Saturday morning + May 1st = Awesome.
Last night Eric and I got our swim on. The great thing about having a workout buddy is that when the other person wants to workout, you feel guilt-tripped motivated to go as well. I just took it easy with my laps and continued to practice bilateral breathing.
I also challenged myself with treading water in the deep end when I got bored of laps. I couldn’t believe it but I treaded water for 15 minutes straight, almost effortlessly! I don’t remember being overly good at treading water when I was young, so I am wondering if running has something to do with it now? I honestly felt like I could go for a half hour or longer. It was so strange!!
Swim #4:
- 35 mins swimming laps, medium pace (freestyle, breaststroke, board (flutter kicks, front and side)
- 15 mins treading water
- Total = 50 mins.
Oh, Eric now has a MENTOR at the pool.
He met this guy who was swimming in the competitive lane and he told Eric he has been doing triathlons for 3 years now. He started off doing the try-a-tri too! He told Eric to stick with it and eventually the swimming leg becomes the easiest part of the triathlon (I’ll believe it when I see it! haha). He also said that the swim we are doing in Milton on June 6th is horribly, horribly COLD. Because it is so early in the season, the water is known for being frigid.
This is the lake in the summertime:
I’m scared.
When they were parting ways he yelled to Eric, ‘KEEP SWIMMING!’
I think this little pep talk really inspired him! Who knows, maybe that will be Eric some day??
We got home and I did not move from the couch all night. Fabulous. We watched The Marriage Ref and it was hilarious!
I have not been having many good hair days since I started swimming, lol.
I also woke up with a headache this morning which tells me that I probably didn’t drink enough water last night!
I was very hungry for this breakfast too.
Banana Soft Serve Vegan Overnight Oats
Ingredients
VOO:
- 1/3 cup regular oats
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2 scoop (2 tbsp) Amazing Grass Amazing Meal Chocolate Powder
Directions: In a small bowl, mix together with a whisk and throw in fridge overnight.
In the morning, make the Banana Soft Serve:
Directions: Take 1 frozen banana and process until smooth. You can add a tiny bit of milk to speed up the process.
Now it is time to layer in a small glass!
Next time, I would actually layer starting with the banana soft serve because I missed the banana at the bottom!
This was sooooooooo good. I loved, loved, loved the banana soft serve + VOO. So refreshing and light!
Happy 1.5 Years, Boo.
Today marks exactly 1 and 1/2 years since I started Oh She Glows. My first post was written on October 31, 2008. Since then I have written 1,185 posts. That works out to being an average of 2.16 posts per day.
It all began with a simple BOO on Halloween day. I laugh when I go back and read old posts…It is funny to see how my writing style and voice changes over time. I will always be ME- quirky and energetic – but I hope that my writing will always continue to progress as the years go by.
Now I have some questions for you today. :)
1) If you are a blogger yourself, when did you start blogging?
2) Whether you have a blog or not, when did you start reading blogs?
3) If you don’t currently have a blog, do you think you ever will start one?
I started reading blogs about a year before I started my blog on Oct 31, 2008. I kept saying to myself, ‘I want to start a blog up’, but it took me a good year before I did. I love blogging because I get to combine all of my passions- writing, fitness, nutrition, helping others- into one spot!
See you for 1,000 Words this afternoon! Have a great day. :)
That breakfast looks so yummy! I’m going to try to make those overnight oats tonight. I have some Bob’s Red Mill Rolled Oats – will they work? And can I use regular milk – will it still work? I showed my 8-yr old daughter the pics of the oats w/ banana mixture and she’s excited to try it tomorrow morning too!!
I started blogging a couple of months ago. It’s nice to express and share your thoughts!
Have a great day :)
Yes you can use any type of milk! Your bob’s oats will work perfect (thats what I use too) Enjoy!
I do have a blog that I started for fun to share recipes with others on SparkPeople and anyone else who wants to check it out. Although I did blog a few times on it before I started posting regularly.
I first started reading blogs when I found Operation Beautiful and it become the first I read along with Caitlin’s Healthy Tipping Point.
I love banana “ice cream”! I even wrote a blog about it once. So yummy. =)
I’ve been blogging, technically I guess, since about 2001 or so, but I started my most popular blog in 2006. My personal blog is only a few months old and long overdue!
Breakfast looks awesome! Do you find yourself WAY hungrier with swimming lately? I definitely do! I can’t believe you tread for 15min. It is a great ab workout!! I started my first blog “ota.bars” last April. I didn’t even know food blogs existed!! I don’t know who came up with the idea..honestly don’t remember if someone suggested it or if I just did it. I started it for the granola bars as a way for my family + friends to see my progress with the business. I only updated about once every 2 weeks. It started to pick up a little bit towards the end of the summer but I still wasn’t good at frequent posts. Then, my huz saw a 5min video on Current TV about Kath! She was talking about her blog and what she does and Chris was like, “hey you should check out this girl’s blog..she’s really into food and I think you would like it!” [I was also super into food at that point too] I checked out Kath’s blog and was hooked. Then I realized we lived in the same city so we met up. Then I started to realize how many food blogs were out there! I still was writing on the ota.bars blog and then moved to Colorado, which is when my blog turned into more of the food + healthy living blog. About a month after moving to Colorado, I made the change to Edible Perspective. I honestly love it! Are you sorry you asked now? I wrote a mini-book! lol
I love your story! I’m so glad we found each other.
And yes swimming makes me VERY hangry. So much hangrier than usual. lol
I started blogging Jan/06, but didn’t really comment on anything til about 6 months later. I was too scared to let people read my blog! I’ve moved blog URL’s since then, but still have all my old posts saved so I can laugh at them! :)
I starting blogging in January 2010 after reading blogs for about 3 months. I’m still working to try to find my writing style, but figure it will develop over time. I try to write about 5 a week. Reading your blog and other blogs have helped inspire me to keep at it, and the occasional comment I get helps to let me know someone is listening.
