Last night I awoke to a dentist drilling my teeth!!!!!!
In reality, I woke up to my husband drilling in the basement. He has been doing renos all weekend and apparently he thought it was a good idea to drill and hammer at 11:30pm at night!? Then once he came up to the room I couldn’t fall asleep until 12:30, so my goal of 5:45am wake-up was shot. I did manage to get up around 6:30 though so all was not lost. :)
You know what I discovered?

I love RAW Breakfast Cakes (see here for Baked Breakfast Cake)
Just like cake batter…

I had this mini Raw Breakfast Cake with my breakfast:

This morning’s breakfast featured a new Sherriff in town:

Can you believe this was my first time ever trying cashew butter?!?!?
Oh dear me.

Cashew butter tastes like a DREAM. Rich, creamy, and subtly sweet.
It paired well with this delicious cranberry jam that Chelsea sent me!

Pure heaven…
What is your favourite and least favourite (nut) butter?
I have tried the following:
- Peanut
- Almond
- Cashew
- Pumpkin Seed
- Barney Butter (yes, it deserves its’ own class!!!!!)
- Apple butter (Not a nut butter but oh well!)
I don’t know what it was, but I strongly disliked the pumpkin seed butter!!! Totally not what I was expecting. My favourite hands down was CRACKbutter…otherwise known as…Barney Butter. Ohhhh Emmmm Geeeee, When Bree sent me a bunch of it, I finished them in lightening speed.
I am eager to try out new kinds of butters. What should my next one be?
I think it might be coconut butter. I have been dying to try it!
This morning and most of the afternoon is a shipping day for me. I have over 400 Glo Bars shipping out today. I do all my shipping labels myself (I have a corporate account with Canada Post) as it saves my customers 8% off shipping. I also need to squeeze in a workout and start baking orders once my shipping is done.
It has been raining the past two days! It is currently 6C/43F right now…such a weird winter we are having!

Have a wonderful Moan-day! ;)

Ahh, I haven’t tried cashew butter! Which, doesn’t make much sense because it’s my favorite nut :P I usually stick with peanut butter and almond butter. Over the summer I was on a mad hunt for macadamia nut butter (because I had a brief obsession with macadamia nuts, haha) and I actually FOUND IT! I was so disappointed, though :( It was okay. The flavor was good but it was really runny – almost watery. And it was super expensive for a pretty small jar. Oh well, you win some you lose some! :)
I LOVE macadamia nutbutter and us it on salads as a dressing! SO good!
I don’t like pumpkin seed butter, but I really don’t like almond butter. Actually I don’t like any other nut butters besides peanut butter! Alot of them just aren’t sweet enough for me. :)
i’m with Jessica – I like the sweetness of peanut butter. i could see almond butter growing on me though. if only it was as cheap as peanut butter :)
I just got sent a container of coconut peanut butter. It’s actually pretty good (but still not quite sweet enough for me) – i think you would like it though.
mmm sounds amazing!
ok… i’m blaming my silly question on the fact that maybe i’m just not awake yet…
for the raw breakfast cake did you just leave your ‘batter’ in the fridge overnight and eat it this morning before you would normally bake it?
it looks deeelish. :)
You got it…just left it in the fridge and instead of baking, I just tried it raw and discovered it was fabulous.
Mmmm, that butter sounds yummy!!! I think I’ll have to give it a try.
It’s not a nut butter, but have you tried apple butter?
oops forgot! Will add to list :)
:) Did you like it?
yes it is wonderful. I never buy it for some reason though!
Sounds like I’ll have to give that one a try as well!!
Macadamia Nut butter is quite divine. My kiddos LOVE it. I always send almond butter sandwiches in their lunches, since peanuts/peanut products are banned from their school. It’s a very close second to macadamia nut butter.
macadamia nut butter!! sooooooo good, very rich(even more so than most nut butters) though. you really have to stir it a lot though before eating it, (i’m guessing because of its high fat content there is more oil separating than in most other nut butters) to get a good consistency. i also love cashew butter, raw crunchy almond butter from TJ’S(like this better than Barney Butter), PB(obvs, preferably crunchy). oh! and coconut butter! amazing.but i gues that couts as more of an oil… on my list to try: pine nut butter, soy nut butter, sunflower seed butter.
hope you have a good day and good luck with all the shipping/baking! i can’t wait until my X’s and Glo’s box arrives!!!!!!!
