The lovely ladies from Booty Camp Fitness recently sent me their new Ultimate Home Edition 11-disc workout plan to try out. I am a big fan of their first workout DVDs, so I was really excited to try their newest series. Sammie Kennedy- the Creator of Booty Camp Fitness- and the other amazing boot-camp instructors have a very friendly and laid-back style, making even the biggest exercise newbie feel confident. When you think of a “boot camp” workout, you often think of instructors screaming at you and lots of intensity. This isn’t Booty Camp’s style at all. It’s all about having fun, empowering women, and making it seem like you are working out with a few of your girlfriends (who just happen to know some killer workout exercises).
The 11-disc series contain the following workouts:
The DVDs come with a workout calendar, jump rope, measuring tape, lifestyle guide, and e-cookbook as well. I’ve been testing out the workouts since the end of December and I’m starting the 2-month plan this week.
The workout that I love to hate? 20-minute Bounce ‘n Burn (jump rope)
Burn isn’t even the word! My legs feel like bricks when I do this workout. The last time I jumped rope was probably in grade school so it wasn’t pretty the first time I did it. After a couple painful sessions, I’ve relearned how to jump rope without whipping myself like silly (tip: wear long pants!). It will probably take me at least a few more sessions until I’m not gasping for air..it’s an intense 20 minutes, even with alternating jumping rope with strength exercises.
So far the videos are going well and I’m loving the variety of the 11 workouts. My muscles hate me though, so I’ve been making sure to stretch a lot, take my rest days when needed, and get lots of protein following tough workouts.
Like with this Triple lentil Recovery Soup!

Triple Lentil Recovery Soup

Total time
Packed with over 25 grams of protein per serving, this soup will aid with post-workout recovery and get you back in the game in no time.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 sweet onion, chopped (~2 cups)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 heaping cup chopped celery
- 1/2 tsp coriander
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 5-6.5 cups vegetable broth, depending on how thin/thick you want it
- 1/2 cup dry red lentils
- 1/2 cup dry black beluga lentils
- 1 cup dry green/brown lentils
- Kosher salt & pepper, to taste (I used about 1/2 tsp salt)
Directions
- In a large skillet or pot, add the oil and sauté the onion and garlic over low-medium heat for about 6-7 minutes.
- Add in the celery and sauté another few minutes. Stir in the spices and cook for another couple minutes on low.
- Now, rinse and drain the lentils and stir into skillet/pot. Add the broth and stir well. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, a simmer until thick and lentils are cooked, about 45 minutes to an hour. Watch closely and stir frequently so it doesn’t stick to the pot. Add more broth to thin out if desired. You can also use an immersion blender to blend some of the soup a bit. I did this, but left it mostly chunky. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Prepare yourself for a high protein and flavourful soup, great for all those sore muscles that we often have at the beginning of the year. A little bit goes a long way with this soup! It’s extremely filling and lovely with a toasted bun or piece of bread.
It’s a bit of an “ugly duckling” soup, but I think we learned not to judge food by its appearance long ago. ;)

i came across your blog recently and have loved all the wonderful vegan recipes that are creative but don’t have a ton of odd ingredients. i like that they are simple in terms of ingredients but big on flavor and satisfy. in 2012 i want to cut out a lot of foods that i know i don’t need and have started with no white flour, no added sugar, very limited dairy (only eggs and yogurt) and your site has helped me realize i can go further. now the offer of this great workout dvd and set will complete my refreshed healthy lifestyle. thank you!
In 2012 I want to stop talking and start doing!
I’d like to eat right and workout as a means to being healthy rather than looking at it as a way to try to lose weight
My 2012 goal:
I’ve forever heard how great meditation is for one’s mentality/attention span/mood, and I believe it, however, I never actually do it! I must make the effort.
I’m creating a lot for 2012 – rescue a dog, learn to make kombucha, and live a life more in balance (more yoga, less work, etc. :-) ). I’m really looking forward to 2012 – and possibly these booty camp workouts!!
2012 is going to be the year I finally commit to a regular yoga practise…I’ve committed to the importance of it for so long, but now it’s time to go from sporadic to faithful!
I spent the past year recovering from a back injury… i’m finally close to my goal of full rehabilitation. Geared up to meet my goal of being my fittest self! A new program would be amazing :)
I’d love to add more exercise to my schedule! Prior to my wedding in November (ok, a FEW MONTHS prior to my wedding…) I exercised at least four days a week…now I’m down to running twice a week. I’d love to get back up to 4x a week and add in strength training again!!! :)
I plan on finishing a triathlon this year!
in 2012 I would like to learn how to eat to properly fuel my body and to also make exercise a constant part of my life. I also hope to run or crawl a marathon this year!
My goal is to finish undergrad with a 3.5 this last semester [far harder than it sounds for someone who needs remotivation], and to plan a low-cost, fun, active and outdoorsy adventure for the summer before I start my job in finance!
That’s some intense lentil action!
In 2012 I’m going to become an RN & start working! woo hoo! That’s a goal that I know I’ll complete at this point but its also a goal to run my first 5k this year!
I would like to be able to find maintain more balance in consistency between my work, exercise, personal, and volunteer efforts. I also need to re-discover the art of listening to your body and following it’s needs. I’m starting with the latter and already reaping the benefits. :-P
I would love to run a 10K since I ran a 5K last year! Thanks for the recipe and giveaway :)
My goals are to eat healthier and waste less food this year. I also ran my first 5k last year and would like to run a 10k in 2012!
Ahh, awesome giveaway!!! I just moved to a new area and haven’t found a good gym yet…this would be perfect.
Goal for 2012–stop drinking diet soda. Ugh, I know, I know…
My goal for 2012 is less talk, more action! The people I look up to and want to emulate don’t sit around wishing their dreams into realities. They wake up every day and make strides. Last year, I tried to do it all at once, got mentally overwhelmed and shrank back into my old ways fairly quickly. This year, I have a progressive timeline. Accomplish A, then move on to B. Accomplish B, then move on to C. I’m starting small and working my way up. I’ve already knocked a few things off my list, and it feels great and gives me much-needed momentum!
thats a great approach!
I would like to phase meat out of my diet. I used to have meat at almost every meal. This past year I got myself down to mostly once a day. I’d like to go the rest of the way! I’m pretty much off dairy, and also avoid gluten like the plague – so, I’ve had to learn new ways to cook, and this blog has really helped!
My goal is to run a half marathon this year:)
Resolution 1: Get a NEW job
1a) get fit for new job (eating well, exercising regularly (which i do for the most part already)
Resolution 2: Get ready for family addition
2a) get fit for new family member (see 1a)
Resolution 3: Enjoy the house we live in… making it our own, adding some style (no more eggshell white walls)
Resolution 4: Enjoy life — this last year was filled with too must stress and not enough fun.
