Good morning!
Yesterday I realized that I hadn’t shown you our first food photography collage that we put up. My mother-in-law was over and we consulted her opinion on what we wanted to do (she is an interior designer!) and she loved our ideas.
For hanging, she suggested that we use cardboard to line up all the pictures and trace them onto the cardboard. Then we measured the back of the pictures from the top to the hook and then plotted the hook onto the cardboard with a pencil. After that we taped the cardboard onto the wall, making sure it was level + centered, before drilling holes directly through the cardboard into the wall. This ensured that the drill holes were exactly where we wanted them to allow for the collage we had in mind. Then you carefully rip off the cardboard and your nails are where they should be!
Clear as mud?
Ta-da!
We went with option C in our poll- It won with 31% of 848 votes!
We are mostly happy with it! Our only concern is that the frames are quite reflective. I wonder if this could have been prevented if I got matte prints? We are thinking about making some of our shots into canvas prints, but we need to do some pricing on those. Right now the large collage is in stand-still until we decide!
Now back to my breakfast this AM!
Nothing beats how fast Vegan Overnight Oats are when you are rushing around in the morning. Last night I threw together a new spin on them…
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Vegan Overnight Oats
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1.5 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2-1 tbsp chopped walnuts
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1.25 cup Almond milk
- 1-1.5 tbsp raisins
- 1/2 sliced banana (optional)
- Pure maple syrup, to drizzle on top
- Raisins, to garnish (optional)
Directions: In a bowl, add the oats, chia seeds, walnuts, cinnamon, and raisins. Whisk for 5 seconds or so until mixed. Add Almond Milk and whisk until the clumps are gone. Add chopped or mashed banana if desired. Place in fridge overnight or for 1-2 hours. In the morning, remove from fridge and drizzle with a bit of pure maple syrup.
Yum, these were great! I loved the cinnamon, walnut, and raisin combo. A good option when you don’t have time to make banana soft serve and make it into a parfait!
noooooooo….
I caught these right before bloom!!!!
and….we are off to the market!! It looks like it is going to rain….rain, rain, go away!!!! =(
Have a great day everyone!
Your photos look amazing against the color of your wall! Beautiful arrangement.
We did the market for the community garden I help to run this morning and I’m about to crash! I hope you did really well!
you should put more tips like that from you MIL on here…that little one is going to be HUGE for us!
What a GREAT idea with the cardboard! Totally going to use that one one day. I love the arrangement of the photos. I wonder what is causing the reflection…whether it’s the pictures themselves or the glass. Hmm, the canvas definitely wouldn’t do that, but they are quite expensive. Worth it though in my opinion!
Oatmeal Cookie VOO!! YUM! Good luck at the market today. Oh, how I wish you were close. Hope the rain stays away!!
Hi Angela, I hope it won’t rain today and you’ll have a fantastic day of sales! (Such a pity when so much effort put in the stall setting up process goes to waste because of the rain).
Just wanted to tell you that you’ve inspired me to order Organic Veggie Box delivery in my town. And I’m so happy I did as it makes my vegetarian diet more versatile than before (when I’m in a veggie shop, I get scared of the vegetables I’m not familiar with and end up buying the same sorts every time).
Hi Angela! My name is Liza, nice to meet you! I love reading your blog!!!
Oatmeal cookie everything is one of my favorites so I must try that recipe! Looks yummy :)
Beautiful pictures too! Isn’t taking pictures of flowers the best?
This VOO looks amazing!
This morning I had Green Monster VOO!! It was so good – I just blended 2 cups of spinach with my almond milk before adding it to the oats!
What beautiful photographs! I imagine your house being surrounded by beautiful nature. I am so jealous! I think the collage turned out very nice and I can’t wait to see the big collage when it is complete! Great idea about nailing the cardboard, etc, sounds tedious but I’m sure the results will be amazing.
I can’t wait to try your oatmeal raisin cookie VOO! It looks so delicious!
That collage is beautiful! I think that VOO recipe will go into my book as well. One question though, where do you get your chia seeds? I’ve been looking for them, and either I don’t know where to look or my local natural foods store doesn’t have them, so I was curious. Also, all the flower pictures are beautiful!
I just love your photo collage! What a great idea. And love the olive green color of your wall.
The idea with the cardboard for hanging the collage is fantastic! I never would have thought of it, but it makes perfect sense.
Hi Angela! Love the new VOO recipe! I have a great homemade spice I like to use for my VOO! You can check it out on the blog, www.millieskitchen.blogspot.com ! I’m giving away a sample of the spice this week too! I also love your food collage you made! What a great idea!
Cheers to Health
Heather
Your photos are beautiful! I have not tried VOO but I am looking forward to them. I have to go buy chia seeds first. This week for sure! Thanks for all your fantastic recipes and ideas!
What a great idea to map out your collage on cardboard to help hang the pictures! I always just use the “trial & error” method, which results in lots of extra holes in the wall! :)
My wonderful husband has gifted me quite a few canvas prints over the years, mostly done at print shops in our local area. The owners (when self employed) tend to work with us on price and I mount them myself. If you go to your local Artmart or artist shop and by canvas stretch bars- sold in every length imaginable and priced at around $2-3 per side- you can easily put them together yourself! (Art stores are better than craft stores for the canvas bars/stretchers because they tend to be more accurately cut and stronger.) All you need is a staple gun and an extra set of hands! This link shows the process–>

Don’t worry about stretching it extremely tight because you already have the picture on the canvas. Fold the corners with the skill of a present wrapper and you are set!
Hope this helps you feel more comfortable with canvas prints because they are wonderful!!
Made this recipe last night and had an incredibly delicious breakfast this morning. Thanks!
Tomorrow morning, you will be mine! A little late to oatmeal raisin cookie overnight oats party, but better late than never! Can’t wait for this yummy breakfast!