Peanut butter upsets my tummy. Cashew butter is delicious but a bit sweet. ALmond butter is my favorite!
Have a great day!
I absolutely LOVE your raw cake batter. I made your baked cake batter last week, but ended up eating it cold straight from the fridge… SO good!! :)
I love peanut butter, and Nutella…does that count?
Mmmmm…I LOVE cashew butter!
Have you ever tried pecan butter? It’s a great one!
Have a lovely day, lovely lady!
In the last two years I have become seriously addicted to peanut butter. I think it’s because it’s such a good fuel for muscles and gives you heaps of energy without weighing you down. I also started buying the PB with no crap in it and even my Jif raised American husband comments on how good it tastes. I have an unopened jar of almond butter sitting in the cupboard, so need to start using that again. I haven’t tried cashew or macadamia, but they both sound yummy! For some of them it’s kind of like dark chocolate – you don’t need a lot of it to satisfy a craving.
Your weather sounds like our weather today – not mittens or hats . . .yay!!! :)
Breakfast cake raw is such a good idea!! Who doesn’t love cake batter?!
Ok and Barney Butter for SURE deserves it’s own category. I’m with you there. That stuff is amazing. Oats in a (Barney Butter) jar is the best thing EVER. Yum..
I’ve never had cashew butter before either.. sounds good! I also want to try coconut butter, i’ve seen that around.
I haven’t tried cashew butter but honestly I’m not a huge fan of cashew as far an nuts go (walnuts either).
The weather here is crazy too! A few days ago it was 15F in the morning, this morning it’s 52F!!!
I’ve been meaning to pick up a jar of cashew butter. I love cashews so it’s got to be good! Barney butter is good. I also like Crazy Richard’s peanut butter. Coconut butter?! Haven’t seen that one :)
I’ve never tried cashew butter — normally, I stick to peanut or almond butter. Yum. Haven’t tried the breakfast cakes yet, either, but need to hop on that bandwagon asap. ;)
I love my organic/natural MaraNatha peanut butter so much I’m afraid to spend the money on other nut butters!! Like almond butter! I’ve heard many good things and really want to try it, but can I really “cheat” on my peanut butter? :P
I agree with the weird weather! I’m in Nova Scotia and the weather is springing from -12 one day, and now they’re calling for things like +7 this week! It’s nuts! (Hahahahaha, see that joke?) Have a great day!
I used to be a peanut butter addict but after learning of the health benefits of almond butter I converted. I eat almond butter almost every day now!. For a treat, I put honey on it. You should try sunflower seed butter – also very good! As for coconut butter/oil, I’ve never used it as a “butter” but I use it in baking and cooking. It’s great for stirfy.
I LOVE sunflower seed butter – yum :) I like coconut butter (or oil), to – I use to make dairy free chocolate…
Sunbutter is my new favourite thing. I think I even like it more than my trusty almond butter.
I love cashew butter, especially in a stirfry. I highly recommend making cashew butter and turning it into a pad thai-like sauce to mix with fresh veggies and some baked tofu. With or without some noodles, it’s divine!
Brilliant idea, thats tonight sorted for me, thank you!
Good morning Angela- its a grey, dank day here in England too ;( By far my favourite nut butter so far is pistacio!! I can’t buy it over here, so I make it myself. I also love raw tahini, but its hit and miss with the jar- sometimes lovely, sometimes just a bit too bitter for me. Why don’t you try walnut butter? Its a very healthy nut, and you can always stir in coffee essence for a ‘coffee cake’ or chocolate for a mocha taste. I was quite disappointed by peanut butter, one of the last I tried- I think I thought since everyone else likes it, I would. Nope, I’ve just got expensive tastes! Btw, do you think you will ever be offering international shipping?!!
