Check out this awesome email I got yesterday from Jackie:
Hi Angela!
I was in Nashville, TN this weekend for a women’s health and fitness retreat. There was a place to post recipes to share, and I posed one of a Green Monster. A girl came up to me and asked if I got it off your blog! I said yes and we talked about much we both love your writing. She is from South Dakota and I am from Texas, and we met in Tennessee. It is amazing how widespread you are! Keep up the great work, we love what you are doing. I even turned the trainer we were working with onto Green Monsters!
Seriously cool, Jackie!! Green Monster destiny brought you two together, haha.
On that note, I have a new favourite green monster!!!
You must try this combo out!!!
Cantaloupe-Banana- Spinach Green Monster
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ripe + juicy cantaloupe
- 1 cup Soy milk + bit more
- 4 cubs ice
- 1 scoop Hemp-Maca-E3Live protein powder
- 4 cups spinach
- 1 T flax
- 1 small banana
This GM tasted like a DREAM!!! I think the cantaloupe is my favourite fruit in GM’s now! This mix made a TON of liquid. My belly was so very full and happy after I drank it this morning. I think I was glowing GREEN.
I drank it this morning as I looked over our wedding album that we created at Blurb. Coolest photoalbum making website ever!
It is the best quality and super cheap prices too!
We designed our 120 page full colour wedding album for- get this- $120 USD! We ordered 5 of them and gave them as gifts to our family. It was such a nice way to give others a lasting memory that they will have forever!
We have designed 3 albums from Blurb. A Sketchie album, our wedding album, and Eric made me an album that he surprised me with the night before our wedding. It was filled with all of our old notes, cards, and pictures, that he scanned and uploaded. If you are looking for an awesome gift to make someone, I highly suggest Blurb!!!

You demanded it, I produced it…WE WANT MORE SKETCHIE!
A Day In The Life Of Sketchie…
Sketchie says, ‘I don’t play…I HUNT.’
Sketchie says, ‘Just for the record, I don’t need my claws to catch my prey. That’s how good I am.’
Sketchie says: ‘Hereyee, hereyee!! Don’t forget to enter the Book Buddy Giveaway!’ ;)
Self Magazine sent me their July ‘09 issue in the mail, brimming with fun fitness articles. I read it during yesterday’s workout!
I was intending to go for a run yesterday, but my legs were still a bit sore from the July 1st’s run, so I opted for non-impact exercise. I have learned my lesson from past injuries and try my best to listen to my body now (even though sometimes it is hard!).
In SELF magazine, they interviewed none other than Jillian Michaels on her top fitness tips!
Check out her video here as well as a contest that you can enter to win a trip for two to LA to have lunch with Jillian!! (US residents only, unfortunately).
Here is some of what she had to say:
- Jillian: “I don’t love broccoli and I don’t love the treadmill, but I love the way I feel when I am healthy and strong…so remember, although something might not be fun in the moment, remind yourself of the ultimate reward and allow that to motivate you.”
I love that quote! It is so true. Many of you ask me how I do my tough treadmill workouts or how I stay motivated. The truth is, I don’t always want to work out! Some days I am just feeling lazy and blah. But when I remind myself of how I feel AFTER my workout, it usually inspires me to want that feeling!
It felt so good to take this time yesterday and just sweat it out on the treadmill! I was feeling a little tense and I needed just to zone out.
The workout:
- Duration: 55 mins
- Treadmill hill walking + 4 advanced side planks with arm reach
- First 10 mins (4.2 mph), next 35 mins (4.3 mph), last 10 mins 3.5 mph- all at incline 15%
- Max heart rate: 169 bpm
- Avg heart rate: 152 bpm
Four times during the workout, I got off the treadmill and did my advanced side planks with the arm reach. I do 10 arm reaches (very slow and controlled) per side. I LOVE these!
Today, I will of course be doing the SGBC exercises (4, 5, 6) and possibly go for a run!

Today’s Question:
What food product(s) have you seen in the blogosphere that you are DYING to try but haven’t been able to get your hands on yet?
For me, I get weak in the knees when I see this all over the US blog world…
Oh Barney Butter, why won’t you visit Canada?
