Project Glow + Baking Flops

April 28, 2009

IMG_9980

They had a special 2 for 1 deal on Green Monsters today! I told Eric I made him a special treat this morning, but he wasn’t buying it. Has anyone out there been successful in getting their boyfriend/husband to try green monsters? I have yet to hear about a man that has tried them! If you have been successful- or haven’t- leave a comment below and let me know! I need to know the secret.

I spent the morning baking for my next media related review for Glo Bakery. I will admit, it is pretty stressful knowing that someone is going to be reviewing my baked goods for the world to see!

I also had a few setbacks in the kitchen today and I was feeling a bit stressed!

I made my Zucchini Breakfast Power Muffins and today I used paper liners. Big mistake! The muffins stuck to the liners like nobody’s business.

Then I realized I was out of lemons right when I was in the thick of things, so I had to leave and jet to the store.

And in my 3rd batch I realized I was out of soy yogurt! I had to use soy milk in a pinch. I know it doesn’t seem like much, but when it all happens within a span of 3 hours it can get a bit hectic. :)

Luckily I made sure to have some fun on the side:

I had to taste each muffin of course!

Flax ‘n Gl’oat Power Muffin:

Carrot ‘n Raisin Spice Muffins:

Sweet ‘n Spicy Zucchini Breakfast Muffins:

IMG_9981

Yes, I ate all three muffins! Plus 1 more. Luckily they are super healthy right? :)

Unfortunately though, I have to re-bake all 3 muffins. The zucchini ones are stuck to the paper and I don’t feel good delivering these! So Eric will get the rest. The carrot ones flopped too I think because I cut the recipe in half and used soy milk. And lastly I didn’t like how the carob chips tasted in my flax muffins. 3 stikes, I’m out! :( I guess I will be back to the drawing board tomorrow.

Needless to say I spoiled my lunch and I am not hungry one bit! Opps!

I also did some more organizing in the kitchen while I was waiting for them to cook:

Eric installed this spice rack for the drawer, so I started to put my spices in it. Don’t worry I have more than that, I just took this picture before I filled it up :)

I also organized another cupboard and changed the height of the shelves. I made the bottom two shorter to fit all our supplements and medicine, and then I put the cookbooks on top.

NEW CHALLENGE ALERT!

projectglow

Just when you thought you couldn’t handle one more challenge, Caitlin and I have teamed together to rock one out!

This time the goal is Glowing and healthy skin for the summer!

Caitlin wrote me last week looking for a glowing skin challenge! She was sick and tired of dull and sallow looking skin. I think her skin is gorgeous, but of course we are always our own worst critic, right?

See Caitlin’s post this morning for all the details!

Untitled-51 Day: 33 (April 28, 2009): Today we are going to work on the legs! I hadn’t done some traditional leg lifts in a long time so I thought it would be fun to add to the BBBC Challenge!

Here is me doing the traditional leg lift. I did 3 sets of 50 per leg.

IMG_9972

And here I am doing inner thigh lifts. A reader named Andrea recently reminded me that strong inner thigh muscles prevent running injuries. So I am bringing them back baby! :) I did 3 sets of 50 per leg.

IMG_9970

And no, my downward dog has not gotten any better as of late:

IMG_9968

DOH!

Damnit, I want to be flexible! I hope with time I can get better at it. I don’t know why this one pose bothers me so much! haha.

On this afternoon’s agenda:

  • Treadmill workout
  • Finish filing taxes online (I am getting a hefty return this year from my tuition in 2008- sweet!)
  • Mail in GST Application
  • Find headshots for interview
  • Input receipts
  • Shop 4 A Cause
  • Read all comments from this AM post

Hope you are having a GLOWING day!!

My husband has no problems at all with the Green Monsters. I make them with banana, kale, almond milk, flax meal and frozen strawberries and he drinks them right down. He’ll eat pretty much anything I put in front of him, except maybe eggplant. He has a very different view of food. He doesn’t LOVE it like I do or really enjoy the eating process itself. He says that if he could push a button when he’s hungry and instantly be full, he would. Not me, I love food WAAAAYYY too much;)
Looking forward to more details on the Glow Challenge!!!

I made a GM, took it outside, the hubby had a sip…I said isn’t that good? He said “Yeah, that’s doesn’t taste like spinach at all.” Then later I offered to make him a smoothie and I said “Can I put some spinach in it?” “No thanks,” he said. GAH! I SHOULD have put some in the chocolate shake I made him the other day. HAHAHA Oh well!

I’m lovin’ the Project Glow challenge you have going with Caitlin. ^^

& I also came across a Q posted on her blog about making the Green Monster the night before and drinking it the next morning. I’m usually pressed for time and don’t wanna scare the roomies early morning, so will the GM lose some of it’s nutritional value if I don’t drink it right away? Since you seem to be the GM expert in the blogworld, I would really appreciate your expertise(?). (:

My boyfriend was pretty scared when I made my first green monster. He gave me a look that said “you’re going to DRINK THAT?” It was hilarious! I don’t think he’ll be trying them anytime soon.