Ooops, I forgot, I bet your breakfast cake would taste lovely with ground chufa nuts- I think I’ll try it that way! ;)
I’d love to try cashew butter. I think it was Lara [Thinspired] who told me it was wonderful, light and creamy. I’ve only eaten almond and peanut butter. I’ve always wanted to try pumpkin butter as well… so many nut butters, so little time!
Pistachio butter sounds like it would be good. And I second that on Barney Butter… I cannot imagine having a jar of it in the house. I would eat the entire thing in 2 seconds flat. It’s kinda like Mary’s Crack to me in that way ;-)
Thanks for sharing about the nut butters. I have not been very adventurous in trying them out.
I haven’t tried cashew butter or even Barney Butter! But my favorite is Trader Joe’s crunchy peanut butter!
I was one of those weirdos in elementary school whose mom would buy all sorts of “natural” foods before they were cool. So, while my friends had Skippy and grape jelly, I had cashew butter and apricot preserves. My favorite though, to this day, is good old natural peanut butter from one of those grinders at the grocery store.
Check out my giveaway on my last post to enter to win a $50 shopping spree from iHerb!
I’ve also been dying to try coconut butter! I’d say my favorite is almond butter. Sunflower seed butter is a close second!
Hi, I’m allergic to nuts and peanuts, so I go with soy nut butter. Someone mentionned sunflower seed butter…I might try that next time!
Sunflower seed butter is wonderful (I’m sensitive to nuts also)!
Ive always stuck to almond butter but Ive been wanting to make my own hazelnut butter! and ive never tried coconut butter either but very curious about it so let us know how it goes!
I made my own hazelnut butter and it was sooo good!
coconut butter sounds fabulous. My boyfriend is allergic to all types of nuts, and I have yet to find him any kind of butter. This coconut butter seems like such a fabulous idea.
Thien an
I grew up eating peanut butter, so I love it …but it doesn’t agree with me.
SUN BUTTER is AMAZING… the most similar nut butter to peanut butter.
I also had a “pomme buerre sale” (apple sauce with butter and salt) spread in france this past summer that was amaaaazing.
I actually am not a fan of almond butter but I looove barney butter so I have to agree that it deserves it’s own class. My other favorite is Nutella!! Hey, it counts ;) it’s made from hazelnuts afterall.
I just bought almond butter for the first time and I think it will take some getting used to. Maybe the barney butter will be more my style.
I love barney butter! But I cannot find it anywhere near me..and the samples I ordered were finished, as you said, in lightning speed !
I’d say sunflower seed butter (sun butter) is right in between almond butter and peanut butter in terms of taste. Almond butter with honey mixed in the jar is incredible- though I guess as a vegan that’s not quite an option ;)
PB2, powdered peanut butter, is absolutely fantastic in Green Monsters- it gives a peanut butter taste in a small and concentrated amount. Also, two tablespoons is only about 50 calories.
I like pear butter! Also, not a nut butter…
Pear butter? Mmmmm..I wonder if they have that here in Canada.
That’s it!!! I’m moving to Canada!
I’m a huge fan of peanut butter going way back! But it’s so expensive over here (France). My hunt for Almond butter (which I have never tried, but I’m very curious about) has been going on for two weeks now, to no avail.
So all this talk of cashew butter, has me totally flustered! Cashews are my fave!
Oh I forgot… I tried Free-Nut butter in Australia, not too bad. It’s the Nut free alternative for people with Allergies… poor things.
Natasha, if you can’t find it elsewhere, you could try this country, I’m sure they deliver over the border into France… if you scroll down to the bottom, you’ll find Artisana almond butter ;)
http://www.keimling.eu/.cms/59
Cashew butter is SO GOOD! I think my current favorite is sunflower seed butter though.
