Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!
And quite chilly this morning too.
Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!
It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).
Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…
We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.
He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)
We are absolutely in love with it:
It’s incredibly soft and comfy…
and will be great for entertaining!
…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…
We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.
The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:
and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.
We also tried here:
and it looked even more odd…
So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????
I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.
And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?
We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

To my US readers: I know that Canadian only Oral-B contest was tough to swallow yesterday! I really wish I could have opened it up to US residents too, but I was not able to. Well, today we have a US resident only contest because all is fair in love and war on OSG.
The wonderful people from Aurorae are willing to giveaway one new yoga mat to a lucky US reader!
I can’t review the mat myself as they do not ship to Canada, but I’d be curious to hear what you think of it should you win one.
You get to choose the COLOUR of your mat should you win!!!
How to enter:
- Leave a comment on this post telling me what you would do with our extra brown couch (hahah) AND what colour of mat you would choose.
Rules: Open to US residents only please. Contest closes Thursday Dec. 3rd at noon EST.
Goodluck!

Ok, now that this home reno stuff is out of my system, I promise to get back to my health posts and hot topics!!!!

Well since you’ve appreciated your hand me down furniture so much…is there anyone you can pass the couch to? You know, pay it forward :)
As for the mat color…definitely the seamist. I’ve been obsessed with that color recently!
I like the back-to-back picture up there. I think you should leave it like that.
I want a yoga matttt!
Do you have another room you could put it in??
I would choose the violet mat!
I LOVE THE COUCH! Oh man, it’s so gorgeous! And I agree with the others, I think that you should put it on Craigslist and make someone else’s day.
I think I would choose solar because it’s so happy!
I would definitely choose the Ocean colored mat. Its just such a pretty blue! :)
As for the couch, I would keep it around for your christmas party, and then sell it on Craig’s List. Maybe when you sell the couch you’ll find a new coffee table in return! :)
Your new sofa is genius! I love when people have great luck on Craiglist (I haven’t… yet!). We were recently trying to unload some old furniture, to make room for new furniture and found a homeless advocacy agency in Boston (I’m sure there’s something similar up your way) that uses donated goods to set up temporary/permanent shelter for families. Bonus: they’ll pick up. Super bonus: you’ll feel good.
I’d love a chance to win one of these cute yoga mats (seamist is my favorite!).
Hope all’s well!
Put your old couch up on Craigslist – it might earn you some good karma and I’m sure it would make some student or young couple starting out very happy!
I would choose the Infinity color mat – mostly because it would match my yoga clothes :)
HMMM LETS SEE: IN YOUR ENTRY ROOM? BEDROOM? OR CRAIGLIST AND SPEND THAT MONEY ON A NEW COFFEE TABLE :)
I WOULD LOVE THE VIOLET ONE. THOSE MATS LOOK AWESOME.
I like Seamist :)
Don’t put the couch in front of the sliding glass door – fire hazards stress me out. Just hang on to it until the Christmas party and then pass it on.
Great couch! It looks very cozy and comfy. As far as your other couch – see if you can make a little of your money back on Craigslist! Otherwise, do you have a basement? That’s where all of our unused things seem to go. haha
As far as the mat color, I think I’d have to choose violet or solar…I can’t decide which. I like them both!
I would leave it behind the other couch for now… great set up for a party. And then before giving it away, see if you have any use for it in another room. guest room? study?
And I would choose Seamist or Infinity
Put it in a guest room or sell it right back on craigslist!
I would love a violet mat! I need a soothing, calming mat for my prenatal yoga!
My sister is an elementary school teacher and has two couches in her classroom. The kids use them during reading time and recess, when it’s too cold to go outside (as it often is in Michigan.) Maybe you could find a school in your neighborhood that could use a couch?
I’d love the Infinity mat. I take yoga classes about four times a week and have been working with the same pink mat for about two years- the dark one would definitely be a welcome change.
PS love the blog. I started Whittle my Middle yerterday.
If I had a spare sofa for my house I would put it in the office/spare bedroom or in the loft.
If you don’t have extra space in any other room then I would donate it to a halfway house or youth center.
I love the seamist mat!
Put it in front of your house. It will be gone by morning.
Well, at least when I lived in LA that was the case!
LOVE the blue!!!
I think you should make the old couch a new bed for Sketchie. Do you have a spare bedroom to store it temporarily? I would choose the “ocean” colored yoga mat to keep me thinking cool thoughts in the hot yoga room!
If you honestly can’t find a good place to keep your old couch, then why not sell it? You could use the money to buy a new coffee table!
I think I would choose the black mat, I know it sounds kind of boring, but that is the one that just pops out to me. I do need a new yoga mat too!
I would put the couch in another room if you want it for an “extra bed” for holiday guests. It’s too much furniture to keep it in that room, then maybe put it on Craigslist.
I like the solar mat.
Do you have a spare room you could turn into a cozy den? That’s totally what I would do… or a man-cave? I bet Eric would ilke that! I love the Ocean color!
Violet. I think you should pay it forward with your old couch and put it up for free on Craigslist.
