Remember the blueberries I was talking about this morning? Well, that is what a lot of blueberries does to a green monster! It creates a crazy gel-like substance that I had to eat with a spoon this afternoon. A bit gross!
There weren’t any chia seeds in this so I know it’s not from that.
I felt like I was conducting a mad science experiment.
Tonight, I also made 10 batches of green monsters! I am preparing to say goodbye to my food processor and blender tomorrow morning as I am sending them back to Kitchen Aid (defective). I will be without them for about 10 days or longer. Ouch!
So, like any other GM obsessed person, I had to stock up!
You are looking at 10 days supply- or 1 day if I should go on a crazy GM spree (it’s tempting).
I think I am going to bring the two shakers with me to Leah’s wedding so I can have one each morning. :) Our hotel room has a fridge, so I will put them in that when we arrive and just use the mini cooler to transport them during the 2.5 hour drive.
I can’t believe I haven’t done this before!
It took me under 25 minutes to make 10 of these GM’s and that included steaming the greens.
I stuck with the same recipe for most of it:
- Spinach
- Dandelion
- Amazing Grass Wheat Grass
- Banana
- Garlic
- Chia seeds
And for the last 3, I added Amazing Grass Chocolate Meal Infusion.
If you are tight on time, I highly suggest making a whole week’s worth in advance! It saves so much time and cleaning! I think I am going to do this on a regular basis.
Now let’s just hope my new appliances arrive quickly!!!

I’ve gotta get back to my crazy baking spree. There are sugar cookies all over my kitchen.
Tomorrow is Eric’s birthday (he took the day off work), so stay tuned for all the birthday fun! We’re actually going out for dinner- first time in MONTHS we have gone out to eat.
PS- Just found out that I am supposed to give Eric a paper gift (traditionally anyways) for our 1st wedding anniversary on August 31st. IDEAS, please???!!! lol.
What a great idea with stocking up on the green smoothies! Hope they all stay good for you!
SO weird about the blueberries. I can honestly say that I’ve never come across that problem when adding them in. I always freeze my blueberries though, so maybe that makes the difference?
xxoo

Oh wow…talk about Gm’s galore!
The only paper gift I can think of is a magazine? Thanks for letting me know though; our first anniversary is in September.
My husband likes to sketch so I gave him fancy notebooks (Moleskin) for our first anniversary last year.
Ours is this Sunday! I gave my husband a modern version of a framed picture…I uploaded over 200 pictures to a digital frame for his office. Family pics, pics of us, wedding pics, and pics of our puppy. I made a paper flower to decorate the gift to keep with the paper theme. Good luck!
The super-thick GM thing happened to me when I added pumpkin to mine. I don’t like having to drive and eat with a spoon at the same time!
I like the idea of making a buttload at a time. I always wondered if the spinach would get funky….
I actually like that super-thick texture! A really big straw might help suck it up if you’re on the go… hehe.
I like the book and the list. Maybe go to chapters and buy a journal and write something nice in it and make it a tradition every year. You could slide tickets in it to a movie or a conservation area or what ever and then post them back into the book after as a keep sake. Ha if you wanted to be funny you could put the ticket stubs for the drycleaning in it for him to pick up. Make it fun and keep it simple. Always the best way. I wouldn’t do that much with the paper just a little something for the tradition and then buy him something he will like for himself.
So you can make green monsters ahead of time and they’ll still be good? I never knew that… I figured they would seperate and get really thick and sludgy. Happy (almost) Anniversary to you!
I saw the most awesome 1st ann gift that I’m going to give to my h2b once we get to the year.. It was a wooden box and inside was recipe cards and on each recipe card was the description of a day that was special to the wife (i think it started off with the first time they met), I’m going to start off with 20 or so cards, and as your married life progresses you just keep writing in about all the special days that you have together.. Mushy I know, but it’s a sweet idea and involves the papier..
ps. That GM looks NASTY! — but as they say, sometimes the things that are the best for us, don’t always look the nicest..
Is it just my computer or is everyone else seeing this site in html format?? I tried going on yesterday and it said the site was done for a bit.. ??? Maybe its just me..
Holy cow that is one thick GM!! and a huge supply to keep you going! I know you would come up with something great! Never thought of doing that myself as I have some pretty early mornings and it could help out. Let me know how they hold up for you.
For our 1st Anniversary my husband gave me a card (paper) and a note saying that I was getting Lasik surgery for my eyes! At that time I wore contacts and glasses. It was actually the best gift ever! Five years later and I can still see crystal clear! He always says he gave me the “gift of sight” to funny.
For our 1st wedding anniversary, since I had not yet finished our wedding album, I madely rushed to finish it (I scrapbooked it)and presented it to my husband. I also had some nice prints blown up and framed them in one of those cluster frames from Michael’s. I decorated the frame matte with vellum quotes and other fun wedding-related things.
For our recent first anniversary I made him a scrapbook documenting our first year of marriage together…the dog, the house, the get togethers! He loved it, and I made it on my apple computer and it arrived in a few days!
i would caution you about saving GMs for too long. the shelf life may not be as long as you expect. also, and i have NOTHING to back this up, but doesn’t the nutritional value drop after the juice has been exposed to oxygen for prolonged periods of time?
so, tickets are fun. gift cert for dinner is also easy and fun.
the other 1st anny gift is a clock (or watch).
happy 1 year!
Good for you for preparing!
However, I would suggest freezing some of those until the day before you need them (to thaw them out)…They might get a little funky before the 10 days are up! Adding a bit of lemon juice might help preserve them longer too…Good luck!
Money is made out of paper! And it’s always the right size and color.
1st anniversary gift suggestion. My husband framed out wedding license for our paper anniversary. Now it’s a family heirloom to pass on. Love your website.
I always make my GM’s the night before because it’s too noisy in the morning to blend them up. The results…Super Yum!!! I just shake it up a bit before I drink it :)
That’s a great idea! I get up super early to head to work and don’t want to wake anyone with the blender. I’ll make mine ahead of time from now on so I can get some great greens in to start my day.
I still had the slip of paper that my husband wrote his number on when we first started dating – I framed that with a picture- do you have anything like that from when you first started dating?