I love cashew butter too! My favorite nut butter is… readdy? Macarona almond butter with vanilla bean scrapings and chunks of almond and walnut. Mmmmm
I’m not sure how close you are to the NY border, but if you ever find yourself at a Farmer’s Market in Upstate NY, check out Saratoga PB co! We have some really unique nut butter blends and there’s a few new flavors coming out in Febuary. Here’s the website: www.yopeanut.com

i love peanut butter…it’s just the perfect creaminess! i’ve been wanting to try macadamia nut butter for a while now though…i can’t imagine it’s going to have a TON of flavor, but a perfect creaminess! :)
try sunflower seed butter! it’s SO AMAZING!
Hi Angela!
I have been following your blog for a while and really enjoy it!
I discovered Almond Butter last year and absolutely love it! There isn’t a day I don’t eat some AB!!
Peanut butter is not my fave, but almond is awesome!
I got a jar of coconut butter the other day but haven’t tried yet, I did try chocolate coconut butter though and it is really yummy!
Do you like walnuts? Walnut butter is interesting too, not my favorite, although the one I tried was raw walnut butter and I do prefer the roasted ones.
By the way, have you tried both Raw and Roasted Almond Butter? Which one you liked best? I love the roasted one, but find the raw to be a little strong.
Oh, and do you really like Barney Butter all that much? So funny, I got it the other day and both me and my son (who is 7) were not fan of it, it sort of didn’t taste like almonds to me… and the roasted almond flavor is what I love on AB.
And, speaking about apple butter, have you tried Pumpkin Butter, also yummy!! I like it better than the apple one.
Ok, wnough butter talk!
Love your blog!
Ana
ok i know i’ll be the odd man out here, but i think almond butter tastes weird! but i would like to try cashew butter.
I think it does too–at least the one brand I’ve tried (Maranatha).
I want to try coconut butter too!
You NEED to try sunflower seed butter. It is slightly sweet (like barney butter) and super creamy. It is my latest favorite. In fact, since I got it, I have barely touched my peanut butter. It isn’t as expensive as the others either. And Sunbutter natural is just sunflower seeds, salt and is sweetened with cane juice. I bet it would make a good ingredient for a new glo bar! :D
try pine nut butter and hazlenut butter! mmm mmmmm
I have been DYING to try Barney Butter! But almond butter is definitely my favorite, even if it is more expense than the good ole peanut variety :)
I just tried almond butter for the first time and I am in love. I can’t wait to try cashew and have never heard of Barney Butter, I’ll have to check that out as well too.
I just bought almond butter and I can’t wait to try it. Peanut butter is my absolute favorite but that’s really cuz that’s all I’ve had! ;)
I had a small obsession with Sun Butter (sunfower seeds) when I first tried it!
Also, Nutella- the chocolate Hazelnut spread is sinfully decadent and delicious if you have yet to try it
I’ve never tried cashew butter, looks good! I love peanut and almond – especially flavored versions i.e. dark chocolate. Another one you might like to try is this triple nut butter I am obsessed with…it comes from Vermont and is a combo of almonds, pecans and cashews – it’s amazing!
www.nuttyvermonter.com
I thought Trader joe’s Sunflower Seed butter would be tasty-but it tasted like socks! Stinky socks…I can’t seem to love anything more than Adam’s Crunchy salted peanut butter. Though I know it isn’t vegan I have always wanted to try Nutella…
I love almond butter and only recently started eating it since I kinda don’t like nuts. I am getting there though. I think cashew butter sounds great. Maybe my mom will send me some.
Love, love LOVE sunflower seed butter, it’s made my the same company as your Cashew Butter…Nuts to you Nut Butter.
Coconut butter is also amazing, I highly recommend them both!
I have that same cashew butter right now! I’ve been putting it on my oats with molasses ;)
I’m still a natural peanut butter gal, but crunchy almond butter comes in a close second! Pecan butter, hazelnut butter and macadamia butter are all amazing too. They get really liguidy so they’re great for drizzling on things. Not a huge seed butter fan either, never cared for the pumpkin or sunflower stuff I tried.
