Happy Friday to you all. :)
Despite, feeling like it was Wednesday on Monday, this week actually flew by for me! I felt like I got a lot accomplished too, so that is always nice.
Since I was wide awake at 5am this morning (why, why why can’t I sleep this week?!), I decided to make some progress on my new GF Glo Bar. I worked on the nutritional information for a while and it is looking awesome!
My groin area is still feeling a bit tender after my tumble earlier this week. I am a bit worried that I am not going to be able to run my 15k race this Sunday that I am signed up for, but there is not much I can do about it at this point. I am going to continue with icing and stretching and hope that leads me to a quick recovery for Sunday’s race. If it turns out that I can’t race, I will still be cheering my girlfriends on from the sidelines and screaming my little heart out!
For breakfast, I wanted comfort food…
Pumpkin Spice Makes Everything Nice
Ingredients:
Into the pot goes…
- 1/2 cup extra thick Bob’s Red Mill Oats (or regular is fine)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- pinch sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons canned pumpkin
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or mix of 1/2 t cinnamon, 1/4 t nutmeg and 1/4 ginger)
- 1/2 banana, chopped
Directions: Throw everything into the pot and stir well over high heat. Bring to a boil and reduce to low, stirring frequently off and on for about 10 minutes. Serve and add your toppings!
Toppings:
- 1/2 Classic Glo Bar
- 1 tablespoon Chia seeds
- few dried organic cranberries
- Drizzle of pure maple syrup
Oh, it smelled divine! Almost like pumpkin pie. :)
Half of a Classic Glo Bar for a topping…
Chia seeds floating in the river!
With a mix of Four O’Clock Japanese Sencha loose leaf and white loose leaf to wake me up.
This bowl was really filling…so much so that I couldn’t finish! I had about 3/4 of my serving. This should keep me going all morning long.
I also made a birthday list (as requested by hubby).
My birthday isn’t until May 16th, but Eric wanted some ideas, so ideas he got…
On my birthday list:
- Knee pads for scrubbing the hardwood (I’m 26 going on 80, apparently!)
- Stainless Steel Kettle (our current $8 kettle is possessed)
- Storage room finished (Eric is in the process of building me a storage room for the bakery)
- VITAMIX (don’t laugh!)
He saw that I asked for KNEE PADS for scrubbing floors and he said, ‘That is a joke right? You are trying to trick me! Obviously I am not buying you knee pads for your birthday because everyone will think I am a horrible husband!
But…I actually really need them!!!! :( Can’t a gal just want some knee pads? lol.
I have been asking for a Vitamix for over 2 years now on every occasion I can think of…Christmas, Valentine’s, Birthday, Anniversary, St Patty’s Day, Halloween, Earth Day, National Pie Week (April 23-25th, FYI), etc. Every time I put it on my list, Eric laughs and says ‘KEEP DREAMING!’…and a little piece of me dies inside. :( However, I was always taught to persevere in the face of resistance. He is going to tire of my complaints and heavy sighs about my broken & leaking KitchenAid blender one of these days!
Do you have any big ticket items on your wish list? What are they?
I’m off to try and fix my computer issues with the Canada Post shipping module (lots of computer issues this AM!!!), test the GF Glo Bar, catch up on the week’s paperwork, and start re-designing OSG. I am giving the blog a makeover in the days to come…keep your eyes peeled for a snazzy new design.
Enjoy your day!

You really can’t go wrong with adding pumpkin! :D
I have a whole dream list of things I want for my new apartment but I guess I have to find an apartment first, then start begging. ;)
I always asks for practical stuff! I desperately need rainboots, but didn’t get them. so sad. my actual bday is on Sunday so maybe there is still hope!
knee pads? i think your blog readers need to take up a collection and get some for you!
That breakfast looks awesome! I have a few big-ticket items on my wishlist… a Vitamix is on the list, although I know that will be a while before I get it. I really want a Garmin Forerunner as well! I have expensive taste ;)
xo
Kris
I’m sorry to hear your injury is still prevalent- I hope you’re able to race this weekend!
I can definitely relate to the blender issues, mine if from the land before time and definitely likes to leak! I’m also in need of a new camera but my birthday isn’t until October so I have a while yet.
Maybe if you tell Eric that you’ll use it to also create some excellent smoothies to help replace his coke he’ll be more inclined to oblige you this time around ;)
hah love the way you thnk!
