Glo Bar Giveaway!

July 12, 2011

‘I don’t have a goal weight, I have a goal life.’

I heard this quote while watching an interview with an Extreme Weight Loss participant and it really clicked with me!

Along my journey, I realized that a certain number on the scale wouldn’t magically make my life perfect. For years I chased this number while becoming more and more unhappy.

I now focus on creating the life that I want, by taking small steps each day. It’s about how I feel each day when I wake up. If I wake up happy and eager to start the day, I know I’m on the right track. A certain number can’t dictate my happiness, but I can make changes in my life to feel my best.

While, I’m busy baking up orders today, I thought it would be fun to have a Glo Bar giveaway!

I used to be concerned about weight. I was 14 when I started to freak about my size, life and apperance. I really hated getting dressed, weighing myself and eventually eating to much. I have learned in the past 5 years that my life does NOT need to revolve around my weight or food. Yes I can enjoy cooking, baking and being active, but I do NOT need to control every apect of life. I learned to let go and let God.

“Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go.”

A lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t fit everyone into some box of what is the perfect weight or the “ideal” weight. Really, weight doesn’t matter. The way you look at food and the way you treat things like exercise is what really matters. :) Here’s my story:

This one I discovered in high school from the song Kissing You by Des’ree.
“Pride can stand a thousand trials, the strong will never fall, but watching stars without you….my soul cries.”
It always reminds me that no matter what I’m going through or how I am feeling I have amazing people in my life to always help me through it and encourage me to stay strong.

I was thinking about this quote during my run today, and I always find it appropriate in my life, even saying it out loud helps :)

“Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can, and
the wisdom to know the difference.”

something I’ve learned along the way is to not let others mkae fun of you because you are healthy, or in my case, dont eat meat. IGNORE THEM!!You are taking good care of your body!!! Be proud!!!

One of my favorite sayings is: “You can’t give away what you haven’t got.” This was told to me by a counselor when I was going through a particularly stressful time in my life in the context of taking time out for myself to recharge spiritually and emotionally instead of putting everyone else’s needs before my own, to the point of being burned out on life.

This helps me on my rough days: Until the race is run, until the journey is done, until the crown is won, I will press on with my eyes toward the Lord. :) He gives me strength. What brings you strength?

I try to live by the quote, “Don’t be discouraged by taking three steps forwards and two steps back. After all, it’s still one more step forward, isn’t it? That’s something to be proud of.”

‘The past has no power over the present”. I use this as a reminder not to obsess about past mistakes or time wasted.

An excerpt from the poem I wrote, titled “The Way She Sees Me”:

In my daughter’s eyes, it does not matter how much I weigh.
All that matters is that I’m fast enough to keep up, have enough energy to play endless games, and at the end of the day, strong enough to rock her to sleep.

something i’ve learned, especially recently, is that a shift in my own attitude can turn a not so great situation into something much more bearable.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that life is too short to be far away from those you love. Visit often and spend time with your friends and family as much as possible. That life lesson is based off a John Mayer song, 3×5. It’s about living in the moment and being with the people you care about during life experiences!

I’ve learned you just need to love yourself. If you can’t, you’ll never be happy or satisfied with yourself! And… Enjoy the little things in life, they’re what really count.

My favorite quote is from Randy Pausch in The Last Lecture: “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”

It reminds me to keep pushing because it’ll only make me stronger.

“Failure is not defeat until YOU STOP TRYING.” I’ve been pursuing a particular running goal for two years now, without success. Every time I think about quitting and doing something else, I think about this. And I enter another race. One of these days, that elusive time will be mine!

Thanks for doing this giveaway!

A lesson I’ve learned in the last year or so is that we are never stagnant, we are always changing. And hopefully changing for the better. I hope I never feel perfect – that would be boring!