I’ve only ever tried peanut butter. I’m a healthy living loser. :-(
i looove your breakfast cakes!
and the nut butter that has my heart is called nut n’ budder, it’s made with peanuts, almonds, flax oil and a bit of sugar.
i think canadians definitely got gypped when it comes to nut butters. i’ve never tried barney butter, not to mention all of pb & co’s amazing flavours (liiike dark chocolate dreams or mighty maple) and i wouldn’t even know they existed if it wasn’t for food blogs.
i’ve been really curious about coconut butter too, so go nuts! (….. hahhhh. no nut pun intended.)
Cashew butter IS delicious – tastes exactly like cashews! I would recommend sunflower seed butter!! It’s absolutely amazing. My favorite by far.
Sunflower seed butter, especially from Trader Joe’s, is delicious!
Soynut butter is so-so, but the chocolate soynut butter from Stop & Shop is like crack.
I used to think pumpkin seed butter tasted weird too, but it’s definitely an accustomed taste that I really enjoy now. You just have to aclimatize yourself.
Also to die for is sunflower seed butter! So, so good!
I’ve tried SO many nut butters, but nothing beats almond butter (#1) and peanut butter (#2). Cashew butter is very good and so is hazelnut butter, but I wasn’t a fan of the coconut variety. Can’t wait to see what you try next!
xxoo
Heather
I love almond butter and peanut butter is a close second. While I didn’t mind cashew butter, I haven’t gone back for seconds.
You should try sunflower butter! It’s amazing :)
COCONUT BUTTER!! SO GOOD. For a while coconut butter sandwiches replaced my PBJ and it was like having dessert for lunch every day =D
I bought Artisana brand online. It was so fab. yum yum yum ^_^
Hi Angela,
Love reading your blog. I’ve recently been creating my own nut butters which are so easy to do! Any nut combo you like in a food processor and off you go! I just made some white chocolate peanut butter, honey roasted peanut butter and honey roasted mixed nut butter with white chocolate and unsweetened coconut. So much cheaper than buying and so fresh and you can control what you put in there. You can also control consistency from smooth to crunchy. So delicious!
Jonna
Barney butter is AMAZING! I think I need to branch out more in the world of nut butters, I’ve only eat peanut and almond!
Hi Angela, Glaser Organic Farms makes some yummy nut butters (their Macadamia butter is super creamy and yummy). They are in Florida and have awesome Raw and vegan products so maybe you can stop by on your road trip. I live in Cali, but I have ordered from them twice and LOVE their stuff! Trader Joes makes a to die for Raw Crunchy Almond Butter that is only $5 yeah!
I like Hemp Seed Butter too from Manitoba Harvest.
Have a great day!
Sunflower seed butter. Trader Joe’s is the best!
Ive been wanting to try cashew butter. I imagine it would be pretty fantastic.
I wasnt a fan of the pumpkin seed butter either. Its sitting in my cupboard practically untouched. I was expecting SO much more.
Im in LOVE with almond butter, and now dark chocolate peanut butter. SO good!!
Batters and butters! Awesome! The breakfast cake looks awesome raw…I’m always a fan of “licking the bowl” so I just might have to try it out. :) Also …LOVE nuts butters of every kind…well, that I’ve tried. I have yet to try Cashew butter…but I’ll get on that.
Favorite nut butter is almond, least favorite is cashew.
I have tried almond butter–both the raw and roasted. Of the two I preferred the raw, as the roasted tasted rancid (even though it was far from the expiration date) and I had to take it back. Because everyone raves about AB so much, I finally cracked down and bought a like $10 jar of the raw almond butter, hoping I would like that. It is ok, but not that great. I’ll honestly have to work to finish it.
All in all, I prefer my $2 jar of natural peanut butter, which is much better for my wallet. I originally attempted to switch to AB because I read that peanuts contained alfatoxins–or something like that–but then I heard that a lot of produce does too and it’s not a big deal.
I’m still not sure what to believe, and I would eventually like to transition to a raw butter, as I’m trying to eat more raw foods, but for now I’m enjoying my peanut butter. It IS really important to me that it is natural–and preferably organic–though. I like the only ingredient to be peanuts–not even any salt. It is like a completely different spread than it’s Skippy or Peter Pan imitators. Those taste so fake and sweet–even the consistency is unnerving. Oh, and I’ve tried Naturally More Peanut Spread and was not a fan. It feels like chalk when you stir it and gets hard and dried on when you try to heat it or bake with it. It was good in homemade peanut butter cups, though.
