My ‘workout’ yesterday lasted 9 hours. A non-formal workout, but a workout none the less!
Unfortunately, fate did not have Avatar in our future last night. The only non sold out show was at 10:50pm. Seeing as the IMAX theatre is a 45 min. drive from us, we didn’t feel like getting home at 3am so we didn’t go.
We ended up just relaxing with a few friends and watching Conan’s last episode of Late Night- (sniff, sniff). Can I just say that man has Class, with a capitol C?!
I created my 4th Baked Breakfast cake experiment this morning.
My previous Baked Breakfast Cakes:
Refreshing Orange-Mint Baked Breakfast Cake
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup lightly toasted hazelnuts (filberts)
- 1/4 cup ground almonds
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (not instant)
- 3/4 cup sweetened applesauce (or unsweetened + 1 T sweetener below)
- 2 t pure vanilla extract
- 4 fresh mint leaves
- 1 Tbsp agave nectar or maple syrup
- Pinch fine sea salt
- 1 T chia seeds (optional)
- 1 and 1/4 cups unsweetened almond, soy, rice, hemp milk
- 1/4 t raw maca powder (optional)
- 1 orange, peeled and sliced into chunks

Directions: Preheat oven to 350F. Grease three small oven safe dishes. Throw all ingredients except the orange into the blender and blend until smooth. Evenly distribute the batter into the dishes and then garnish with orange chunks. Pop in the oven for about 35 minutes at 350F or until golden brown. You can refrigerate for 4 days and they apparently freeze well too!

You know what goes well with orange?

I have some fun news- I am applying to the Oakville Organic Farmer’s Market this Summer! I spoke with the chair of the board yesterday and she thinks my Glo Bars would be a perfect fit for the market. This farmer’s market is amazing– all vendors must be organic, sustainable, use non-GMO products, etc. Everyone knows the farmer’s on a first name basis! It is just the market I have been looking for!!!
Should I be accepted I will need to move forward quite quickly with purchasing a tent, table, hiring help, and obtaining signage/marketing materials. It would be great to have a location for my customers in the GTA to purchase the bars and I would love to meet my customers in person too. It would be a fun change of pace!
Do you have a Farmer’s Market in your town? What’s it like?
I have another full day of baking ahead of me. I need to get caught up on the 1600+ Glo Bars that I sold last week. I don’t see a day off in my future for a while!

We have a great farmers market spring-fall in our small town, they block off a side street just off main street and its great for getting local produce and other products from local farms.

I loved Conan’s last ep too… I feel kind of guilty, I used to watch all the time when he was on late night (well i’d dvr it…) but I fell out of the habit. I forgot how much he made me laugh! So, I look forward to his return in the fall, where ever that may be.
We have a TON of farmers markets in my area. Every day of the weekend there are at least a handful in different areas of the city. I have my fav’s and hit them up on a bi-weekly basis. I wish you could set up a stand out west! I’d be there!

Good luck with the farmer’s market. I *LOVE* ours. There’s one somewhere 6 days a week. All sorts of good fruits, veggies, cheese, meats, wine, bread, jam…helps to be in So. Cal.
I went back to read your “I Quit” post. LOVED it. About 1.5 years ago I did the same. I stayed in the same industry. But I got new bosses who basically told me that they “didn’t believe in part time work” and that I had to go full time – because what if “all the parents wanted to work part time”. Um, you mean, both of the moms (all two of us). And yep, we were both part time. Apparently, she didn’t count.
So, I quit, found someone who supported my working part time (I’m back to full time, which is okay, but now they want overtime, to which I say “no”.) I’m okay with doing a little extra – at work now, in fact, but I will be making up for it by coming in late the rest of the week.
My best friend from my old company is pregnant and is worried about getting part time. I told her “ask. It’s all you can do. They probably will say no. But you can quit.” She worries about quitting (can she get back in, how will her husband feel, etc.) I just told her that working full time with a baby sucks (did it for 17 months), and she wouldn’t regret quitting – if her two choices are work full time and quit…
Congrats on the Farmer’s Market. So exciting! I have a question about your baked breakfast cakes. I am a 0%-effort-on-weekday-mornings gal, but I also don’t like to eat until I get to the office. Do you think I could bake up a couple in muffin tins (or ramekins or whathaveyou)and bring them to work in a tupperware and the heat in a microwave or eat cold(ish)? I made them once, and I’m not sure if they turned out “right”, but they were good. And so healthy!

Hope you get the spot! Baton Rouge has a really nice farmer’s market on Saturday mornings, but I never make it out there. I’m hoping to make more of an effort this spring.

our farmer’s market here in boulder is great! tons of fresh organic awesome food, live entertainment, and great restaurants! perfect in the summers :)

I love our Farmer’s MArket here. It’s really big for the size of the city (150,000) and takes up 4 or 5 blocks. I love it!!
I go to a great farmer’s market on Sundays! It took a while for the farmers to stop asking me if I was visiting or on holiday here in Trinidad, but after a year we all know each other–and since I come in late in the day, they always give me special deals and set aside the stuff that sells out.
How awesome would it be to have your own stall!!! I’m sure you’ll mobilize super-fast if it happens :-)
I think you would be a great fit for that market! It is in a great location, lots of pedestrian traffic. We try to get there most weekends in the summer. It is still a pretty small market, so everyone that comes would see your stand, for sure!
