I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??

The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

What is this thing you call reading?! I vaguely remember it from two summers ago when I actually read “Eat Pray Love”….but now…Now I read anatomy notes, and ethics which makes me very, very sleepy! zzzzzzz…..oh, ahem, excuse me! I’m awake!! I also read children’s books. Lots of children’s books! I’m a mommy and a student, wouldn’t cha know it!! So pick me, ooh, ooh me!!! Because I do make time to read recipes to make yummies for my family’s tummies!

I’m reading “Breaking The Food Seduction” by Dr. Neal Barnard. I call it my “vegan starter cookbook”. It’s the first one I recommend for folks looking to start the veg transition. Great info – easy recipes.

I recently read “The Complete Persepolis”, a graphic novel telling the story of a young girl who lives in Tehran during the Islamic Revolution. A very eye-opening and heart-wrenching story.
As for cookbooks, I am currently loving “The Candle Cafe Cookbook”. It was put together by a cafe in New York, and someday I would love to go there for a delicious meal.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get these three books….I absolute adore reading and creating from cookbooks as I learn more about my new vegan lifestyle. To understand more about combining foods & flavours would be such a big help! Right now I’m reading & cooking from Kris Carr’s new cookbook….and I ADORE it! So many great ideas. Im not reading anything food related right now. I need some good recipes. Trying very hard to turn the whole family vegan and Im meeting with stiff resistance. Also, I work shift work as a fireman and need to bring food in from home if I want to eat healthy. I dont know many other Vegans and have just started myself so its hard to get good word of mouth recepies suggestions. A good cookbook would be awesome!

I’ve actually been reading an old cookbook of my grandmother’s lately [she was an avid cookbook collector] the Amy Vanderbilt cookbook has some random recipes that I’m sure were ‘fashionable’ during the late 50s but it has been a fun read! I have also been using some vintage Moosewood cookbooks for nostalgia’s sake as well =)