I’m wondering if the brand of almond butter I tried was bad. It’s Maranatha. Has anyone had good luck with them? Perhaps TJ’s AB or Barney Butter will be different? I did make homemade AB once (just almonds and almond milk blended into a butter) and that was pretty good (I loved it spread on fresh peaches or nectarines!)
Oh, and I love apple butter. I would like to make my own one of these days.
As for butters I would like to try: Pumpkin butter, pumpkin SEED butter, walnut butter, sunflower seed butter, cashew butter (the cashew butter pictured here looks really dark; the one’s I’ve seen are white), macadamia butter, coconut butter, cacao butter…the list goes on.
Wow, this comment is practically a post in itself. Sorry about that. I guess I just have a lot of thoughts on nut butters?!
I very much dislike Maranatha almond butter (and some of their other nut butters). Give some others a try. . . I’ve liked Justin’s maple almond butter (a treat for me, since I normally never spend that much), and also some generic AB brands, such as Trader Joe’s.
Maple Almond…that sounds heavenly! I will have to give that a try sometime. Thanks for the suggestions! :)
You just might like this. Mix 1/4 cup of peanut butter with 1/4 cup pumpkin butter (or just plain, canned pumpkin — which I often have on hand). I happen to really like this as a dip for bananas or on a slice of bread for a quick snack.
Great looking breakfast! I really want to try cashew butter but it is so expensive over here :(
We are having similar weird weather. It’s been pouring all day.
My favorite nut butter is raw crunchy almond butter. For some reason the roasted and salted is weird to me.
Ohhh, you made the breakfast cakes raw!!! Do you just follow the recipe and not bake it? (Of course, I would use oat groats instead of rolled oats). :)
I recently made my own walnut butter (just put walnuts in the food processor and process until smooth). It’s quite good; because it’s such a high-fat nut, it works VERY well as a butter!
I need to look into this raw breakfast cake-um YOM.
I’m so glad you liked the cranberry jelly :) I’ve never had cashew butter but now I want to try.
I too, had an obsession with Barney butter-it was all I ate for awhile there. I’m on a peanut butter kick right now.
I think my least favorite is soy nut butter and my most favorite is a tie between almond and peanut-though pecan butter (when I try it) may top the list.
I still love the good ol Almond Butter best. Cashew is nice though because it gets so darned smooth and creamy! I have Coconut Butter in my cupboard! (People will try and tell you – that coconut butter is the oil in solid form – they lie! It’s not the truth)
Artisana is the only coconut butter I’ve seen, and my local organic grocery as well as Whole Foods just started carrying it in Canada. (Just recently) It’s not as ‘buttery’ as you’d think – but still FABU! Dried coconut and the oil blended to a paste? Hell yeah sign me up. :P I eat it straight out of the jar, or sweetened with agave on toast. It can be a bit dry but I’d like to try making a frosting with that and a bit of agave. ‘whip’ it up or something.
Artisana also makes “Cacao Bliss” which is coconut butter with cacao powder and agave. Now THAT is what dreams are made of!
Let me know if you can’t find it Angela – and I”ll mail it from VanCity Gladly!
I can’t believe you haven’t tried coconut butter, I would imagine that you would love it! SO many amazing, amazing baking opportunities!!
Those toast pics were drool-worthy! I haven’t tried much beyond pb, but I am not really an almond butter fan. Sunbutter might be my favorite food on the planet though!
I love the idea of cranberry jam (recipe?) and cashew butter. Another one to try is walnut butter. I actually make it myself (saves a few bucks when you get nuts on sale). I just toast 1 pound of walnuts in 1 350 oven for 5 – 8 minutes. Cool. Then I put them in a food processor. Let the processor run for quite a while, 2 – 4 minutes. It will slowly grind up into ‘butter’. I add kosher salt mid way through the processing. Store in frig. Absolutely delish!