What a neat challenge! I already use Apricot Scrub daily (with tea tree oil cleanser once or twice a week if I’m starting to break out) and since switching to that my skin has been much clearer and healthier looking.

I couldn’t pay my husband to try a GM! He does make a pretty good smoothie, though!

Sorry to hear your baking didn’t turn out the way you wanted it too! All 3 muffins sure look delish!

I make a GM just about every morning, only I have always called mine the Green Goddess!!! I can always get my fiance to try a sip out of the ones I make (I used kale or spinach, a banana, mango, and chopped almonds), but whenever I make “extra” and pour some in a glass for him he says he probably won’t finish it. However, I tricked him into drinking half of one today when I “shared” mine with him!! I just kept handing him the glass after I took a few sips :)

Poor Pete is forced to drink them on the weekends..lol

I make them pretty sweet though. I use spinach, strawberries, yogourt, & milk. Who wouldn’t love the taste of that???

i asked my fiancee to try a green monster i made, and he just looked at it and was like, “no way!” but then when i dared him to and peer-pressured him a bit he tried it and liked it!

I talked to my boyfriend about green monsters before I started trying them and he said he’d tried some sort of smoothie awhile that was similar. I think it was store-bought, but it had spinach and flaxseed and a ton of fiber…he loved it but said it gave him the worst gas. And I got to hear about that in excruciating detail…so I’m not sure if I *want* him trying these again! (btw, if anyone wants to try a delicious concoction, I use baby spinach, plain Greek yogurt and a little bit of low-fat vanilla yogurt, plus a banana and splashes of cranberry juice and blueberry-pomegranate juice for antioxidant power!)

James took a little sip of one I made and described it as “tart”, “bitter”, “grainy” and “not that bad!” I’m not sure how the first three adjectives led to that conclusion but I’ll take it!

All of those muffins look wonderful! I haven’t convinced my fiancé yet, but oh well, more for me.

Yes my husband drinks green smoothies! The first time I made one he looked at me like I had gone off the deep end. But I told him, “just try one sip! I promise, that’s it!”. And he admitted, “hey that’s not that bad!”. And now he is a proponent of green smoothies. :) He’s tried a wide variety of green smoothies I have made, as well as green protein smoothies and more.

I think the secret is just that Ross eats different now than he did before we met (he worked at a lot of fast food places, and thus ate fast food), so he’s gotten used to trusting me and all the new foods I put in front of him.

My husb drinks the Green Monsters — I put orange juice in his to make it a little more palatable, but I’ve been slowly cutting back and he doesn’t notice. His mom was a super earthy crunchy hippie growing up, so he can out-granola me when it comes to healthy food. :-)

Today I made him just a Monster for breakfast — for some reason when I used blueberries, his stayed pink. Mine, on the other hand, turned BLACK, probably because I didn’t add the OJ and cow’s milk yogurt to mine. Maybe that’s the key is to make pink smoothies and just gradually up the greens quotient. Or maybe don’t serve them in a clear glass. ;-)

My boyfriend drinks green smoothies all the time. I always make a double batch for him! He is kind of a health and exercise nut though, and his family used to have a juicer when he was little. He’s sort of immune to the green monster, unless I put bananas in them…he hates bananas! =)

Are you kidding??? He is worse than i am… I caught him browsing at the kale area of the grocery store recently after he read your smoothie recipe(we do 2-3 cups spinach per smoothie now). He is a serious food blogger reader too. I send him the fun postings of the day at work… But we love food so it’s a natural thing because the food bloggers are all so creative with putting things together…not processed stuff… And grocery shopping, wandering the isles is something we have done forever as a hobby..(married 25 years) I would say that is one way to get them intersted.. Take them to the high end (Whole Foods, Trader Joes, your local cool grocery) with you for fun. You should see the combos i make for him in his oats/bran…Chia seeds every morning as of last week! I think what might help in the green monsters is that we use JRobb whey protein (1/2 scoop)in there too, so it really tastes like a wonderful shake. The stevia… Maybe you could let your guy have a pack of sweetener in there to break him into the habit.. It helps!

angela,

i’ve been reading your blog for some time now, and i don’t think i’ve ever commented, but i have got to give it to you girl! you really have something going here. the difference between your blog and every other food/fitness blogger out there is that you blog for the rest of us while everyone else blogs for themselves. your blog is outstanding! the work you put into it really shines through. keep it up, and keep promoting yourself, because you really do have something here.

Haha, cracking me up. I did get the BF to have a smoothie with a little kale and flax in it, but it was TOTALLY hidden, as in there was way more of other stuff than of the greens, you could barely even see them. Would love to hear other people’s strategies though!
