Good evening!
I have been working on the Glo biz + OSG website today. I have added a new honeymoon page where I will be adding more honeymoon pictures. I also updated the She page as well as a few others!
My awesome friend Laura also gave me an awesome place to buy all of my bakery packaging! Uline.ca is the website. I browsed their online catalogue last night and they have EVERYTHING! I’m so pumped. They are in the GTA as well so I make make a trip over there one day to check out the showroom (if they have one?).
Would anyone be interested in joining an Oh She Glows fan group on Facebook? I’m wondering if it would get any response??
Groceries: Part 2
As I said earlier, I bought a ton of bulk foods for Glo Bakery today. Much to my delight almost everything on my list was on SALE!
Here is what I bought:
- 1.825 kg of WWPF (Whole wheat pastry flour)
- 2.6 kg of Brown Flax Seeds
- 0.6 kg Dried Blueberries
- .64 kg Turbinado Brown Sugar
- 1.020 kg walnut pieces
- 1 kg Amber Liquid Honey
- 2.215 kg Organic Cane sugar
- 0.61 kg Aluminum-free baking powder
Dark Amber Honey:

HUGE bags!

Pretty much everything I bought was on sale except for the dried blueberries and WWPF!
Look at all that flax!

This was a BIG bill at Bulk Barn today! It cost me about $75. But I had to think in terms of how long this stuff would last me. For example, the huge bulk bags of almonds I bought last fall lasted me almost 5 months!! This bag of flax could last me even longer, but likely won’t since I will be baking with it! :)
Late afternoon (around 6pm) I made a Green Monster to tie me over until dinner:
I added pumpkin that was on its last legs, lol:
See you tomorrow morning for what ORANGE Baked good I made tonight!! Ohhhh it is good! :D
Tonight’s Question:
Do you buy bulk foods? Why or why not? What do you buy in bulk?
I find with some food products like nuts it definitely cheaper to buy in bulk. I try to buy what is on sale as well. Buying in bulk also reduces the amount of packaging which is always good for the environment.
Psssst…Stroll on over to Julie Go Lean’s fabulous blog for a chance to win some awesome food!

I would love to join an Oh She Glows facebook group! I love this blog!
Tonight I made some “chips” from your recipe but I didn’t have any quinoa so I just used more rice. They still came out super tasty!
i love buying stuff in bulk. it lets me buy exactly as much as i want and i appreciate cutting down on the waste/plastic! i try to buy as much stuff as i can either in big package quantities or in bulk. i have very little in the way of individually packaged things.
I love buying bulk foods, but none of my grocery stores really have a bulk section. I have to take a field trip to a farther away store to get good bulk stuff.
I’d totally join an OSG fan group, but I just wanted to let you know about a cool thing on FB that I did. It’s called NetworkedBlogs, and you can get people to join your blog network much like a fan club. Email me if you want more info!
I have started buying bulk for a lot of things and I really like it! I just need to buy some bags so I can avoid those plastic ones!
Angela,
I need to buy in bulk. I might be the worst shopper on the planet when it comes to finding deals. I have shopped meal-to-meal for about 6 years, but my girlfriend is slowly training me to shop “smarter”.
The plus side of being a daily shopper is that I get Ultra-Crisp Honeycrisp and Fuji Apples!
My girlfriend will like your blog. She’s an independent fashion designer and has dresses in funky little boutiques up and down the West Coast.
Nice site!
Rusty
I buy oats, granola, flour, and nuts in bulk. Granola is pretty expensive for the small-ish bags they come in, so it’s great if I can find it in bulk!
Love FB, would definitely join your group! Also so jealous of your bulkbarn shop, I need to go asap :)
i am sooooo missing my bulk bins!!!
So funny you mentioned the Facebook page in your post! I was just thinking about that again! You should definitely make a fan page for your blog.
I am a HUGE fan of buying in bulk. It’s so much cheaper to buy just what you need and not have to pay for fancy packaging. It’s good for portion control too…you can buy just a couple treats from the bulk bin and you get your sweet fix without worrying about overdoing it. It’s just awesome. I pretty much get everything in bulk that I can.
I would totally join your facebook group girl :)
I <3 the Bulk Barn! It’s a great place when you want to try small portions of new things, or when you know you’ll only need so much of certain items. It’s particularly fantastic for stocking up on herbs/spices – the containers you buy in the grocery store are almost guaranteed to go bad before you use them up, and who wants to pay $6.99 for a container of a spice that you only need 1 tsp of?!
I’d join your group! I love your blog. I’ve started “Green Monsters” because of you! I just had one a minute ago :)
That is a whole LOT of Bulk! I definitely miss all the goods at the Bulk Barn!!!
i wish we had something like that in england, to get lots of bulk things! i do buy in bulk in the wholefoods in london though so it’s pretty good. i’m not sure if i’ve commented here before, but just to say i adore your blog, adore your photos (you are one beautiful woman!!) and basically adore :)
Hey! I’ve been a lurker for a while now and finally decided to comment! I’ve been drinking purple monsters lately with zuchinni instead of kale…yummmm, makes them creamy!
Also when are all these yummy goodies going to be available in your bakery you’ve been experimenting with?
Sara
No followers on Facebook?! Your kidding right? I love your blog!!!
I love buying in bulk. I find is SO much cheaper and easier to portion out what you need so no extra that sits in your pantry for weeks.
I never thought of putting pumpkin in my green monster but now I will try it! YUM!
Can’t wait to see the baked good!!!
I’D TOTALLY JOIN THE GROUP ON FACEBOOK!! :-D
Oh I’m pretty sure you would get a whole lotta groupies on FB!
I’ve just recently discovered Bulk Barn. We didn’t have them when I lived out West. Not to say that I never bought bulk, because I did when I thought of it…but the selection was a lot smaller because it was just an aisle at the grocery store. BB has opened a lot of baking ideas for me!
Hi Angela,
I was wondering if you ever substitute maple syrup for sugar in your “personal/home” baking. Last year we collected sap and made our own maple syrup, and this year we have done the same (20L+ of the finished product so far). And, since maple syrup contains potassium, calcium, iron and thiamin – seems like a good substitute for sugar. Anyway, I was just wondering if you had tried and what your results were.
Love your blog! :)
