Next up, on our Honeymoon tour: Athens, Greece!
Missed Stop 1? Venice
Fun facts about Athens:
- Athens is the largest city & capital of Greece
- It’s one of the world’s oldest cities
- Population: approximately 3,932,756
- First modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896
- Birthplace of many prominent writers, philosophers, politicians and scientists of the ancient world, including Sophocles, Socrates and Pericles.
And it’s smokin’ hot! ![]()
It reached a high of 38 degrees Celsius the day we were there. Eric and I were sweating buckets while climbing the Acropolis and Filopappos hill. We finally reached the top of the Acropolis and discovered there was no water to be found, just a lot of thirsty tourists! If you ever find yourself climbing this, bring more than 1 bottle of water… ;)
There are about 150,000 stray dogs living on the streets in Athens. I wanted to take all of them home…
After our climbs, we headed to the Plaka shopping area where there are a lot of tourist/market type shops and high end shopping too.

I love tea but can never afford the good stuff! When I worked at a coffeehouse I got spoiled with all the loose leaf teas… I miss them!
Wow that looks beautiful. I’ve always wanted to visit Greece, it always looks gorgeous! And that tea looks delicious! I’ve been wanting to experiment with loose leaf teas :)
Oh man, those teas look spectacular!!
This is my comment :)
Woah! those pictures look amazing! I would definitely go there if I could. :) I would love to win some tea.
Mmmm! I’ve had toasted walnut from another shop (David’s) and it tastes just like cotton candy. Mmmm!
Wow, those flavours are incredible. I can’t even imagine what Banana Bread tea tastes like!
i LOVE tea! what a fun giveaway!
It looks like you had a great time in Greece. My dad is from Greece and I haven’t been their since I was 2. I hope to go back to Greece sometime. The tea looks awesome. I love tea, and that tea just looks delicious. Have a great day Angela and I just wanted to say I’m so glad I found your website your recipes are just amazing!
Wow, these teas look absolutely delicious! Thanks for doing this giveaway!
Lovely photos – I went to Greece in September 2009 and I miss it a lot.
If you really want to experience Greece, rent a car and travel to Sparti, Mystras, Napfoli, Kalamata, Githio/Mavrovouni, Aeropoli/Mani – just to name a few! I spent two weeks in Greece with my boyfriend’s grandparents in Karyes and I have to admit that Athens was my least favourite of all the places we visited (although the new muesuem in Athens is pretty amazing).
I would love to win some tea! To say I love tea is an understatement.
Great photos!
If you really want to experience Greece, rent a car and drive to Mystras, Sparti, Napfoli, Kalamata, Githio/Mavrovouni, or Aeropoli/Mani.
Athens is beautiful, like the rest of Greece but I have to say it was my least favourite stop during my two weeks in Greece (although the museum is really neat).
Would love some tea!
I really, really want to go to Athens now!
I love tea! I would absolutely love to win all those great teas!
Hey Angie!
So I’m greek, my family lives there, and I go twice a year (luckily), just fyi, if you want to experience greece, you should really go to the islands! Here’s the 411 on Greece:
1.) Their summer is mid/late july- end of september so don’t go in May or June
2.) Everyone (99.9% of the population) lives in Athens, but during the summer (theirs, not ours), everyone flocks to the islands so that’s where you’ll really experience the country at it’s best.
3.) Athens is… nice to see once, but it’s polluted, crowded, hot, and not really that pretty.
4.) If you want to go to Athens again, try and stay in Voula/Glyfada area.. it’s much nicer, cleaner, and less touristy
5.) If you want to hit the islands once summer, try these places: Paros, Ios, Mykinos (the party island), Santorini, Sifnos, and Kefalonia.
You’ll probably lose this comment in the midst of the entries, but thought I’d give you the low-down in case you ever wanted to revisit Greece! It is the best place in the world… but I’m biased :-)
Those photos are gorgeous. Athens is one of the places I want to visit.
Beautiful pics!!!
love the photos. I haven’t looked at my honeymoon pics for years…now is a good day. Thanks.
Those teas look gorgeous! I’ve been making a conscientious effort to drink less coffee these days and I must say those interesting flavours are making tea all the more appealing.
Beautiful photos. I would want to take all the dogs home too… I actually know someone who did just that- he was in Greece for a few weeks for work and brought back a pup that had been following him around! I love those stories!
