Saturday morning + May 1st = Awesome.
Last night Eric and I got our swim on. The great thing about having a workout buddy is that when the other person wants to workout, you feel guilt-tripped motivated to go as well. I just took it easy with my laps and continued to practice bilateral breathing.
I also challenged myself with treading water in the deep end when I got bored of laps. I couldn’t believe it but I treaded water for 15 minutes straight, almost effortlessly! I don’t remember being overly good at treading water when I was young, so I am wondering if running has something to do with it now? I honestly felt like I could go for a half hour or longer. It was so strange!!
Swim #4:
- 35 mins swimming laps, medium pace (freestyle, breaststroke, board (flutter kicks, front and side)
- 15 mins treading water
- Total = 50 mins.
Oh, Eric now has a MENTOR at the pool.
He met this guy who was swimming in the competitive lane and he told Eric he has been doing triathlons for 3 years now. He started off doing the try-a-tri too! He told Eric to stick with it and eventually the swimming leg becomes the easiest part of the triathlon (I’ll believe it when I see it! haha). He also said that the swim we are doing in Milton on June 6th is horribly, horribly COLD. Because it is so early in the season, the water is known for being frigid.
This is the lake in the summertime:
I’m scared.
When they were parting ways he yelled to Eric, ‘KEEP SWIMMING!’
I think this little pep talk really inspired him! Who knows, maybe that will be Eric some day??
We got home and I did not move from the couch all night. Fabulous. We watched The Marriage Ref and it was hilarious!
I have not been having many good hair days since I started swimming, lol.
I also woke up with a headache this morning which tells me that I probably didn’t drink enough water last night!
I was very hungry for this breakfast too.
Banana Soft Serve Vegan Overnight Oats
Ingredients
VOO:
- 1/3 cup regular oats
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2 scoop (2 tbsp) Amazing Grass Amazing Meal Chocolate Powder
Directions: In a small bowl, mix together with a whisk and throw in fridge overnight.
In the morning, make the Banana Soft Serve:
Directions: Take 1 frozen banana and process until smooth. You can add a tiny bit of milk to speed up the process.
Now it is time to layer in a small glass!
Next time, I would actually layer starting with the banana soft serve because I missed the banana at the bottom!
This was sooooooooo good. I loved, loved, loved the banana soft serve + VOO. So refreshing and light!
Happy 1.5 Years, Boo.
Today marks exactly 1 and 1/2 years since I started Oh She Glows. My first post was written on October 31, 2008. Since then I have written 1,185 posts. That works out to being an average of 2.16 posts per day.
It all began with a simple BOO on Halloween day. I laugh when I go back and read old posts…It is funny to see how my writing style and voice changes over time. I will always be ME- quirky and energetic – but I hope that my writing will always continue to progress as the years go by.
Now I have some questions for you today. :)
1) If you are a blogger yourself, when did you start blogging?
2) Whether you have a blog or not, when did you start reading blogs?
3) If you don’t currently have a blog, do you think you ever will start one?
I started reading blogs about a year before I started my blog on Oct 31, 2008. I kept saying to myself, ‘I want to start a blog up’, but it took me a good year before I did. I love blogging because I get to combine all of my passions- writing, fitness, nutrition, helping others- into one spot!
See you for 1,000 Words this afternoon! Have a great day. :)
I started reading healthy living/food blogs in January 2008, and then started my own recipe blog in October 2008. It’s been a great experience, although I wish I could allocate more time and energy to it. I am working to make some big life changes in 2011, and hopefully that will include even more cooking and blogging.
I started a blog last week. But I read, probably about 10-12 blogs. Not everyone updates daily, which makes things easier. In fact there are really only 4 blogs that I read (including yours) that are updated 1-2 times a day. Most of them are about running/nutrition (though there is one about interior decorating, one about magazines, and another about womens/social issues. I find them way more interesting than regular news-sites!! Everyone writes differently and have very different lives so it make it interesting! Not sure how long I’ll keep my blog for. I also don’t like putting myself ‘out there’ :)
Happy 1.5!!!
I stared my blog on September 20th 2009. I started reading blogs probably a little less than a year earlier. I only read about 3 or 4 then,… but now I read so many!!!
I started blogging early June 2008 and I was pretty consistent for a few months and then life really got in the way with graduation and working in nyc with a crazy schedule. I have just restarted blogging today and am so happy to come back.
