Green Monsters Take Over The World

July 3, 2009

Check out this awesome email I got yesterday from Jackie:

Hi Angela!

I was in Nashville, TN this weekend for a women’s health and fitness retreat. There was a place to post recipes to share, and I posed one of a Green Monster. A girl came up to me and asked if I got it off your blog! I said yes and we talked about much we both love your writing. She is from South Dakota and I am from Texas, and we met in Tennessee. It is amazing how widespread you are! Keep up the great work, we love what you are doing. I even turned the trainer we were working with onto Green Monsters!

Seriously cool, Jackie!! Green Monster destiny brought you two together, haha.

On that note, I have a new favourite green monster!!!

You must try this combo out!!!

IMG_8757

Cantaloupe-Banana- Spinach Green Monster

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ripe + juicy cantaloupe
  • 1 cup Soy milk + bit more
  • 4 cubs ice
  • 1 scoop Hemp-Maca-E3Live protein powder
  • 4 cups spinach
  • 1 T flax
  • 1 small banana

 IMG_8753

This GM tasted like a DREAM!!! I think the cantaloupe is my favourite fruit in GM’s now! This mix made a TON of liquid. My belly was so very full and happy after I drank it this morning. I think I was glowing GREEN.

I drank it this morning as I looked over our wedding album that we created at Blurb. Coolest photoalbum making website ever!

It is the best quality and super cheap prices too!

We designed our 120 page full colour wedding album for- get this- $120 USD! We ordered 5 of them and gave them as gifts to our family. It was such a nice way to give others a lasting memory that they will have forever!

IMG_8754

We have designed 3 albums from Blurb. A Sketchie album, our wedding album, and Eric made me an album that he surprised me with the night before our wedding. It was filled with all of our old notes, cards, and pictures, that he scanned and uploaded. If you are looking for an awesome gift to make someone, I highly suggest Blurb!!!

You demanded it, I produced it…WE WANT MORE SKETCHIE!

A Day In The Life Of Sketchie…

Sketchie says, ‘I don’t play…I HUNT.’

 IMG_8797

Sketchie says, ‘Just for the record, I don’t need my claws to catch my prey. That’s how good I am.’

Sketchie says: ‘Hereyee, hereyee!! Don’t forget to enter the Book Buddy Giveaway!’ ;)

Self Magazine sent me their July ‘09 issue in the mail, brimming with fun fitness articles. I read it during yesterday’s workout!

I was intending to go for a run yesterday, but my legs were still a bit sore from the July 1st’s run, so I opted for non-impact exercise. I have learned my lesson from past injuries and try my best to listen to my body now (even though sometimes it is hard!).

IMG_8811

In SELF magazine, they interviewed none other than Jillian Michaels on her top fitness tips!

Check out her video here as well as a contest that you can enter to win a trip for two to LA to have lunch with Jillian!! (US residents only, unfortunately).

Here is some of what she had to say:

  • Jillian:  “I don’t love broccoli and I don’t love the treadmill, but I love the way I feel when I am healthy and strong…so remember, although something might not be fun in the moment, remind yourself of the ultimate reward and allow that to motivate you.”

I love that quote! It is so true. Many of you ask me how I do my tough treadmill workouts or how I stay motivated. The truth is, I don’t always want to work out! Some days I am just feeling lazy and blah. But when I remind myself of how I feel AFTER my workout, it usually inspires me to want that feeling!

IMG_8810

It felt so good to take this time yesterday and just sweat it out on the treadmill! I was feeling a little tense and I needed just to zone out.

The workout:

  • Duration: 55 mins
  • Treadmill hill walking + 4 advanced side planks with arm reach
  • First 10 mins (4.2 mph), next 35 mins (4.3 mph), last 10 mins 3.5 mph- all at incline 15%
  • Max heart rate: 169 bpm
  • Avg heart rate: 152 bpm

Four times during the workout, I got off the treadmill and did my advanced side planks with the arm reach. I do 10 arm reaches (very slow and controlled) per side. I LOVE these!