I want to wish all of my US readers a VERY fun and safe 4th of July long weekend!! Have a fabulous time whatever you may be doing. :) Kick back, relax, and enjoy good food!
awesome photos! Thanks for the heads up on Blurb ;)
Hmm, I tried the cantaloupe one time and didnt care for it, maybe I’ll try it again with your ingredients though! Happy Friday! :)
You and CCV used the same title for your posts this week, which got me thinking. If you combined your foods that will take over the world, you would get the most nutritious breakfast ever and probably really could take over the world because it would be so freakin healthy and delicious!
Fage Fat free greek yogurt; I eat this all the time in the States: http://www.fageusa.com/products.aspx?prevSect=home#/products/zero
Hi Angela,
I always find your posts to be very insightful. However, I get the overall message of the quote and article, but I don’t agree with it entirely. In my latest post I wrote an excerpt from a book I recently read that talked about doing things that suit you! I don’t think someone should be running if they don’t want to (that’s the implication I got from Jillian’s quote). Not everyone is a runner, or a biker, or a dancer – but the real key to sticking to something is doing something that suits you. Even some Olympian athletes cut themselves some slack on a day they just don’t feel like it.
Let’s see… what do you I want to try that I’ve seen on blogland? I’d have to say kabocha!
I couldn’t agree more…I don’t think that every type of activity suits everyone…I say if you don’t want to run, then don’t run! Don’t do yoga if you don’t want to (see how I stopped doing it a lot! lol). Not everything will suit everyone of course. My point here is to illustrate that I don’t ‘want’ to do every workout that I do…and that is ok! Sometimes it is raining and all I want to do is get outside but I do my indoor cardio on the treadmill. If I think about how good I will feel afterwards (and yes during too!) it motivates me to stick with it! With that being said, that doesn’t mean that off days aren’t good because they are- I take 1-2 a week. Thanks for bringing this point up! ~A
Greek yogurt!!!! I can’t find it anywhere around here! I love thick yogurt, and I just know I would love that stuff. Vita tops and PB2 are pretty high on the list too…
Love your thoughts on working out. My rule is never do a workout I don’t think is fun. Even when I’m pushing myself through a hard sprint, I still love every second of it ;) If I don’t feel like running one day, then I go biking instead. The key is to just do some activity, any activity, that you think is fun. That’s motivation enough! :)
I keep seeing people blog about white chocolate peanut butter. I think it’s made by the Peanut Butter Company, and while I know where to but it, I’m really holding back. I already tried their dark chocolate peanut butter, and while I hate sweet peanut butter and am really indifferent to chocolate and peanut butter together, this was definitely the crack of condiments. The jar disappeared in, like, a week, so I’m very wary of buying anything else by them. Can’t go through sugar-y peanut butter so fast!
Tried my FIRST green monster today. I kept it pretty sweet with pinepple and banana, but I also had spinach, cucumber and flax meal in there. Yay me!!!
I have been dying to try OIKOS GREEK YOGURT!! I can’t find it anywhere. :( Nova Scotia is not so hip when it comes to all that natural, organic stuff. I really wish they would be though. I buy a good amount from the organic section at the Superstore. I love eating healthy. It tastes SO much better (IMO)! :)
I want to try Flat Out wraps! I cannot find them anywhere! Or Vitamuffins!
I love the pictures of Sketchie!
I read that article and loved it! I want to try the holey donuts! And naturally nutty nut butters. Those look delicious!
Sketchie always makes me smile… today has been kind of a crummy day, so seeing his pics was a great mood-booster! Thanks for the fun blog :)
OMIGOD! Absolutely everything! Madelin, where did you find Martha’s Crackers? Australia is an absolute desert where vegan treats are concerned. When you do find something, it costs the earth! Almond milk is only available at a very few select health food stores and then its too expensive!
Love Sketchie! He is so cute.
I am DYING to try Amazing Grass or one of those similar products…but it’s not in my budget these days!!
Mine would have to be white chocolate wonderful by PB & Co. Cannot find it anywhere.
Happiness Awaits
