Glo Bar Giveaway!

July 12, 2011

‘I don’t have a goal weight, I have a goal life.’

I heard this quote while watching an interview with an Extreme Weight Loss participant and it really clicked with me!

Along my journey, I realized that a certain number on the scale wouldn’t magically make my life perfect. For years I chased this number while becoming more and more unhappy.

I now focus on creating the life that I want, by taking small steps each day. It’s about how I feel each day when I wake up. If I wake up happy and eager to start the day, I know I’m on the right track. A certain number can’t dictate my happiness, but I can make changes in my life to feel my best.

While, I’m busy baking up orders today, I thought it would be fun to have a Glo Bar giveaway!

Reading Patti Smith’s memoir Just Kids, I read this: “I was both scattered and stymied, surrounded by unfinished songs and abandoned poems. I would go as far as I could and hit a wall, my own imagined limitations. And then I met a fellow who gave me his secret, and it was pretty simple. When you hit a wall, just kick it in.” Now I tell myself that all the time when I come up against some imagined obstacle–just kick it in.

Though I’m sure to get made fun of mercilessly for this…

“I will never say never.” Justin Bieber

Yes I’m 30 years old, but I recently made some really big life changes and whenever I think I can’t handle things or can’t do something, that 17 year old’s song pops in my head!

The most important thing i’ve come to understand is that there is much more to life than exercise, healthy eating and weight loss. We must be able to live a healthy lifestyle while still fully enjoying everything else we love!

“We have to learn to be our OWN best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies”

By far one of my favorite quotes and I have it taped to my bedroom wall, so whenever I get down on myself with personal body issues, it reminds me to love, not hate. :)

During my journey to recovery, I have come to accept that some days the scale is NOT going to be my friend and other days I will just skip the scale because I know that I will not be happy with what I see. I am so glad that I have gotten to a point where I can skip the scale if I know it will make for a bad day. I know that this might sound silly, but I feel much stronger on days when I avoid the scale altogether because I am avoiding the thing that tempts me everyday!

Well shoot….I just lost an hour reading through all of these! How inspirational! I’m just starting my journey. I’m recovering from back surgery and trying to regain my wellness after many many years of neglect. I truly believe that the universe/God is trying to fulfill our every thought and desire, but we have to pay attention. I wanted to lose weight for so long, and learned so much from books and blogs. But I failed to act on any of that knowledge and finally my back pain demanded that I stop and put into action every thing I learned. I drink more water, I eat healthy foods to fuel my body and I move more thanks to physical therapy. I’ve seen how powerful action is and I won’t go back to “wishing” myself thin.

My favorite quote via Winnie the Pooh:

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we’re apart.. i’ll always be with you.”

I’ve recently put on some weight and have been having a hard time with it. While I’m trying to work off the extra pounds one thing I keep telling myself is to enjoy the extra “padding” while i have it. The weight has mostly gone to my butt and my mentality is “Enjoy the bigger butt while I have it”

I’ve learned that an ounce of forgiveness is worth a pound happiness. And this is true even when it comes to healthy diets and such…I’ve learned to enjoy life…and when that enjoyment takes me off track a little more than I’d like, I forgive myself, and move on back on track. No use pouting about it when I could be happy instead! :)

I have learned that I am much happier enjoying what I eat (with a glass of wine), than stressing about how many calories are in something. I may not have the “perfect” shape, but I exercise almost daily, eat healthy most of the time, and enjoy splurging guilt free :)

I tried the weight loss journey last year, and focused on all the wrong things. When I slipped up, I let it define me and take me all the way back to the beginning. I’m finally seeing my way back, and this time the first thing I decided was no scales. I know this time that when my heart is happy my body will follow.

One important thing I’ve learned is that the gym, weights, group-x classes, training schedule, etc. will all still be there tomorrow, but your family, friends, memory-making opportunities may not! It’s important to be healthy, but part of being healthy is spending time doing things you love with the people you love!

My moment occured while working in the Philippines on an internship. I was going through a huge adjustment period in my life. I had just graduated university, I had landed an amazing six month internship with an organization I really believed in, I was living on the beach, learning how to surfing and dating an amazing gorgeous guy. Yet I found my self depressed and anxious on a daily basis. I couldn’t shake those thoughts that I should be doing more, i should be fitter, I should be building a career, I should be saving money for my future. I simply couldn’t live in the moment. I had to come to terms with the fact that I wasn’t perfect and that was ok. Life is always going to change around me and I have a concious choice in how I react to it. Why wait for tomorrow, what you can do today. I made a promise to myself to smile more, to be happy, to enjoy the people and places in my life.

I’ve learned that you have to do what works for YOU. We are constantly bombarded with advice and opinions (nicely meant or not) but we have to do what works for us and not worry about what other people think. This is true for diet, nutrition, exercise, but for me, its really true when it comes to raising oour kids. We have some very strong-minded grandparents and great-grandparents who don’t agree with all of the choices we have made regarding our kids. My husband and I mae our decisions based on what works for us and our family!

I have learned that the number on the scale is not as important as being happy. Being “skinny” actually backfired on me, causing me to become sad and alone. Being at my “happy weight” allowed me to be my happy self again :)

Definitely a very important one to me right now:
“Everything you do becomes part of you forever, even if nobody is watching.”

(Thanks to No Meat Athelete’s blog for that one!)
