Happy Halloween!
Before I get to part 1 of the giveaway, I want to share a last-minute Halloween idea.
I present to you: Spooky Shakes…
They are more homely than scary, but let’s just go with it!
I spotted this on Martha and I thought it was a cute idea. To make: all you do is melt a tiny amount of chocolate (about 1-2 tbsp) and then paint chocolate ghost faces on the inside of the glass using the end of a popsicle stick. Easy.
Place the glasses in the freezer or fridge to set the chocolate. For the shake, I blended vegan vanilla ice cream (I love almond or coconut varieties), with a splash of almond milk and some ice, served with a cinnamon stick. You could even make a healthier shake by blending frozen bananas with almond milk. The chocolate faces stay intact thanks to the cold smoothies.
Now, for part 1 of the giveaway…
Today, I’m celebrating YOU – the kick-butt, Green Monster chuggin, recipe-lovin’ Oh She Glows community! On October 31, 2008, I started the blog on a complete whim, not thinking I would ever have the attention span to stick with it, but here I am 4 years later still smashing my head against the keyboard daily and chasing my dreams. I am so grateful for each and every one of you who read the blog each day and my hope is that you find as much inspiration here as I’ve found in all of you.
Now, to celebrate!
1) Blendtec Total Blender & Twister Jar
Blendtec has been gracious enough to donate one of their coveted Total Blender Classic Wildside machines (picture above) valued at $454.95 USD! Whoa baby. I’ve reviewed the Blendtec before on the blog and I can attest that it’s a great machine.
About the blender: “Total Blender Classic Series® is the all-in-one appliance that makes smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, milkshakes, cappuccinos, margaritas, soups, sauces, bread dough, dressings, salsas, and more! It replaces up to 9 other appliances with one fast easy-to-use machine, at a fraction of the cost. This package includes the new precision tuned 4″ blade in the large nearly 3-quart total capacity BPA-free jar. The new large blade / large jar combination powers through tougher blending tasks and larger recipes with ease, and in less time.”
In addition to the blender, they are also giving away a Twister Jar (shown below) valued at $119.00 USD!

I tweeted too :D
If there were one piece of wisdom I could give to my younger self, it would be to not worry as much about disappointing others. I was always independent and would do my own thing no matter what, but I often carried around a huge burden of guilt if I worried I had let someone down even a tiny bit. Truth is, other people are far more forgiving then you fear. So apologize sincerely, make note of useful lessons (if any), but then let it go.
I would tell myself to become a veggie sooner in life.
Advice to my younger self: you know what you have to do, so do it.
i would encourage my younger self to travel as much as possible. and to eat(drink) my veggies.
The advice I would give myself is: Just because it’s the most prestigious thing doesn’t mean it’s the best thing!
Thanks for your wonderful blog and recipes. I love your outlook on life.
pinned some recipes too :)
I just pinned your fabulous recipe on Pinterest! Thanks :)
I would tell myself to not worry about what other people think. The only opinion that ultimately matters is your own! Love yourself
I would tell my younger self to stop worrying. Stop worrying about maybes and mights and coulds and just go with it. Worrying is such wasteful energy.
also – repinned your homemade crispy twix !!! mmmmm
I would tell myself to be more patient as a teenager when mom wanted to do things as a family to “build memories” because the time goes by so fast. Those memories are SO precious to me now!
This would be my advice to my 16-year-old self: Stop worrying about your future, it will come soon enough and nothing will go as planned but everything will be fine.
I would love to go back and tell my younger self to take advantage of the opportunities and experiences that are in front of you, you never know when they won’t be there anymore!
I would tell my younger self to have the confidence to be myself and to wait until my earlier 20s to get serious with boys.
If I could give my younger self a piece of advice or wisdom, it would be to embrace yourself! That includes who I am, what I enjoy, and not thinking or worrying so much about what others think. Do what’s best for me at that time and not always thinking so much of petty, non important things! Its much easier to see the big picture when you’re not living in it, of course. In addition, I’d take care of myself both mentally AND physically! Maybe a little more exercise and less sitting around…OK yes, thanks mom ;)
I’ve been admiring blendtec blenders for a while and I know from friends that they are great–especially for green drinks!! Thanks for the give-away!
I would tell my (much) younger self to treat your little sister BETTER, because you’re going to REALLY miss her later in life. You don’t know how much she looked up to you, wants to be like you, and to be with you until you are told years and years later. So don’t hide from her anymore. Don’t treat her like she has the dreaded ~~cooties~~! Talk to her and enjoy her because she’s the only sister you’ll ever have. She is SPECIAL and IMPORTANT to have in your life!
Re-tweeted!
I would have told myself to work harder, to be true to myself, and to not get bogged down in the little details that are unimportant. Oh, and to BE NICE to others because everyone has a battle of their own that they are fighting, even if we don’t know it or see it.
I also pinned under my recipes board!
I would tell myself to remember that everything works out in its own way, and that it’s the people around you who mean the most, and become aware of them and to start appreciating them sooner!
