Break For Brunch

March 7, 2010

Landy got the cold shoulder yesterday!

IMG_8604

For THIS!!!!!!!!

IMG_8607

Our winters are pretty grey here in Ontario, so to see the sun like this is always very welcomed after a loooooong winter.

There was ice on our driveway, but luckily no ice on the roads for the first time in a long while.

Since I didn’t have any pace tracking abilities (my Polar HRM is broken), I set a goal of running without stopping to walk. I need to have goals on my runs or I fizzle out!

When I started my run I faced a COLD, strong wind. It took my breath away for the first 10 minutes. By minute 13, a single drop of sweat hit my nose and I knew I was going to make it. ;)

The run:

  • Distance: a hilly 4.6 miles
  • Total time: 42:33 mins.
  • Avg pace: 9:13

I sprinted the last 100 metres as if I was finishing a race. It makes for a much more exciting ending rather than my usual fizzling out to a slow, dying crawl.

I also ran without my knee sleeves again and had no knee pain. It is so freeing not to wear those annoying neoprene knee sleeves, I tell you! I feel a lot faster without them.

The rest of my day was devoted to laundry, cleaning, writing articles, and emails. It was a necessary evil catch up day.

Today is a FUN day however…

I am meeting 17 lovely ladies for brunch + shopping in Toronto!! We are going to a NEW vegan restaurant this time. I am excited to see how it compares to Fresh…After brunch we are going to cruise along Queen Street West and hit up a few stores.

I had this green monster to tie over my grumbling tummy…

IMG_1887

In the green monster: 1 cup hemp milk, 2 cups spinach, 1 frozen banana, 1 tablespoon cashew butter (so good in GMs!), Amazing Grass wheatgrass powder, ice. Mmmmmmmm…perfecto.

Bringing a box of my favourite homemade cookies for the ladies…

IMG_1881

Oh! Almost forgot. I have a question for my lovely US readers…

What are the essential US stores I need to hit up while in Florida…clothing stores… fitness stores…foodie stores…certain brands of food…etc…all suggestions welcome! :)

Off I go! See you later for the recap.

There’s a Whole Foods and a giant DSW in Naples! I’ve only been to Naples a few times to visit family, but the place is absolutely PACKED with stores, restaurants (most of them not chain restaurants, woohoo!), movie theatres, and even has a nice outside mall! Plus, the beach is just a few miles away. I loooove it there :D

Although I’m not from Florida (I’m from Portland), I always recommend Outlet stores! Always the best deals :) I especially like the Nike Outlet, Columbia Outlet, and GAP outlet. Enjoy shopping!

I live in Toronto But I go to Florida often and Buffalo monthly to shop!
You must go to ROSS, Marshalls, T.J Maxx and Target! we don’t have any of those stores….you’ll love em.
Also, The lululemon in Orlando is cheaper than the one here ;)

OMG I didn’t know you were in Ontario! I would have loved to have joined the 17 of you for your new vegan restaurant adventure. I was just lamenting on another food blogger’s blog about how I know no bloggies in TO to enjoy the restaurants with. BF and I usually frequent Fressen when we’re in the city and in need of something fresh and vegan.

Oh btw, this is my first comment but I’ve been following for a while. I’ve been dying to make your baked doughnuts from last May but still have not gotten around to finding a doughnut pan. I may have to make an online purchase from Golda’s but I’m afraid it’ll result in a bunch of other stuff going into my cart.

Ft. Lauderdale area: Clothes – so many possibilities honestly! Try going to Sawgrass Mills Mall. It’s in a town called Sunrise, not TOO far from Ft. Lauderdale. It’s an Outlet mall thats out of this world!
Food – Whole Foods, Nutrtions’mart
Restaurants (vegan/vegan options) – Sublime, Seasons 52, Pizza Fusion. Those three are the only ones I’ve tried and they were all really awesome. Here is a link to veg South Florida that gives you all of these options for Ft. Lauderdale area: http://www.vegsouthflorida.com/broward.html

Awesome run! So jealous of your Toronto blogger lunch, I’d love to meet up with some other Canadian blogging girls! I love Sawgrass Mills (massive outlet mall in Ft. Lauderdale!), Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Ross for Less as well as any outlet shopping! I find the Banana Republic outlet is awesome and SO SO much cheaper than BR here. I go down to Seattle to buy most of my professional clothes there!

Naples is awesome and you will love it. Definitely hit the Outlets in Estero. They are great, pretty and have a TON of parking! Also, there is a great store called World Market. They have furniture, international foods, beauty products, dishes, alcohol, everything! It’s the best and sadly they aren’t everywhere in the US. There is also a huge “Super Target” in the same shopping plaza with a Starbucks inside and lots of fresh produce! The two stores are located right off the main highway, Route 75, at the Tarpon Bay Plaza. There is also another AMAZING shopping center in Naples called Coconut Point. Def worth checking out…. Hope this helps!

I found when I went on a trip to New York, the Whole Foods had a wonderful selection of baked vegan muffins, cookies, etc. I don’t find this selection in the Toronto Wholefoods….really yummy!

Hey Angela,
Sorry to hear your watch broke! Technology can be so frustrating! I just thought I would let you know that I used the Garmin Forerunner 305 today during my long run (10 miles) and I think I may be in love. It’s a larger watch, but it gives you the best data display! It also comes with a heart rate moniter if you are into that. They are on sale at amazon.com for around $150 USD.

Have a great week!
