Carrot Camo

July 14, 2010

Hello there!

Today I am running on green and green only. I was up until 1:30am last night. You only live once right?

This morning I pulled out all the stops…

IMG_2485

For Breakfast, I had a  ‘Carrot Camo’  Green Monster went 3 cups spinach, 1.25 cups almond milk, 1/2 cup shredded carrots, 1 tsp cinnamon, 3 sprigs parsley, 1/2 frozen banana, and 1 tbsp coconut butter.

IMG_2487

It was a Carrot Camo because the carrots were camouflaged in the GM and the GM was camo amongst the plants!

IMG_2489

Green Monsters cannot be beat for energy.

The leaves were being sticky fingers once again…

IMG_2491

haha.

and a Run Glo Bar:

IMG_2520

If there was ever a day for Raw Maca it was today!

After 15 mins of digesting, I headed out on a run to wake myself up. My goal was to run each mile faster than the previous with a strong finish.

IMG_1811

The run:

  • Distance: 4 miles
  • Time: 33:30 mins
  • Avg Pace: 8:21 min/mile
  • Avg heart rate: 161 bpm

Mile splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:49
  • Mile 2: 8:26
  • Mile 3: 8:24
  • Mile 4: 7:47 (so proud of this mile!)

I felt awesome after this run. It was really tough and I wanted to give up after the first 1.5 miles, but I told myself ‘you are so much stronger than you think’ and I made it through! Sometimes the body just needs to be woken up a bit. Also helpful- new music. I am loving ‘Billionaire’by Travie McCoy this week! It’s such a FUN song.

It was super humid out and I was sooo sweaty when I got home. Cold shower felt amazing, especially on my muscles.

IMG_1821

A lot of you have been asking me about negative splits, so I am going to address some of your questions in my next post. Some of the questions I will cover are:

  • What is a negative split?
  • How do I run a negative split?
  • Why does it work?
  • What are the benefits/are they for me?

Lunch was delicious and featured Rawlicious leftovers!!!

The Raaaaaaawwitch:

A little daylight goes a long way with food photography!

IMG_2493

The onion bread is phenomenal. I have no idea what is in this raw onion bread (besides onions of course), but it is out of this world.

IMG_2494

mmmm. It was a little soggy today but still awesome.

IMG_2496

I also had 1 can of Amy’s Split Pea Soup with Paprika and fresh parsley:

I better get back to work…I am working on a couple big custom orders today. Check out how cute these ‘Puppy Love’ Glo Bars are for a local vets office.

See you later alligators!

Only 15 minutes to digest?! I’m impressed. You must have a tummy of steel!!

I had the same battle this morning but I used an episode of True Blood on my ipod to motivate my legs. Hott vampires make me run faster :)

You’re right – that sandwich looks amazing in good light! Last night I was thinking “okay, sure” – but today it looks fabulous.
Good job on the run! I’m looking forward to reading your post about negative splits. I tried to focus on “ending well” in my run yesterday, and beating my previous lap each time, but it wasn’t systematic.

Your GM this morning sounds wonderful… i wish I had one right now! It’s pushing 90* here today and it sounds pretty refreshing.

What’s the hottest temp you’re willing to run in ? It’s 90* here and I decided to wait till this afternoon… I have a slight heah ache and I’ve already had (only2:30pm) over 60 oz of water ?! How can I be dehydrated??

wow that is a hot run! I don’t think I would be up for those temps. I have done it before and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I think I need to start making some afternoon snacks with maca in them:) On a side note, I finally bought a jar of coconut oil and used it in the shower this morning…my skin feels AMAZING! Plus I just love the smell of coconut:)

Question about the camelbak? Given you’ve been running with it for awhile now, do you find it less cumbersome when you run? I’ve been thinking of getting one, but am afraid it would be too uncomfortable.

I have never thought it was really annoying…it was actually much less annoying than I thought it would be. It doesnt shift much, at least the small 1.5 litre I have anyways!

To make this morning’s gm did you use a blender or a juicer? Also do you add maca to anything else and if so how much? Thanks

You are really fast! You should try a 5k. I use them as tempo runs while training for other races, but they’re usually faster than a usual tempo run because of my adrenaline!

Someone already asked, but I was just wondering the same question: Where did you get that cute workout tank top?
Any other fitness apparel store recommendations?
