Happy Halloween!
Before I get to part 1 of the giveaway, I want to share a last-minute Halloween idea.
I present to you: Spooky Shakes…
They are more homely than scary, but let’s just go with it!
I spotted this on Martha and I thought it was a cute idea. To make: all you do is melt a tiny amount of chocolate (about 1-2 tbsp) and then paint chocolate ghost faces on the inside of the glass using the end of a popsicle stick. Easy.
Place the glasses in the freezer or fridge to set the chocolate. For the shake, I blended vegan vanilla ice cream (I love almond or coconut varieties), with a splash of almond milk and some ice, served with a cinnamon stick. You could even make a healthier shake by blending frozen bananas with almond milk. The chocolate faces stay intact thanks to the cold smoothies.
Now, for part 1 of the giveaway…
Today, I’m celebrating YOU – the kick-butt, Green Monster chuggin, recipe-lovin’ Oh She Glows community! On October 31, 2008, I started the blog on a complete whim, not thinking I would ever have the attention span to stick with it, but here I am 4 years later still smashing my head against the keyboard daily and chasing my dreams. I am so grateful for each and every one of you who read the blog each day and my hope is that you find as much inspiration here as I’ve found in all of you.
Now, to celebrate!
1) Blendtec Total Blender & Twister Jar
Blendtec has been gracious enough to donate one of their coveted Total Blender Classic Wildside machines (picture above) valued at $454.95 USD! Whoa baby. I’ve reviewed the Blendtec before on the blog and I can attest that it’s a great machine.
About the blender: “Total Blender Classic Series® is the all-in-one appliance that makes smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, milkshakes, cappuccinos, margaritas, soups, sauces, bread dough, dressings, salsas, and more! It replaces up to 9 other appliances with one fast easy-to-use machine, at a fraction of the cost. This package includes the new precision tuned 4″ blade in the large nearly 3-quart total capacity BPA-free jar. The new large blade / large jar combination powers through tougher blending tasks and larger recipes with ease, and in less time.”
In addition to the blender, they are also giving away a Twister Jar (shown below) valued at $119.00 USD!

Thank you for sharing your touching (and often hilarious!) “lessons to my younger self” comments. If you are ever feeling down and need a pick me up, just read through the comments. It’s amazing to see how many of us have struggled with the same life lessons.

Love your site, Angela!
I would tell myself to say ‘yes’ to possibility and opportunity wherever possible, even if all I wanted to do was stay home and play it safe. And I would tell myself not to refuse the cute-Australian-guy-living-in-Barcelona’s offer to take me dancing on my 21st birthday (biggest regret!).
I would have told my 16 year old self to stop worrying about your weight, enjoy each day and savor each bite! Thank you for the great giveaway, your blog has been my fave since day one!! Congrats Angela!!
I would have told myself when I was 18 that I can pound myself into the ground working hard in school, but I learned in this past semester than I learn the most when I lift my eyes off the ground and take my nose out of the books to form relationships – b/c those last forever!!!
Just tweeted!!!
Pined the Dark Chocolate Cherry Walnut Truffles recipe!!!!
Honestly, I think I would tell 16-year-old me to exercise every day. I love your blog and your recipes and photos are great! Happy blogiversary!
If I were able to give myself advice, it would be: Trust yourself. Take care of yourself. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket!
I would tell my younger self to relax! I’m going to spend my 20’s stressed out, so enjoy those early years!
Thanks, Angela! My advice to my younger self would be to be careful who you choose as your friends. I have chosen a lot of great ones (I still am very close to many of my friends from middle school), but I have also lost a few by choosing the wrong ones. :-(
Learn to do things faster, but still well. There will come a time in your life, where speed is just as important as quality, and you will need to know how to kick it up a notch.
I would tell my younger self to plan for a healthy life down the road. I would ensure I had the healthy choices that would benefit me as I got older, such as eating healthy, exercising and taking care of my body then, when life was less complicated. It’s easier to maintain a healthy life, then to try and fix it later.
Live in the now. Stop waiting for the “next” thing to come!
Pinning your “rolos” recipe! They are to-die-for!
I repinned the coconut milk whipped cream. I want to give that a whirl in some of my recipes and see how well it does. :)
I do not have a blog or a Twitter account, however I did re-pin your Rolo knockoffs and plan on making them tonight!
“Life is too short to worry about stupid things. Have fun. Fall in love. Regret nothing, and don’t let people bring you down.”
I would tell my 16 yr old self to eat a healthier lunch than 2 packaged brownies and a milk and to lay off the candy bars as a snack before sports practice.
I would tell myself not to worry so much about what other people think. Just be confident and true to yourself!
I would tell my younger self that people are defined by the grace with which they deal with hardships in life.
Angela – thanks so much for your honesty, the inspiration that you provide and all of the recipes!
