Glo Bar Giveaway!

July 12, 2011

‘I don’t have a goal weight, I have a goal life.’

I heard this quote while watching an interview with an Extreme Weight Loss participant and it really clicked with me!

Along my journey, I realized that a certain number on the scale wouldn’t magically make my life perfect. For years I chased this number while becoming more and more unhappy.

I now focus on creating the life that I want, by taking small steps each day. It’s about how I feel each day when I wake up. If I wake up happy and eager to start the day, I know I’m on the right track. A certain number can’t dictate my happiness, but I can make changes in my life to feel my best.

While, I’m busy baking up orders today, I thought it would be fun to have a Glo Bar giveaway!

“Nothing in life that’s worth having comes easily”

From Scrubs … cheesy, but very true.

My motto an adaptation of this too shall pass: “every day must end”. (so no matter how bad the situation it will end, time will heal, things will get better).

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that I am stronger than I think I am. I turned a very negative life lesson into my first half marathon. I proved to myself that I can take control of my life and that I don’t have to let negative experiences affect me for the rest of it. This has also led into another life lesson (I can share two right? :) ) I learned of acceptance. I can’t change the past and obsessing over it doesn’t make it better but I can accept it and move on. Thank you for the give away Angela! :D

I help run an arts program for the elderly. This weekend we had an event at a site one elder and I were talking about eating and exercising. She said, at 94, “everything in moderation.” I know we hear it all the time but it is always worth repeating. A life has to be varied and dynamic.

“Take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.”

I have learned over so much, over the last year, about myself and about the energy that I put into things having a positive or negative effect on myself. I have learned that no matter how “negative” things may seem sometimes, if I put a positive twist on them or choose not to acknowledge the negative thoughts, I’m choosing to defeat the negative energy and that has helped in my journey more than any other single thing.

One thing I’ve learned is that life is happening right now, it doesn’t start when I reach a certain number on the scale!

When I focus on treating myself well, and focus on what I should do, rather than what I can’t have and shouldn’t do, I look and feel the best.

“There is a communion of more than our bodies when bread is broken and wine drunk.” – M.F.K. Fisher

This best captures the most important lesson of overcoming my own eating hangups, which is the realization that there is such joy to be had in sharing in a meal with others. We not only connect to our fellow diners in a meaningful way, but to a broader culture of food and food production. It is part of why I feel so fulfilled when my partner and I share fresh, local, Ontario produce after receiving it from the hands that grew and harvested it.

The joys to be had from eating great (and healthy) food are much greater than those that might be had standing alone on a bathroom scale.

I’ve learned to do what works for me. It’s hard reading so many blogs, seeing so many diet books, and being told so many things. Each person is different and needs to do what works for them. That’s a hard lesson sometimes!

One of my fav.quotes: Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~Judy Garland

Dieting to be thin made me a horribly cranky and obsessive person. In fact, while on my last diet, I called a therapist because I thought I was losing it. I vowed to be healthy at any weight after that, not just thin. And sane.

I’ve learned that being happy and healthy is more important than any number on the scale! I don’t even own one in my place at university now :)

It sounds cliche but “everything happens for a reason” is truly what I live by. When there are difficult times in my life I do my best to focus on the fact that there will be something that will come out of it that will make me a better person.

I’ve really tried to embody Eleanor Roosevelt’s quotation that “nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
I used to believe others when they would make fun of me and ridicule me. After years of struggling with low self-esteem, I gradually learned that I can choose to let someone influence the way I feel – both positively and negatively. Now I only choose to let the positive in. I give consent to that. I do not consent to letting someone else bring me down by making me feel I am not an intelligent, kind, compassionate, interesting person.

Favorite Quote from Wayne Dyer:

“You’ll seldom experience regret for anything that you’ve done. It is what you haven’t done that will torment you. The message, therefore, is clear. Do it! Develop an appreciation for the present moment. Seize every second of your life and savor it. Value your present moments. Using them up in any self-defeating ways means you’ve lost them forever.”

I have loved this quote since I read it over 10 years ago-
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” ~Albus Dumbledore
This quote just reminds to focus on what is wonderful in my life!

I have learned (am learning) that I am my biggest critic. I am the biggest critic in all aspects of my life however the weight is my biggest hurtle. My quote that I believe in is
“Life is to short to waste. Seize each day as if that were your last.”

The best lesson i have learned is to take one day at a time and not to compare yourself to anyone around you.