Thanks for the new oats recipe….leave up to you to keep us all interested in breakfast….have tried almost all of your oats recipes….really enjoy them. :)
Glad you enjoy the recipes!
Angela…after admiring your small glass tea infuser I was reminded I would like to start drinking more green tea again to wean off coffee (grrr that has been SUCH a challenge in the past!) I recall you did a very thorough post comparing the health benefits and flavors of green teas, any chance you remember which post that was? I can’t seem to find it with typing in key word “sencha” or “green tea.” Thanks!
Found it! :) yay

I saw the Bob Mill extra thick oats the other day and almost bought them. Are they better than regular oats? I love thick and chewy textures so I always use steelcut oats mixed in with my regular ones.
I dont notice a huge difference…I probably will stick to regular oats!
Hope you get your Vitamix one day! The big ticket item on my list is… an engagement ring! Haha. Hopefully it will be more than just a dream. :)
I asked my husband for a vita-mix…he said”what baby wants — baby gets” To say that he has been supportive of my new found health and wellness it an understatement. I use that machine all the time. I love it. Love it! Hope you it, although you will then become an even bigger monster of the Green Monsters!
I always want super practical gifts too. Last year I asked for stuff for my car to keep it clean.
Have fun with the new layout! That was my favorite part of starting my blog.
oh! i so hope you get a vitamix! i adore mine. it really is such a pleasure to have in the kitchen and makes everything such a breeze. i’ll be praying for you ;)
I want a trip to Calgary or Lunenburg! I have some friends there and really want to head up this summer!
oh man…at least he didn’t go for the easy joke about knee pads, cause that’s just tacky. ;P
I hope you get your Vitamix. It really is a worthwhile investment.
Have you checked out the Blendtec?…I’ve had one since January and love it! I use it at least once a day(green monsters ect) and it has yet to disappoint! And it’s cheaper then the Vitamix :)
My birthday’s the 27th of this month and I’m secretly hoping for a new laptop! Mine is currently possessed by evil gremlins.
Love your site, hope you finally get the Vitamix!
Do you know how much cheaper they are? I have heard equally good things about Blendtec (just not as frequently as Vitamixes saturate the market)
They go for about 399…do you have Bed Bath & Beyond? They have them and you can get 20%off there :) One other thing about the Blendtec is you don’t have to purchase a separate dry blade-for making your own flour/nut butters ect…it does both! So that alone makes it cheaper :)
After my HUSBAND accidentally broke our last blender, he finally gave in and bought us a Vitamix… but we got an older model, the 4500 I think from a different website and saved over $100. I can probably the find the website somewhere if you are interested. Also, check craigslist.com, there are always Vitamixes for sale in our area!
Really crossing my fingers that someone decides to get us the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer off of our wedding registry… the cheap hand mixer doesn’t always cut it!
This reminds me that I should make the birthday list that Dan asked for…my birthday is May 3!
Wow, that pumpkin spice oats looks really delish! I’d never heard of a Vitamix until now….sounds interesting now that I’m making a lot of my foods either in my majic bullet or my oldie since anniversary 18 yrs ago blender…doh! They are both starting to smell a bit burned up. My majic bullet is awesome but not for the green monsters, not enough space and my blender is too old. Has anyone looked on ebay? I might have to look into getting one of these new toys if I can find one for a good deal.
Okay so big ticket items….welllll, I haven’t had a new car since 2000, no biggie, I love my Nissan Xterra, it has really been a wonderful vehicle for us and me especially while doing triathlons and cycling. I will keep it as long as it lasts, however, I’m getting the itch and the DH has had 2 brand new “cool” vehicles in 6 years. First he had an awesome PT Cruiser Turbo that he had fixed up really nice, he had it 2 years and then traded it in for a brand new 06′ Ford Mustang and wow….a muscle car it is. Sooooo, you see, I believe it’s my turn to get a new car and I have an itch for a Nissan 370Z or GTR but I’m also looking at an Audi TT, but we shall see. I’ve always been a person that’s not much on lots of presents, just something I’d really need or have wanted. My birthday and his are both coming up in June, I want a car but the next thing is, a new iPhone. I usually get stuff that has to do with triathlon or running but I’ve pretty much reached my stock with those things.
One day your vita-mix will come : )
