The lovely ladies from Booty Camp Fitness recently sent me their new Ultimate Home Edition 11-disc workout plan to try out. I am a big fan of their first workout DVDs, so I was really excited to try their newest series. Sammie Kennedy- the Creator of Booty Camp Fitness- and the other amazing boot-camp instructors have a very friendly and laid-back style, making even the biggest exercise newbie feel confident. When you think of a “boot camp” workout, you often think of instructors screaming at you and lots of intensity. This isn’t Booty Camp’s style at all. It’s all about having fun, empowering women, and making it seem like you are working out with a few of your girlfriends (who just happen to know some killer workout exercises).
The 11-disc series contain the following workouts:
The DVDs come with a workout calendar, jump rope, measuring tape, lifestyle guide, and e-cookbook as well. I’ve been testing out the workouts since the end of December and I’m starting the 2-month plan this week.
The workout that I love to hate? 20-minute Bounce ‘n Burn (jump rope)
Burn isn’t even the word! My legs feel like bricks when I do this workout. The last time I jumped rope was probably in grade school so it wasn’t pretty the first time I did it. After a couple painful sessions, I’ve relearned how to jump rope without whipping myself like silly (tip: wear long pants!). It will probably take me at least a few more sessions until I’m not gasping for air..it’s an intense 20 minutes, even with alternating jumping rope with strength exercises.
So far the videos are going well and I’m loving the variety of the 11 workouts. My muscles hate me though, so I’ve been making sure to stretch a lot, take my rest days when needed, and get lots of protein following tough workouts.
Like with this Triple lentil Recovery Soup!

Total time
Packed with over 25 grams of protein per serving, this soup will aid with post-workout recovery and get you back in the game in no time.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 sweet onion, chopped (~2 cups)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 heaping cup chopped celery
- 1/2 tsp coriander
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 5-6.5 cups vegetable broth, depending on how thin/thick you want it
- 1/2 cup dry red lentils
- 1/2 cup dry black beluga lentils
- 1 cup dry green/brown lentils
- Kosher salt & pepper, to taste (I used about 1/2 tsp salt)
Directions
- In a large skillet or pot, add the oil and sauté the onion and garlic over low-medium heat for about 6-7 minutes.
- Add in the celery and sauté another few minutes. Stir in the spices and cook for another couple minutes on low.
- Now, rinse and drain the lentils and stir into skillet/pot. Add the broth and stir well. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, a simmer until thick and lentils are cooked, about 45 minutes to an hour. Watch closely and stir frequently so it doesn’t stick to the pot. Add more broth to thin out if desired. You can also use an immersion blender to blend some of the soup a bit. I did this, but left it mostly chunky. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Prepare yourself for a high protein and flavourful soup, great for all those sore muscles that we often have at the beginning of the year. A little bit goes a long way with this soup! It’s extremely filling and lovely with a toasted bun or piece of bread.
It’s a bit of an “ugly duckling” soup, but I think we learned not to judge food by its appearance long ago. ;)

This year, instead of making goals and resolutions, my friends and I decided to just pick one word that we wanted the new year to be all about. Mine this year was “Happiness”. I want to do the things that make me truely happy this year, and one of the main things that makes me happy is taking care of myself by exercising and eating right! It got to be too much of a calories-burnt and tick-the-boxes thing last year.
My general goal: improvement my overall health and strengh, more specifically I want to be able to squat, bench and maybe deadlift over 100lbs by the end of the year.
To live as healthily and happily as possible.
buy our first hOUSE!!
I plan to run my first half-marathon in 2012. I currently haven’t run more than 4 miles nonstop but I’m going to train all year long for a December half-marathon.
This year has been off to a great start…I just turned 30 and I have a few goals to accomplish, first and foremost to raise money and awareness for what the SEMPER FI FUND does for so many families of wounded Marines, as it has for mine just two years ago when my husband was injured in combat, last year we raised over $1000, so this year I am going to try and double that. I am also running at least 1 race every month, a few 5ks, some 10ks, at least 2 half marathons, and 1 marathon (I ran my first last year). Those are just a couple things that I am going to accomplish this year and I am looking forward to having fun while doing it!
Id like to final be able to win my battle against myself. Fully making leaps to recovery from the anorexia I’ve been battling for 17 years and manage against my new diagnosed thyroid disease at 28. I want to be healthy, treat food like fuel that I need and be balanced. With my weight jumping around due to disordered eating and then my unbalanced metabolism from the under active thyroid…I just want to be happy and healthy and …well.
Thank you for all you do Angela. I’m so thankful I found your blog and your story. <3
In 2012, my goal is to think more peacefully about food (without stress), and to learn to distinguish between hunger and compulsive eating.
I want to bike another Gran Fondo in 2012 (I did the Whistler ride last year so this year maybe one in the Okanagan.) This give-away sure would be good training. :)
My goal for 2012 is to bike the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer in August. You have to be willing to raise at least $2500.00, so I have to get over my people fears to canvas for the money, and you have to be fit, over 200 kilometers in two days. I’m biking and walking right now, but know that I have to do more cross training to work up my core strength. cheers, Summer
I love your recipes and dedication! Thank you for your work, it does affect lives of others in positive ways!
one of my most excited and important goals for this year is to reconnect with my family… on every level! I love my mom, dad and sister with all my heart and will try to be more patient, caring and not so judgmental of anything they do. I see how my child likes being around them and I know it’s up to me to make our relationships work!
I would like to finally get fit enough to do real push ups.
Great giveaway, Agela!
My goal for 2012 is to realizewhich is the job that is exactly made for me, for my interests and knowledge. I’m a lawyer but I’m not totally satisfied so I’ve to develop some new ideas for something fitted for me. I hope I’ll get it, but it’s hard…
Have a gorgeous New Year!
Hi Angela! That workout sounds fabulous!
Besides getting healthier and fitter in 2012, I’d like to learn to play the piano.
I have my first piano lesson this Friday ;-)
I will be graduating college, so I hope to get a job!!!
I want to use my last semester of school to study for my CPA exam so I can take it as soon as possible and have the entire summer to relax and travel before I start work!
Hi Angela. Those DVD’s look great! 2012 is the yearnI am planning on doing my first olympic triathlon:-)
Create more, read more, travel more.
I’d like to run my first half marathon in June 2012!!! It’s a big goal, but I think it’ll be one of my most successful New Year’s resolutions yet.
Hi Angela!
Something I hope to make happen this year is go back to uni and study my Masters in dietetics. I’ve been working for one of the biggest accounting firms in my country last year (straight out of uni) but I have finally worked out what my passion is in life – now I just have to chase it ;)
