddy (who got me into swimming) gave me a link to a site where you can get really discounted swimwear. (Not sure if it will work with shipping to Canada though…) http://www.swimoutlet.com/
I kind of wish I’d gone with a TYR instead of a Speedo b/c I like the smaller back opening that TYR’s seem to have, but I like my speedo well enough (especially since I got it for $30!) it’s bright purple and my shoulders look pretty awesome in it.
FYI competitive swim suits are super super tight, but they loosen up once you get in the pool- be prepared to have a hard time getting the suit on though!
As for swimsuit confidence, I find that getting excited for the whole summer thing- cute towel, cute beach bag, flip flops (which are a way of life down South!), fun hats, big sunglasses, cute coverups, gets me more excited about my swimsuit b/c it’s a part of the fun instead of a big deal to be worried about. And I remind myself that no one looks like people in magazine when they are wearing a swimsuit, which makes me feel better about how I look. :)

Hi! This is my first post although I’ve been a long-time reader :)

I used to swim in high school and just bought another suit to start swimming in our local free pool (cheap suit tip – find your size then go to the website to find the clearance suits in the same brand you’re looking at!).

One pieces, especially “racing” suits (whether you’re racing or not) are such a different cut than all others! I honestly just think it’s an adjustment period – as you start swimming more you’ll adjust and realize everyone else is wearing them too! Good luck!

To feel my sexiest in a bathing suit, i’ll put on upbeat music and model them for my boyfriend. Just the look in his eyes tells me that I look sexy;)

my best swimsuit confidence tip: work out! when you appreciate your body for what it can do instead of just what it looks like, you can be more confident putting it out there!

My best swimsuit confidence tip:

Look in the mirror and tell yourself all the things you LOVE about your body! Pay no attention to what you think may be a flaw….it’s not a flaw, it’s a character builder!

My best tip is to think about what your body can DO rather than what it looks like (this is kind of cliche, but it works for me!)

Also, when I get icky feelings about the way I look, I try and find just one part of my body that I REALLY like, and just focus on that among all the negativity. Sometimes it’s innocent like my dainty hands, and sometimes it’s a little more naughty, like how my chest fills out a swimsuit! :)

My tip is to find a suit that you feel comfortable in, that’s in your favorite color. That way, you’ll always feel your best when you put it on!

Definitely be comfortable, not constricted, and wear it with a smile! And I prefer the TYR suits for training.

For Swim Suit Confidence: Smile, stand up straight, and remember that you are your own worst critic. Most people are pretty self absorbed and are worrying about themselves, not you.

My tip to feeling confident is to remember the AMAZING things your body has done for you. Why wouldn’t I be confident of a body that gave birth, practices yoga, runs, and hikes?

No tips for a suit, I am soooo not a swimmer!

Glance at the mirror once to make sure it’s not on backwards and be off! This is what i tell all of my clients :) Also to know that the fact that they show concern for staying fit is a great step that is miles above some others who they will find on the beach!

If you start doubting yourself or ‘fat talking’, just think of what your body has accomplished for you.. whether it be a marathon, childbirth or whatever! Our bodies are truly amazing!

My best advice: everything in context makes it acceptable! As long as whatever you’re wearing will help you do what you’ve set out to do (in this case, training!) then you don’t have to worry so much about what you look like. Having the confidence that I can train properly gives me the confidence to wear it, and get busy sweating from the work out, not over the small stuff!

I agree – just go with it! A friend of mine gave me some good advice: If others don’t want to look at it, they won’t! So don’t be embarrassed of that butt/belly/whatever. Just have fun! :)

My best tip for swimsuit confidence is to consistantly eat the freshest healthiest meals I can so that when it comes time to put the suit on I know I have done every thing I can to rock that thing!
