Green Morning To You

July 27, 2009

I added a bunch of green monster recipes over at Green Monster Movement last night, go on over and check em out! :)

I was up around 5:30 this morning tending to some Glo Bakery business. I’m a bit behind in my work so the next few mornings are going to be early ones to try and get caught up. My week started off like it should- with TWO healthy doses of green!

The sun is finally shining today. I hope it stays that way because I have yet to get out for a run since my 10 mile race!

Today’s green monster is not one I would replicate…

IMG_0902
  • 2 apricots (made it much too bitter!!!)
  • 1/3 banana
  • 1 scoop Amazing Grass Wheatgrass powder
  • 1 squirt Kyolic garlic
  • 1/3 cup watermelon (couldn’t even taste it :( )
  • 3 cups spinach- lightly steamed
  • 1 T chia seeds
  • 4 cubes ice

It sure looked pretty but it was very bitter- even after I added 1/3 of a banana. I would not recommend using apricots unless you are willing to mask the bitterness with a ton of added fruit.

Funny story I tweeted about this weekend:

Eric made my green monster for me on Saturday since I was in such a rush. I drank it and it tasted nice and everything. AFTER, I finished my GM he told me ever so nonchalantly, ‘I couldn’t get the frozen peel off the banana so I just threw in the peel along with the banana.’

Oh. My. God.

I almost died!!!!!!!!!!!!

My stomach started to churn and I swear I had stomach pains from the peel. Maybe it was all psychological, but I was not happy knowing there was a black peel in my belly! GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!

~~~~~~~
Today’s question: What is the worst ingredient you’ve ever tried in a green monster?
I had the same problem as Eric with getting the peel off the frozen bananas…..so I started peeling them before I froze them. It’s much easier! Just peel and wrap in saran wrap or put in a baggie in the freezer! I also break in half before freezing…..makes the cold banana much easier to work with! :)
Yes I usually do that too, but I was in a rush Friday night and just threw it in the freezer without thinking. Eric then googled banana peels on the internet and he found out they are supposedly SUPER healthy and filled with serotonin. LOL.
hahahhaha guys are so funny- that is hilarious that he left the peel on. I think I’m going to make a monster this afternoon…I need some good healthy fuel before our Body Step launch!
The worst ingredient would be un-ground flax seed. It was so gritty! Ugh!
I definitely had to do the same thing this morning. I couldnt get the peel off the frozen banana. So you arent the only one who had Green Monster with some peel in it!
Ewwww banana peel! I wonder if it has some random nutrients that are super good for you? LOL.
My worst combo was blueberries and raspberries together. Much too bitter, even 1/2 a banana didn’t help at all. It needed a couple of strawberries. I still drank it because I don’t like to waste but I plugged my nose a lot.
Eric is so fun! I can’t imagine the taste of banana peel! :)
Worst combo? I think it’s actually kale with no banan in it. I know you like it a lot, but the GM with only kale and Almond Breeze was gross.
Oh jeez! MEN! hahahahaha. The worst thing I ever put in a GM was celery. I had to throw it out. UGH.
Angela, I tried my first green monster this morning and it was more like sludge. My ingredients included: 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 banana, couple hand fulls of fresh spinach, 2 tablespoons of flax, 5 frozen strawberries, and 1/2 cup of ice. Maybe I used too much ice/frozen things? I am also not sure I liked the almond milk (this was my first time trying it). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
It looks like not enough liquid. You need at least 1 cup of milk/liquid to make it ‘drinkable’ :) try that and see! I also have never been a big fan of strawberries in mine, but perhaps I am just eating ones that are too tart! ~A
I know it sounds weird- but I actually cannot stand banana in smoothies. Even half a banana in an entire blender full of smoothie makes it unpalatable for me. So while I actually haven’t put it in a green monster, that would be the worst ingredient for me.
As for one I DID put in, I put almond butter in once and found the taste to be overwhelming. All I could taste was the almond butter- so I don’t think I’ll do that again.
A full packet of Amazing Grass. YUCK! Instead I use half packets, sometimes I can only stomach a quarter packet.
Something you might like Angela! Try carrot juice in your smoothie! I added half a bottle of the Odwalla Carrot Juice into my normal mix instead of milk which includes two big handfuls of spinach, a banana, cup of frozen blueberries, 2 tablespoons of flax, and half cup whatever fun fruit I have on hand. Today that was raspberries. The carrot juice really changed the flavor up. It was great!
Worst ingredient? Probably protein powder. You use a bad protein powder and it all goes down the drain. Pick wisely!
Hahaha that is hilarious! Atleast we know it’s somewhat edible now…emphasis on the ‘somewhat.’ I love that he googled it :)
That is absolutely hilarious about the banana peel! The worst thing I ever put in was too many mixed berries, all the seeds ruined it for me!
hahaha that banana peel story is hilarious! Such a guy thing to do! I think the worst taste for me would be HEMP protein powder. I didn’t realize it’s the hemp I can’t stand until trying a few protein powders with hemp int hem and hating them ALL. I couldn’t even stand the Amazing Meal Protein powder.. blech! makes me want to puke!
