Hello there!
Today I am running on green and green only. I was up until 1:30am last night. You only live once right?
This morning I pulled out all the stops…
For Breakfast, I had a ‘Carrot Camo’ Green Monster went 3 cups spinach, 1.25 cups almond milk, 1/2 cup shredded carrots, 1 tsp cinnamon, 3 sprigs parsley, 1/2 frozen banana, and 1 tbsp coconut butter.
It was a Carrot Camo because the carrots were camouflaged in the GM and the GM was camo amongst the plants!
Green Monsters cannot be beat for energy.
The leaves were being sticky fingers once again…
haha.
and a Run Glo Bar:
If there was ever a day for Raw Maca it was today!
After 15 mins of digesting, I headed out on a run to wake myself up. My goal was to run each mile faster than the previous with a strong finish.
The run:
- Distance: 4 miles
- Time: 33:30 mins
- Avg Pace: 8:21 min/mile
- Avg heart rate: 161 bpm
Mile splits:
- Mile 1: 8:49
- Mile 2: 8:26
- Mile 3: 8:24
- Mile 4: 7:47 (so proud of this mile!)
I felt awesome after this run. It was really tough and I wanted to give up after the first 1.5 miles, but I told myself ‘you are so much stronger than you think’ and I made it through! Sometimes the body just needs to be woken up a bit. Also helpful- new music. I am loving ‘Billionaire’by Travie McCoy this week! It’s such a FUN song.
It was super humid out and I was sooo sweaty when I got home. Cold shower felt amazing, especially on my muscles.
A lot of you have been asking me about negative splits, so I am going to address some of your questions in my next post. Some of the questions I will cover are:
- What is a negative split?
- How do I run a negative split?
- Why does it work?
- What are the benefits/are they for me?
Lunch was delicious and featured Rawlicious leftovers!!!
The Raaaaaaawwitch:
A little daylight goes a long way with food photography!
The onion bread is phenomenal. I have no idea what is in this raw onion bread (besides onions of course), but it is out of this world.
mmmm. It was a little soggy today but still awesome.
I also had 1 can of Amy’s Split Pea Soup with Paprika and fresh parsley:
I better get back to work…I am working on a couple big custom orders today. Check out how cute these ‘Puppy Love’ Glo Bars are for a local vets office.
Check out this giveaway for the Operation Beautiful book.
See you later alligators!

GREAT job on your run!
The Puppy Love bars are indeed adorable :)
What a great run and a great lunch!!!
Oooh and I just read about the cafe your visited last night…everything looked AMAZING!
I am feeling very refreshed after reading this post — the Carrot Camo, the productive run — as I sit here in my basement drinking coffee ;)
Your onion sandwich looks amazing! The photo you took last night did not do it justice. God bless natural daylight for photography, eh?
hahah I know I thought last night’s pictures of the rawitch were so gross looking!
Dang, lady, killer splits!
I think I’m going to try carrot in my next green monster! They’re so versatile like the spinach – you can slip them into so much without noticing. I always toss a few into homemade spaghetti sauce too.
PS – you should totally look up the song “I Got the Magic in Me” by B.O.B. I love running to it, and it kind of seems up your alley. Just a thought!
I love the magic song!!! obsessed!
Long sweaty run are my favorite!
I was addicted to Live Organic Food Bar in the Annex when I lived in Toronto…. it was right by my work. But i lived two minutes from Rawlicious which opened right after i loved to Ottawa! I might not have left if it had opened before! I tried it last time i visited and it was amazing.
I prefer the Mike D Remix version of Billionaire with Bruno Mars & B.E.T.
Super fun song!!
mmmm I need it!!!!
Green monsters have gotten me through some seriously low energy times! One sip and everything just seems better, and most importantly, I seem more awake!! :)
I know arent they awesome?
If I didn’t know better I would think the bread was meat!
Great job on the run! I have my swimmers do negative splits quite often. It helps them build their endurance, learn how to pace their races and hopefully build up some aerobic strength. :)
That Onion looks so pretty and delicious.
I don’t know if pretty is the right word to describe bread, but that’s the word that came to mind when a saw it :) YUM
It is pretty! :) I agree.
Wow 4 miles that fast…yea I need to get to that stage
The Billionaire song is constantly in my head and I agree it is so motivating. I’m working on getting back to my previous running pace and this song has helped pick me up on more than one occasion.
My green monsters are never this beautifully green! Sometimes, on my blog, they’re even BROWN! But that’s with added cocoa :) Anyway, I am most definitely going to need to try my hand at this delicious-sounding and -looking combination!
I have been using a TON of spinach lately to use up the CSA stuff so maybe that is why they are extra green? :)
Hi Angela…I have to tell you–you are amazing. I love your blog–I found you after googling Green Monsters (I heard the term someplace, can’t remember where). I started doing GMs this week and I. AM. LOVING. IT. I can’t believe how full I stay and how good I feel!
Just wanted to tell you you’re making a difference… :)
Thanks so much for this nice comment!
Hi Angela!
I felt the need to comment on your website because ever since I discovered it a couple of weeks ago I have been excited to read every post. You are truly inspiring, not only in your attitude about health and fitness but also in the exciting, refreshing, and plain delicious way that you make healthy food AWESOME food. I started a blog today (i never thought that would happen!) and am excited to see where that takes me in my journey to make myself healthier and, most importantly, the happiest I can be. I have been a chronic yo yo dieter all my life and those days are over. No longer am I going to be cutting out carbs or depriving myself of things that are healthy for me because of the newest diet plan. This is a refreshing and invigorating realization. By the way- after a a run today i had a wonderful breakfast of steel cut oats with “banana soft serve” (to die for) and sunflower seeds, coconut, and blueberries. Yesterday I had overnight oats. I keep bookmarking your recipes. I think your healthy habits are rubbing off on me! Thank you from hundreds of miles away. I may never be the same :-)
Thank you so much! I am happy you enjoy the blog :)
I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now, and I finally tried my very first Green Monster today. I was craving chocolate but needed some greens, so I threw in cocoa powder, peanut butter, and cinnamon in with the regular GM ingredients. Amazing!! Can’t wait to start trying other variations.
whohoo!

New music definitely helps keep me going! Even “new” old music. “Everybody” by the Backstreet Boys came on when I was working out earlier and I forgot how high energy it is!
Love your Blog!!!
Great run, I wish my runs looked like that on paper. Not so much, I am just a beginner. Great information to store for the future!!! :)
Everyone starts somewhere! I was running 1 minute at a time when I started :)
