Happy Halloween!
Before I get to part 1 of the giveaway, I want to share a last-minute Halloween idea.
I present to you: Spooky Shakes…
They are more homely than scary, but let’s just go with it!
I spotted this on Martha and I thought it was a cute idea. To make: all you do is melt a tiny amount of chocolate (about 1-2 tbsp) and then paint chocolate ghost faces on the inside of the glass using the end of a popsicle stick. Easy.
Place the glasses in the freezer or fridge to set the chocolate. For the shake, I blended vegan vanilla ice cream (I love almond or coconut varieties), with a splash of almond milk and some ice, served with a cinnamon stick. You could even make a healthier shake by blending frozen bananas with almond milk. The chocolate faces stay intact thanks to the cold smoothies.
Now, for part 1 of the giveaway…
Today, I’m celebrating YOU – the kick-butt, Green Monster chuggin, recipe-lovin’ Oh She Glows community! On October 31, 2008, I started the blog on a complete whim, not thinking I would ever have the attention span to stick with it, but here I am 4 years later still smashing my head against the keyboard daily and chasing my dreams. I am so grateful for each and every one of you who read the blog each day and my hope is that you find as much inspiration here as I’ve found in all of you.
Now, to celebrate!

I would tell my younger self to have fun and enjoy being a kid!
pinned about a million recipes, too!
Sweet young one: Listen to your mama . . . wear your sunscreen.
I would tell myself to enjoy the days of not having homework and spend more time outside!
i would tell myself to not get worked up over everyyyy siiiiingle little thing. while caring about the outcome of certain life events is understandable…there are just certain things we have no control over, and its fine to be okay with that :)
don’t worry about what other people think of you so much..
My advice to myself would be to never say never…if you do you are going to have to back track and say just kidding ALOT! Came for a pumpkin soup recipe…Brrrr it’s cold here. Can’t wait to make it . The pumpkins are roasting as I type.
I would tell myself to travel and enjoy yourself before you have commitments. Don’t grow up so fast and enjoy where you are now in your life. Each life stage has its own glories and challenges and its all part of the journey…
I would tell my 12 year old self to embrace her Mom and form a better relationship before it’s too late, despite the pains of growing up and losing her Dad.
“Believe people when they tell you how beautiful you are, and you’re far stronger than you think. Stop putting yourself down and finding flaws, and focus on the things that you enjoy. Do things for yourself, Kana. No matter how hard you try, you can’t please everyone and it’s not going to please yourself.”
I would advise myself to drink and eat healthy everyday. And that education is more important than boys at this stage in life! LOL!
I also tweeted!
Oh god, I’d tell myself that no matter what’s going on with your parents, it has nothing to do with you. Their problems are there’s – don’t let them screw you up for life! :/
I also tweeted the giveawa/blog!
Congrats on 4 years. I have shared your kale salad recipe with so many people and it is always a hit!! Words of advice to my younger self? Be thankful for what you have, and don’t waste energy comparing yourself to others.
If I could tell my 16-year-old self something, I think I might actually say “These really and truly are the best years of your life. You’re doing a great job, keep it up!”
I would like to tell my younger self, do not sell my Gameboy along with all the games i had. Also to eat more nutrient dense food.
My advice to my younger self would be “Liz, dear, don’t start smoking. That’s the WORST. IDEA. EVER. You don’t look cool, you smell. This doesn’t make you have more friends, it attracts bad ones, that will wind up stealing from you. This disgusting repulsive habit will cost you THOUSANDS that you could have used to take trips, buy a car, save for your first home (you’ll love it, really!) Take that awesome vacation for your honeymoon that won’t happen since you can’t afford it. (sorry honey-self) But don’t worry. If you mess up and start smoking entirely too young, you will eventually overcome the nasty habit, ditch the looser friends, and buy the house. Still waiting on that belated honey moon, but hey, we gotta have goals, oh also, love yourself for yourself. So, yeah, that’d be my advice to me, and somewhere among all the saving my young non-smoking self would have bought THIS EXACT BLENDER with her buckets of cash. =) (I Quit smoking, and turned to a healthy life style May 5th,2008 and have never looked back, I love your blog!!!!!! Liz)
Oh, and tweeted as well. ;)
I would tell my younger self to stop trying to grow up so quickly.
save money and don’t go to law school
