Feeling Nutty 5 Minute Dip

March 10, 2010

I finally got caught up last night!

IMG_2122

So excited about Serena and Nate!!!

I didn’t think I was going to have time to watch last night because I was planning our FL trip for a couple hours and it got very late.

I was drinking green tea all night in my new mug.

IMG_2105

Surely I can’t be the only person who gets giddy over new mugs? ;) It honestly made my whole day every time I looked at it. So much better than the brown one I was drinking out of!

However, I pushed my limits with the tea. I was drinking tea until 11pm and then I could NOT sleep for the life of me. I was all wired up on caffeine and Gossip Girl. I finally fell asleep around 2:30 am. Note to self: Only decaf after 6pm!

I managed to have a lovely tempo run this morning despite my bad sleep.

If I only slept 5-6 hours, a healthy dose of exercise usually makes me feel like I actually slept 6.5-7 hours.

The tempo run:

  • Mile 1: 6mph, incline 2%
  • Mile 2: 6.2 mph, incline 2%
  • Mile 3: 6.4 mph, incline 2%
  • Mile 4: 6.6 mph, incline 2% (I sprinted the last 100 metres at 8 mph)
  • Total time: 37:57 mins.

I also did 60 lunges on each leg. I felt on cloud nine after this workout. I also got some super exciting news about my best friend and I have just been grinning all day long!

I made this easy nut dip last night. I have been meaning to make a nut dip for ages now and yesterday was a dip kind of day!

Feeling Nutty 5 Minute Dip

Adapted from ‘Rawsome Nut Dip’ from Dreena Burton’s Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cashews
  • 1/2 cup pistachios
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup almonds
  • 1/2 of a bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 6-8 tablespoons water
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of both basil and thyme

Directions: Toss ingredients into a food processor and process until almost smooth. Use a spoon to scrape side of bowl when needed. Serve with crackers, veggies, or on toast. This can even be used as a layer in a veggie lasagna!

IMG_2171

Note: Feel free to play around with different nuts- that’s what I did! Try to use more sweet nuts (cashew, almonds pistachios) than bitter nuts (walnuts, pine nuts, etc) for optimal results.

IMG_2124

This dip is really good! I toasted up some Ezekiel bread and spread some on and it was so delicious. I also can’t wait to try it as a layer in a veggie lasagna. I have been meaning to make a vegan lasagna for a while. Anyone have any good recipes?

IMG_2134

FYI: I updated some notes and observations about my Energize Me Creamy Fruit Dip from yesterday! See the original post for the notes (following the directions).

I am also glad to hear that I am not the only photo happy photographer!

I took about 40 shots for this photo shoot. A bit better, right? ;) I am trying to cut down the amount of pictures that I take because my hard drive is FULL of food pictures. It is actually quite ridiculous how many I have on my PC!!! I just love photography.

I organize my personal pictures in folders by year (2000-2002 are grouped together since I didn’t have many):

Untitddddddddddddddled

And within these folders are sub-folders organized by the event + date:

Untitlcded

As for my blog pictures, I organize them in a different folder on my desktop. I organize them by year and then by month (no specific dates). I am hoping to move all my food pictures onto an external hard drive because they are taking up WAY too much space and slowing me down!

Untiggtled

How do you organize your digital pictures? Do you put them into one folder or do you organize them by date or subject? What about hard copies of pictures- do you use photo albums?

I am the worst for not printing pictures. I have a gazillion photos on my PC but I never get around to printing any! Thankfully Eric backs up my PC for me.

Have a GREAT one!

mmmmmmm that dip looks so good! what’s the big news on your friend?!?! are you going to be an aunt?! how fun…i so wish i lived in florida so we could meet :) as for organizing my photos, I do it all in Lightroom and then export it all in files on my external hard drive. That’s just the system that works for me anyway.

it’s so awesome! it allows you to adjust the lighting (brightness, contrast, temperature, etc) for the entire photo and it archives it for you. you can also export into photoshop for more intensive editing, but i usually just use photoshop for sizing :) you should totally get it!

I just organize my photos into blogged and un-blogged haha.. then after they are blogged, I got through about 1x per month and only keep my favorite photos. I take tons of personal pictures, so I would need a whole other computer if I kept every single picture I have taken! haha

It was my New Years resolution LAST YEAR to start printing pictures. Recently my Dad gave me an old box of photos of pictures of him and my mom when they were young.

I realized that when/if we have kids I have nothing printed to give them!

MUST START PRINTING PHOTOS!

Ah, didn’t watch GG yet! I guess Serena and Nate are happening?

That recipe sounds aaaamazing. I don’t think I’m ever NOT feeling nutty–so I’m positive that I’d smear that on everything I eat!

That dip looks great! Will have to try it!
I love your mug too. What is it about mugs that makes us happy. Funny, huh?

We take loads!!! of pictures too. Only they are more of our 21month old daughter. I can take 50 and use only 5, so I know what you mean.
We organize them by event and my months, so we can find them easier when we go back to look for one. We have alot of files as well. Photography is wonderful! WE have a Nikon D40 with a zoom lens and love it!

Thanks for your post, once again. Love the new recipes you post. Sorry I don’t have any good enough to share, yet.

Have a great evening.

Ugh, I’m horrible about not printing out pictures too. Sad really b/c there are some really good ones I’d like to frame. That spread looks great. I made one recently myself and loved it. They’re so easy and tasty!

Just a quick post, cause I’m going out to get groceries, but I am going to make vegan lasagna this week with that ‘Hummnut’ spread and I can’t WAIT!!! I like lasagna with mostly tomato sauce and basil and fresh ingredients anyway [not into the white sauce!] so I think this should be fantastic and rich tasting, yet light on the belly!

I really need to organize my pictures like that. As of now, they are just organized by dishes that I cook. It is getting packed!

What an amazing looking dip!
I store my pictures on our external server. I have a pictures folder, and then sub folders with the date. Then for pictures that I need access to often, I’ll label more specifically like “pets,” “cruise,” “hubski” etc :)

I love taking pictures, though I tend to slow down in the winter. I’m also very bad for not printing anything! I keep meaning to start a little album with our dog pictures (since puppies are so cute. :-)) but I just never have time. And I haven’t found a decent place to print pictures around here!

Love the workout! I think I need to start involving more leg exercises in my workouts since I am not feeling my runs lately!

Yummy dip!

Wow, you are a dedicated photographer! I basically take 2-3 shots and call it a day.

I organize my photos by year and then by event, i.e. birthday, anniversary, etc. It is the only way to keep things in some kind of order on my cluttered computer!

I never print pictures, either! I’m so bad about that. I really need to print them because I’m so afraid my hard drive will crash and I’ll lose them forever

Hey Angela– I was just reading my new Fitness magazine, and I was reading an article about pushing it too hard when exercising. I read a story about “Angela from Canada,” and I thought, “Wow, that sounds just like Oh She Glow Angela’s story”…and it was you!!! How cool that you got to be in that article!