I started to read blogs just a few months before…and fell in love!
great swim yet again! and eats of course!
haha today marks my 5 monthiversary for the blog.
Congrats on a year and a half! You’re awesome!
I started reading blogs maybe two years ago? I was recovery from an ED and found the healthy and honest relationships with food really inspiring!
I started my own when I arrived at college, to run cross country and track (and learn, I guess…ha) and was having a hard time being so far away from home with no time to myself. I needed a hobby outside of school and sports!
I started reading blogs over a year ago and started one with Kelli in November. We talked about it for awhile before we actually started to write posts and got to a point we were just too excited not to! I’m still trying to find my voice and “purpose” but enjoying the journey.
Happy bloggie Anniversary! I started blogging in August of last year, but I started reading food blogs about a year before that. There is something so magical about the food blogging community that keeps me writing and reading, coming back for more. :) Happy Saturday!
Congrats with your blogiversary! You’ve got an impressive number of posts!
I used to be horrible at treading water too, but I haven’t tried it in a looooong time. Perhaps running does help? Then it would make survival skills much easier, haha.
I started blogging a few years back but have started a new blog recently so that gives me two different outlets to blog about what I wish!
foodforhealing.ca has been up for a little while but before that it was just wordpress. I started later last year, and i am loving it!
I’ve only been blogging for about 6 months – but it’s flown by!! That’s cute that Eric found a mentor! Congrats on your bloggiversary!
I’ve had a website off and on since I was 12 years old – more than half my life! My recent blogging started just over a year ago though. Swimming is not kind to hair, that is for sure – I love your natural curls though!
I have to be honest, I am hooked on VOO, every which way it’s fixed!
Never read blogs except for SparkPeople blogs and then I was referred to yours and now I am hooked. I was just speaking with my hubby about becoming a blogger as well, would like to figure out a name for it and how I would find the time daily to blog. We shall see in the future.
As for your swims, that’s awesome about Eric getting the bug. I think it’ll be even more intense once you both complete that triathlon. Just remember swimming in a pool with lap lines is different from swimming in open water. You both might need to try to get out there and swim when it warms up a bit.
Good luck!
Congrats on 1.5 years blogging. I had a website long before blogs were around so it was natural I changed over. I started blogging on a regular basis in April 97. However, I only just started a food blog about a week ago :-).
I started blogging in January of 2008, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! I started reading in late 2007 and started mine soon after :)

K
I have only been really following blogs for about the last six months. Once I went vegan in October 2009, I reached out to the vegan community on twitter, which led to blogs.
I’ve blogged myself on and off for years, doing a daily journal type, or blogs related to academic projects or travel, but none of them have really stuck. Until now! I just started up again, working from seeing what I like in the blogs that I follow. I’ve only done three or four posts but I’m having so much fun. I’m so inspired by Oh She Glows and I’m excited to see how my blog, Sweet On, develops as the months and years pass.
I don’t currently have a blog and just recently discovered healthy food blogs. I can honestly say, I have changed my outlook on a lot of things since becoming a reader. All positive changes, of course. : ) It did get me thinking about starting my own blog one day and even my husband made the suggestion. It is a little nerve racking deciding if I want to do it or not. I would love to share my passion for healthy eating and fitness, but I wouldn’t even know where to start. I have a question for: Do you ever get tired of sharing everyday on the blog? Do you feel like you have lost some privacy?
Not really because I know that I control how much I choose to share on the blog. You will always have the control. I have days where I am not really in the mood to post, and in those situations, I just don’t post! I like to be quite flexible about it and make sure that I am always above all having fun with it.
Great advice. Thank you!
1.5 years!! Wow! Congratulations, Angela! What a great accomplishment.
I’ve been a reader of blogs for about five or six years, and I’ve played with creating a blog in different formats and concepts over the years, but it wasn’t until six months ago that I just made a blog and started writing because I had all this stuff in my head that I just needed to get *out* … once I did, it really helped me change my life. I actually just started a brand new blog reflecting my new healthy outlook on life, and I attribute it almost completely to my blogging and reading blogs.
PS- I think this OVO/softserve parfait is my favorite of youru OVO creations yet! I usually just eat my OVOs straight but I might make a parfait or two one of these days…thanks for the inspiration!
I started blogging about a week ago :) I have been reading blogs for about a year now. Your blog was actually the first and only blog I kept up with until a few months ago! Congrats on the year and a half mark! You are such an inspiration
