On The Hump Of A New Year

December 31, 2008

That’s right- The Hump of the New Year is upon us!

Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!

dsc07216

Eric and I in 2006 at my brother’s NYE party.

To  bring 2008 to a wonderful close, I decided what better way than to end it with a great, kick-butt workout!

Workout details:

  •  0.10 mile walking warm-up, 4.0 mph, incline 4%
  • 4 mile tempo run (1.5 miles @ 6.5 mph; 1 mile 7.0mph; 0.5 miles 7.5 mph; 1 mile 6.0 mph) all at incline 4%
  • 0.20 mile Walking cool-down, 4.0 mph, incline 4%
  • Total duration: 44 mins.
  • Max Heart Rate: 177 bpm (91% of max)
  • Avg Heart Rate: 156 bpm (80% of max)
  • Feel the Burn: 360 kcals

I have to be honest here. This wasn’t the great, kick-butt, feeling energetic and peppy workout I anticipated!

I was. so. tired. today. I was up late (1am) reading my Marathon book (damn you Hal!! lol) and boy was it tough getting the energy to run at a high intensity. My right foot is also still sore, so I may have to take tomorrow off too. I think it was the result of tieing my shoelaces too tight (it has happened to me before).

I persisted on though, and I read some of my Runner’s World Magazine which helped keep the motivation going. I am a bit peeved because my last few runs have not been what I would consider pleasant! I was hoping that yesterday’s rest day would help, but I guess this goes to show you that rest is crucial when training for a race.

Afterward, I had a delicious post-run Smoothie:

  • 1/2 cup Almond breeze milk
  • 1 cup mixed frozen strawberries and blackberries
  • 1 Tbsp. Flax seed
  • 1 Tbsp. MaraNatha Raw Almond Butter

Makes 1 serving @ 240 calories

This was the first time I used our new KitcheAid Blender that we received as a wedding gift!

It worked amazing!

Not bad for my first smoothie concoction!

I was also amazed at how easy clean up was:

All you do is add warm water, dishsoap, and stir!

Well I am off to work! Hopefully I can leave earlyish today since no one will be around :D See you this afternoon for a FUN FAQ post!!!

“Running is a big question mark that’s there each and every day. It asks you, ‘Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'”
          – Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian and sub-2:12 marathoner

It was kind of a relief to read that you didn’t have a great run today. . . because I, too, was sore and not at all up to snuff today (and I thought for sure I was going to have a great run when I hopped on the treadmill). So — here’s to a great first run for 2009!

Have a great New Year’s Eve!
