Art Imitating Life

March 4, 2009

Well, today didn’t get much better in terms of feeling like I accomplished something! I felt like I was spread out over a bunch of tasks, and at the end of the day I had not much to show for it. Ah well, hopefully tomorrow will flow better! Now that I am going to the gym again, that is an extra hour out of my day and I really do miss that hour. But of course, I am so happy to be able to move my body again!

My workout:

  • Elliptical duration: 36 mins.
  • Intensity: incline 12, resistance 10
  • Max heart rate: 178 bpm (91%)
  • Avg heart rate: 162 bpm (83%)

It felt great! It was a tough workout, but luckily since it is no-impact my pelvic injury didn’t feel a thing! :) I still have not heard from the bone scan results- I called today to see what was up but my Sports Dr. had not received it yet. So slooooow.

I meant to mention that I did some yoga last night. It was in front of the TV while watching 24! Does that count?! LOL. I mostly did lots of stretching because my back has been so tight lately. It felt amazing! Tomorrow I am going to set aside at least 20 mins. to do some Yoga Today! Love that website- all the videos are FREE!!!!!

I was dreaming of the summer while working out…

CFW Inspiration:

Since I have been doing my no-sugar CFW, it has made me take a hard look at what I am putting in my bakery items. As you may know, the theme of Glo Bakery is classic recipes with a healthy twist! Since I have been feeling so good by not consuming tons of sugar, I have decided to use natural sugars as much as possible in my bakery.

In many of my recipes, I have modified them to be healthier. I have reduced the sugar, the oil, the butter, etc. But what about using natural sugars? Some of my recipes already do use natural sugars, but not the majority. I am going to experiment with using things like honey, Turbinado sugar, Agave nectar, and the like. With this decision comes a higher price, so I will have to see if there is a market for these types of baked goods (and I suspect there is!). I thought I would share this inspiration with all of you! This is not to say that I won’t be using any white sugar in my recipes, but I am going to try to make many of them use natural + unprocessed sugars.

It is Art imitating Life, if you will. ;)

Hey miss – I’ve got a question for ya: Could you explain to us a little bit about how the machines calculate the calories burned, and how reliable this measure is?

I did an elliptical workout today and (according to the machine) I burned way more calories (per minute) than I did going the same “pace” on the treadmill. Ach, I don’t think I’m explaining this correctly. I talked about it in more detail on my blog here: http://iamthebeholder.wordpress.com/2009/03/05/day-two-of-half-marathon-training/

Also – congrats on your workout! You kicked my butt. :)

Today I was running on the treadmill and I totally thought of you! For some reason, I wanted to be rocking an “oh she glows” shirt but realized that I don’t own one! I need to get on that and buy one! You’re awesome :)

This is kind of random but everytime I looked at your blog you remind me of someone and I could never remember who it was. Well I was watching LOST and you totally remind me of the blond doctor on the show. Check it out.

I love “The Fear”! It’s actually on my workout playlist. I love her satirical style, it’s hilarious. And nice lulu bag in the beach pic!

This is my second time hearing that song – I really like it! I never paid much attention to her either, but this is a good one :)

I’ve been thinking more and more about your no-sugar CFW, and I think I’m going to try it. I’ve been feeling really devoid of energy due to lack of sleep, etc. these past couple of weeks, but I’ve also been calculating my sugar intake, and I was really shocked. I figure it can’t hurt to try it and see what happens to my energy levels. Thank you!

Hey Ange!! I highly highly suggest that you try brown rice syrup. It is pretty much the only sweetener allowed on a macrobiotic diet and it is fantastic. I think it might even be cheaper than some of the other natural sweeteners (honey, agave). BR Syrup has this awesome taste and I just adore it. Plus, I can have it and not get a craving for more sugar :) (Probably why it’s considered macrobiotic.) Have a good night! I love how your CFW has progressed :)

I love Lily Allen – I actually have tickets to see her in concert at the beginning of April!

What speed do you go at for your elliptical workout?

Holy moly, this weekend is “Spring Ahead” so we lose an hour, right?

That’s awful, this weekend is probably the busiest weekend of my LIFE!!

On a side note, I too am a chronic list maker. :) My friends used to tease me ceaselessly in college because I would always be making lists of things in class, out of class, etc. :)
