I added a bunch of green monster recipes over at Green Monster Movement last night, go on over and check em out! :)
I was up around 5:30 this morning tending to some Glo Bakery business. I’m a bit behind in my work so the next few mornings are going to be early ones to try and get caught up. My week started off like it should- with TWO healthy doses of green!
The sun is finally shining today. I hope it stays that way because I have yet to get out for a run since my 10 mile race!
Today’s green monster is not one I would replicate…
- 2 apricots (made it much too bitter!!!)
- 1/3 banana
- 1 scoop Amazing Grass Wheatgrass powder
- 1 squirt Kyolic garlic
- 1/3 cup watermelon (couldn’t even taste it :( )
- 3 cups spinach- lightly steamed
- 1 T chia seeds
- 4 cubes ice
It sure looked pretty but it was very bitter- even after I added 1/3 of a banana. I would not recommend using apricots unless you are willing to mask the bitterness with a ton of added fruit.

Funny story I tweeted about this weekend:
Eric made my green monster for me on Saturday since I was in such a rush. I drank it and it tasted nice and everything. AFTER, I finished my GM he told me ever so nonchalantly, ‘I couldn’t get the frozen peel off the banana so I just threw in the peel along with the banana.’
Oh. My. God.
I almost died!!!!!!!!!!!!
My stomach started to churn and I swear I had stomach pains from the peel. Maybe it was all psychological, but I was not happy knowing there was a black peel in my belly! GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Today’s question: What is the worst ingredient you’ve ever tried in a green monster?
See you this afternoon for the winner of the Neal Brother’s Contest!

ROFL the peel!!!! LOL.

I saw that tweet! That is too funny. Banana peel sounds worse than kiwi or mango peel (which still churns my stomach when I see it on other blogs).
Love those GM glasses too, so elegant ;)
Hilarious!!! That is totally something my husband would do too!!! He only likes fruit that he doesn’t have to cut up, wash, or peel lol.
I know you disagree, but I don’t care for cantaloupe in my GM which is ironic because it’s SO good fresh!
100% kale. Gross. Instead I use one kale leaf and a huge handful of spinach leaves to mask the bitterness. Angela, are you familiar with the book “Eat Right for Your Type?” I’ve had the thin volume of food lists for years and swear it makes a huge difference in my digestion and energy level. I choose all of my ingredients based on those lists. For each category (fruits, meat, veggies, grains, etc) there are three sections that divides the foods according to highly beneficial for your blood type, neutral (not harmful but also not a superstar), and negative. I bought the Type O volume. Anything I eat on the negative list always gives me indigestion and makes me drowsy. Some of those foods I blame for years of low energy and borderline depression. Gradually using this book and eating a gluten-free diet has made a huge difference in my emotional well being. Just thought I’d share.
Tell Eric he has now up’d you one — Do you remember your beginning cooking days at the age of 12, and the recipe that called for Frozen Peas?!! I love Ashley’s suggestion of carrot juice. I am definitely going to try that in my green monster.
I love boys! My bf just looks blankly at my Green Monsters. Once I made one with just spinach and oat milk and chugged it down because I needed an energy boost. He seriously thought I was insane! :-)
Some of the worst things I’ve had in mine … probably kale (way too bitter), peaches (I couldn’t taste them, I don’t think they were ripe enough) and celery (just very acidic and gross for some reason).
Do you shop at Superstore or Sobeys? I moved away from Canada a year ago (I live in England at the moment) and I really miss some things about the grocery stores, but not the produce. I mean, the apples were succulent and delish (esp in Nova Scotia), but the organic stuff is SO expensive. It’s actually more reasonable over here.
Arugula, bitter and spicy. Enough said.
Ha! I would have gagged!!
I always enjoy your insight, thank you so much!
That has got to be the funniest thing I have read that a man has done in a very long time. First I was thinking, what a sweetie…then it went to OMG uggg.
I have to let you know my x brother in law was told my my sis to put the extention cord on the freezer and he did. Well she ment to plug it in, and all the stuff went bad!
You just never know it could be what they say is true, men are from mars women are from venus.
My boyfriend did that with mango once… yuck!
