US Aurorae Yoga Mat Giveaway!

December 1, 2009

Happy DECEMBURRRRRR!

And quite chilly this morning too.

Well, November ended with a BANG! And December started with a BANG!

Let me explain…

Yesterday, I was on Craigslist looking for a Christmas gift for Eric. And guess what I came across? A beautiful couch- for a crazy good price. I immediately emailed the seller and asked if we could take a look at it. I figured that it would be gone already because good deals sell so fast on Craigslist, especially in Toronto!

It was a dark brown sectional couch with a chaise (always wanted one!) and it was only a few months old and in mint condition. The owner was selling it because they were moving and it didn’t fit in their new condo (it is a BIG couch!).

Eric stopped by on his way home from work and…

We bought our very first couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every couch we have had up to this point has been a hand me down which is absolutely awesome, but we have secretly been longing for a couch that fit our new family room. After looking at prices earlier this year, we knew we couldn’t afford one.

He was shocked that it wasn’t gone already. He had to drive all the way to his brother’s to pick up a van, then drive back and put 1 part of the couch in the van, then drop it off, and then drive all the way back to Toronto to pick up the rest!!! He didn’t get home until about 11:30 last night. Poor guy!!!! I was at home waiting anxiously for it to arrive. Luckily, S & B kept me company. ;)

We are absolutely in love with it:

IMG_7650

It’s incredibly soft and comfy…

IMG_7651

and will be great for entertaining!

IMG_7652 IMG_7654

…it is like brand new to us and our wallets are very happy. We figured that THREE lucky friends can crash on this couch at once! hahaha. ;) We are still university students at heart…

We will probably end up buying most of our furniture on Craigslist. You really can’t go wrong, 1) You save huge, and 2) You are recycling!! They have lots of cool antique pieces on Craigslist. Yes, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but it is so worth it. I also check out the FREE page a lot too! You’d be surprised how many people give away amazing things because they are in a rush.

The only thing we are not sure of is where to put our other brown couch. Right now it is here:

IMG_7662

and it looks kind of odd…but we were thinking of keeping it around for our Christmas party.

We also tried here:

IMG_7657

and it looked even more odd…

So we aren’t really sure what to do with it! Ideas????

I also want to find a coffee table off Craigslist as I don’t really like the one that is there now.

And why did Decemburrr start with a bang?

We have roofers here this morning and it sounds like an EARTHQUAKE in this house today! I swear they are going to fall through the roof on me. I woke up at 6am to BANG, BANG, BANG!!! I hit my alarm but it didn’t stop!

Congrats on the new couch! I’ve been checking Craigslist here and there for one for the hubby and I’s home. It’s such an awesome site!

I think that you should donate it to a charity. Since you have no use for it, nor does it seem to fit, I am sure there is someone out there who either cannot afford furniture or had something happen that they lost theirs. It is a great way to give back and pay your good fortune forward
:)

Also-I really like the Violet yoga mat!

What’s the material on your new couch? I love it! micro-fiber?

The brown couch.. I say Craigslist it! Your new couch is plenty big, and the old one is taking away from its beauty. :)

I think I’d choose the sea mist color. It would remind me to always be eco-friendly. Ocean is pretty too.

I would pick the Violet mat. Awesome giveaway by the way!

I would maybe use it as a spare couch in a guest room maybe? Or if you dont have the space for it maybe donate it to charity?

Have a great day!

My husband and I love craigslist! We got a brand new flat screen LCD TV on there. I almost felt like we were stealing it, it was so cheap.

What is opposite of the sectional besides the Christmas tree? Maybe the couch could go there. I also like the idea that some people have said about selling your couch!

I would chose the green mat (seamist). I’m a sucker for anything green:)

Do you have a bonus room in your house? Or even an extra guest bedroom you could turn into a den/zen retreat? I think that’s what I would do. But, if there wasn’t any more rooms in your house to put it in, I think I would either sell it on Craigslist or to a friend- if you ask around you’re bound to find someone who needs what you have. I think I would pick the ocean colored yoga mat.

I absolutely HATE trying to figure out what to do to get rid of usable things that I don’t want or need anymore. Filling up landfill space just doesn’t work for me!
But… I would offer the couch for sale on Craigslist first. If it doesn’t sell there after a week or so (two postings max), I would donate it to an organization that benefits battered women. (I’m sure the love in you and Eric’s home would radiate out into helping someone set up their home.)

Love the yoga mats. I’ve only ever had purple mats, so while I’m really drawn to the violet, I’d choose the calming seamist color.

I like the idea of hanging on to it through your party. I think afterwards, donating it would be best. Or try to sell it on Craigslist to make some extra cash! :D

I would get the black mat for my fiance. He hates using my hot pink mat! hehe…

The couches look SOOOOO comfy!! Congrats :)

Could you use the other one in another room? Or do you have family that could use it?

On the yoga mat–I’d def go with the violet!

Do you have another room where you could use a cute loveseat?? RECOVER IT!! All you need is a staple gun and some cute fabric, and just go to town :)

I love the ocean color… so soothing!!

First, is your coffee table from Ikea because I think my roomie and I have the same one?

What about putting the couch in your basement(if you have one) or your garage? It could make any area a random chillout place.

I really love your new couch. Its HUGE.

I would pick the violet yoga map because purple is my favorite color. Thanks for having a U.S. Giveaway! You’re so considerate!

I say sell your couch on Craigslist. Or you can always donate it to Salvation Army/Good Will/another charity you want to support!

I’d pick the “solar” colored mat. I’ve been obsessed with all things orange lately =).

Selling the couch on Craigslist is a good idea, but you could also move it to another “unexpected room.” A few years back, we had a flood in our apartment and ended up with our couch in our (large) kitchen and dining room area for at least a month. It was weird at first but we ended up liking being able to sit on a comfy couch and hang out while the other was cooking or doing dishes.

So, I say look around your house for out of the way places that it might work – a large entry way or hallway, perhaps?

And I love the solar mat – yellow is my favorite color. So cheery!

Would the couch fit in your bedroom? Maybe set up like a little reading nook?

And yoga mat: I like the seamist…. and the solar… and the violet… it’s hard to pick just one! :)

I would definately sell your couch on craigslist. My husband and I buy and sell things on craisglist and ebay all the time. Money in for the money that goes out. You’re so right about sifting through the crap. If you list your couch for a reasonable price, it will sell within hours easily. Then you have a few more dollars for another great find or an extra Christmas present!!! Best of luck

The seamist mat looks adorable

I say keep the couch backed up against the other one for your Christmas party, then maybe sell it on craigslist, too? I’ve always loved couches in the kitchen, if your kitchen is big enough – it’s where everyone gathers to talk, anyway!

I’d pick solar or violet!