SOYNUT Butter!! YUM.
Soy nut butter, hands down. So yummy!
Lots of very strong opinions on what nut butter is best. Very interesting to read through. I think I like Barney butter the best, but its a little to pricey to eat regularly!
I always like the batter of cakes and cookies better than when it’s baked. So good!
I have tried peanut butter, and almond butter … and I think that is it. I bought apple butter but haven’t had a chance to try it yet – maybe tomorrow!!
Ange, you MUST try Naturally Nutty’s Vanilla Almond Butter. And Hazelnut butter is AMAZING!! And the Cacao Bliss is even better than the coconut butter.
I would have to say on a day to day basis I just can’t get enough peanut butter in my life. I like almond butter on certain things like carrots + fruit but not as much on a sandwich. You need to try pecan butter. It is SINful!!! Oh yeah, and coconut butter is completely creamy and amazing as well. But seriously…try some pecan butter!!! Artisana is the only company I have seen that makes it but I’m sure there are more. I have heard good things about sunflower butter and that it is similar to pnut butter…maybe you’d like that more than the pumpkin seed butter? I could talk about butters all day ;) Ta ta!
Isn’t cashew butter incredible? I tried it for the first time this week too, and it definitely gives PB a run for it’s money!
I’ve been DYING to try cashew butter! It looks delicious. I recently discovered my love of cashews, and ever since, I’ve been convinced cashew butter would be my new favorite thing :)
Err, I don’t know about that raw breakfast cake. It doesn’t look very appetizing (sorry)! I’ve never had any nut butter apart from peanut. I know! How pathetic :(
Have you tried no-nuts pea butter? It’s made with chickpeas, I think, but tastes just like peanut butter! There are subtle differences, but you can hardly tell. It’s amazing!
hazelnut butter is my current favorite, it’s like nutella without the cocoa. But sometimes I also mix cocoa and agave with my HB to make nutella, too lazy to grind up the nuts myself.
But once I get bored I go back to the good old natural pb
Almond is my fave for apples :-) and peanut is for everyday (breakfast cookies etc)
I tried BRAZIL nut butter but I was soo disappointed – maybe it was an dodgy batch but it was oddly dry and tastless (my bloke argues that brazil nuts are also dry and tasteless so maybe it wasn’t just that jar…)
Pumpkin and Hazel are next on my list to try.
Seriously nut butters bring all of us crazies out to comment…I LOVE IT! I actually have stopped buying it so I will slow the heck down
i’m allergic to nuts so i eat soy nut butter – its nut free but its the same color as peanut butter and tastes very similar – i love it!
I haven’t tried cashew butter, but have wanted to. LOVE Barney Butter–need more! Soy butter is okay, sunflower seed butter is really good! But you’re right, Barney Butter just might be the best. Oh and I’ve recently heard about coconut butter and want to try that, too!
Favorite = pecan (homemade); Least favorite = Sunflower.
I love a lot of nutbutters and there are SO many out there to try!
My favorite right now are from this place OMG divine! http://www.spreadtherestaurant.com/catalog/
Maranathas has the best macadamia nutbutter
Futtersnutbutters- the hazelnut roasted is #1 and until I found out I was allergic this was my favorite of them all and I have 20+ types of nutbutters.
I love good old almond butter, but im dying to try cashew butter :) Your raw breakfast cake looks soooo tasty!
Great website here, enjoyed reading alot of coments about nut butters, I produce two nut butters here in canada, Nut ‘N Budder and Almond Budder Extreme…all natural check them out and look for more flavors hitting the store shelves soon. Avail in all Loblaws chain stores across canada
Oh. My. Goodness. After reading this blog I HAD to send away for a free sample of Barney Butter. It came yesterday and I was ecstatic. I’m enjoying it right now with some homemade jam on Ezekiel toast. I’m in love. IN LOVE. I can’t take big enough bites. Why is it so darn expensive though? Now I have an addiction that I cannot support. HUMPH!