Today, I will of course be doing the SGBC exercises (4, 5, 6) and possibly go for a run!

~~~~~
Today’s Question:
What food product(s) have you seen in the blogosphere that you are DYING to try but haven’t been able to get your hands on yet?
For me, I get weak in the knees when I see this all over the US blog world…
img_8356[image source]
Oh Barney Butter, why won’t you visit Canada?
Angela_Signature
I want to wish all of my US readers a VERY fun and safe 4th of July long weekend!! Have a fabulous time whatever you may be doing. :) Kick back, relax, and enjoy good food!
OMG, Barney Butter for me too definitely. And Amazing Grass. They don’t sell either in the UK and I’m absolutely dying to try both of them.
I am giving you some fan mail! You have inspired me to incorporate green smoothies into my life. My blog is brand new, and I can’t wait to put a picture of me drinking “green” soon. Thanks (I am orginally from Toronto too).
I want to try Nada Moo, a coconut-based ice cream they only sell in Texas (I think) because I am a FROYO (frozen yogurt) LOVER!
You can check out the stats on their website =]
Oh my gosh, try everthing you all eat! Here in Australia pretty much the only thing I can get my hands on is Mary’s crackers! And I only found Kale for the first time about a month ago! Ps, sketchie is so cute!
Hilarious about the GM’s! I do think they are a phenomenon!
I have a bunch of my friends in real life hooked on them too!
I might be the lone dissenter here but I did not like Barney Butter. It is sweetened and I really don’t like sweet tasting nut butter (nor do I like foods with added sweeteners in general) I have been curious about chia seeds but haven’t gotten around to try them yet.
That GM sounds great. I can’t wait until canteloupe is in season here.
I’d be so thrilled if you had a category on your blog that linked to all of your Sketchie pics:)…Reading your blog lifts me up every day, and Sketchie is the icing on the cake! He’s such a cutie!!
I’ve been dieing to try everything!!!
Here in my country, we don’t have any cool products like you do. For example, almond milk, larabars, greek yogurt…
Sketchie is such a beautiful cat! A real tiger :D
I’ve been wanting to try VitaMuffins but they are mucho $$ Finally they were on sale this week! I want to see if they are worth all the hype they get.
Funny note, I worked out with my trainer last night and at the end of our session he was throwing some core work at me. He had me do the side planks with the arm reach! Love them. My midsection is rock hard this morning.
Have a great day!
I agree with the barney butter. I’ve also been dying to try naturally more peanut butter, but so far I can’t find it anywhere!
It’s really funny, when I told a camp coworker about my “weird green smoothies” that I’ve been drinking, she asked me “did you learn about them from Angela?” like it was some code! HOW FUNNY!
i love how you started this green monster revolution. it’s practically a way of life!
i’m dying to try amazing grass and naturally nutty’s vanilla almond butter. i tried a sample of barney butter but surprisingly wasn’t really a fan.
great tips on motivation – thinking about how you feel after a workout is definitely a great motivator. i always feel strong and refreshed, and that’s reason enough to do it
I’ve been wanting to make the chia pudding that was circling around the blog world. I finally gave in and ordered chia seeds. I can’t wait til I get them!
By the way, I made your canteloupe creamsicles the other day and they were awesome! I posted about them here if you wanna check them out:
Hi Angela,
My treadmill only goes up to a 12% incline. Would 12% on my treadmill still be less that 15% on yours? Or are they specific to the treadmill? IS that confusing? By the way, I’m loving the challenge! :)
You rock!
Oh that’s so true about working out! I usually tell myself during 10-13 mile runs that i’m going to have long, lean runner’s legs just to push through to those last few miles! haha!
Sketchie is quite the character!
Heather- When we went to look at the litter, I thought he was acting very ‘Sketchie’ compared to all his other brothers and sisters…lol. He was by far the most active, hyper, and crazy!
I think Cacao Bliss is something I keep seeing that sounds so interesting!
Love Sketchie – I am a cat person (much to my allergic DH’s chagrin!)