Congrats on your 1.5! I think I started reading blogs maybe a year ago. I wouldn’t have remembered, but one of the bloggers mentioned something that happened a year ago, and I was actually reading at that time and remembered it. I would like to start one, but it’ll have to wait a while. I work for a newspaper, and I think blogging outside of work is kind of touchy because they don’t want you expressing opinions that make the paper look biased (not that I’d really be blogging about controversial stuff). So, I’d like to wait until I don’t have to worry about who’s reading.
I started blogging on 12/23/2009, but I have been reading blogs for about a year. I found myself so inspired by other people’s pictures and ideas that I wanted to put myself out there and create a space all my own.
I love blogging because it helps keep my on track in my journey to becoming healthy. I find motivation from other bloggers that carries over into my own, and the community that surrounds my blog is absolutely invaluable to me.
Although my blog is still in an infantile stage right now, I have big plans for where I want it to go in the future. With some upcoming travel this summer, I am sure things will get interesting. Stay tuned! :)
I totally agree about the motivation aspect. I would never be donig all these crazy things if it wasn’t for the blog world inspiring me. Crazy to think about!
Wow– it seems like you’ve been blogging for longer (in a good way!!). I’m about to hit my six month mark, which is crazy to me! Happy blogiversary!
Angela,
Hearing about your experience with swimming has helped me to build confidence to try it myself and it is wonderful! My partner said it looked like I was drowning because I was out of breath but it will get easier, right?
MAJL
YAY congrats!!!
It does get easier…only 4-5x so far for me and I feel so much better.
Also, I find that it takes a good 15 mins EACH swim to feel warmed-up and comfortable again. I still get butterflies each time!
Mmmmmmm banana soft serve and VOO parfait! Lovely and delicious :D I must try this!
I started blogging, oh… maybe a few weeks ago? I didn’t think that I would be able to blog daily, but now I keep a big brainstorm list of what to blog about and then I’ll keep adding to it. My blog is really more for expression and for the sense of community I get from commenting and comments… and plus, it’s just a lot of fun at the end of the day to sit down and write about something.
Have a great day! I’m still drooling over your breakfast… :P
Wei-Wei
I can’t believe that you’ve only been blogging 1.5 years! It feels like I’ve been reading your blog forever. Maybe it’s just the abundance of great posts?!? I started reading blogs over a year ago and just started mine a few weeks ago. It’s fun and I love the supportive blogging community. Take care and keep up the good work!
1) March 26, 2010 :D
2)since May 2009
I would guess you had been blogging longer too! It’s amazing to see how much can change in such a short amount of time.
I started a blog on Blogger in September of 2009 but posts were very sporadic and only really a journal for my competition prep workouts. Then, in January of this year I started a WordPress blog (and converted my old stuff to it) but I still say January is when I first started actually blogging. I posted regularly, had more pertinent information, and did it more for the community than a personal journal. January is around when I started regularly reading blogs as well. I read a couple starting last summer but not regularly.
I started blogging about three weeks ago…..and your blog was definitly a source of inspiration for me to start it up! i love reading blogs and writing my blog now! it is so fun. i actually have my first giveaway going on right now! check it out if you want : healthyhelper.wordpress.com
i started blogging about 3 weeks ago- newbie hehe. but ive been reading blogs for oh a good 5 years really! <3
I’m slowly started a blog over the last little while. Would really like to get more into it. I have had similar issues like you in school with binge eating, etc. It’s just hard to maintain a blog with being in school.
I started a mini blog (a Tumblr blog) about 2 months ago. That is when I started training for my half-marathon, and I wanted something that would track my progress (openly)! Since then, it has developed into much more than a tracking tool. I am tempted to switch over to a wordpress or blogger blog, but we’ll see if I have the time to blog regularly.
I didn’t really start reading other healthy living blogs until then. However, now reading my blogs is a staple in my daily routine!
Oh gosh, I hope the weather is as beautiful in Ontario today as it is in NB!! It was a fabulous May 1st morning and will be an even better afternoon (once I get my butt off the couch and stop reading blogs :P)
Are you guys doing a practice open water swim before the tri? I highly suggest doing at least one! Swimming in open water feels like a whole other world compared to the pool, and you’ll feel a lot more confident going in :)
1) I started blogging January 2009. I think the 5th? It was random and I didn’t tell anyone about it until a week in. I was writing a LOT for school and work, but not the topics I wished I could be writing about. Plus, I’m weird and absolutely adore taking pictures of my food. I’m already noticing how my “voice” has changed and I hope it continues to evolve. I really aspire to be a GOOD writer.
2) The first food blog I ever stumbled upon was j3nn.net in the summer of 2008. It fascinated me! Then I found Caitlin’s in September 2008 and now I read probably a hundred :P
Happy 1.5!!
We are gonig to try to do 2 open water swims the week leading up to the race. We are renting wetsuits so we will only have them for about 6 days before the race! I think the open water will be SOOOOOOO much more difficult.
Love that your fella is finding encouragement along the way. When you mentioned “keep swimmming” all I could think of was Dora in Finding Nemo and her phrase, “Just keep swimming.” It’s such a simple and yet impactful mantra. :)
I started blogging just recently when I realized my story could be an inspiration for others making their way in life. I was first drawn into reading blogs as I was needing support becoming a step-mother figure. Also, my schedule is hectic and my to-do list never-ending. It seemed like healthy eating was always the priority I was willing to put-aside. Not soo much anymore! I love the inspiration of seeing women much like myself find creative ways to lead healthy lives!
Gotta say, I love your blog! Congrats on 1.5 of sharing your story!!
