I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??

The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I’m currently reading the kind diet (for the second time). next up is wheat belly. ive ran out of books so ive been watching a lot of food docs ( hungry for change, fat sick and nearly dead, forks over knives and meet your meat where a few of my favs
In honor of Earth Day yesterday, I am re-reading The Food Revolution by John Robbins. I love this book and periodically re-read it as a clear reminder of the health, environmental and human benefits of a plant based diet. Any time I am tempted to stray from a vegan diet, all I need to do is pick up this book, and I am right back on track. Congratulations on the progress on your cookbook. I’m looking forward to it being published!
I’ve been eying these cookbooks on Amazon for weeks! I’m currently reading “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” by Jules Verne. I always impressed by his imagination, attention to detail, geologic knowledge, and his foresight. When he wrote the book in the 1860s, he was advocating for new sources of energy other than coal that were more sustainable! I’ve also been working my way through “Reclaiming Our Food,” by Tanya Denckla Cobb. A book profiling unique agriculture projects across the nation. And I’ve been enjoying the recipes in “Raising the Salad Bar.” I just made a really delicious Mexican bean salad last week.
Just finished reading “Room” by Emma Donoghue, and have begun “Thirty Pieces of Silver” by Carolyn McCray.
Because of your recipes, I now can make a full 28 things in the kitchen (one new recipe per month for 2012 and 2013) – including killer hummus (raves from everyone with the hot sauce in it) and Quinoa and Black Bean Salad – (I find myself someone addicted to this). THANKS!
I’m just started Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life and so far, I’m really enjoying it. The main character dies and relives her life over and over again, though she chooses different paths after each “rebirth”. Very interesting! I’m also going through the Le Petite Appetit cookbook as I’m making homemade baby food for my 8 month old. I would LOVE to own copies of all three of these cookbooks, with Veganomicon in particular. I’m a huge fan of Isa and Terry.
I am reading Eat to Live, working on revamping our household to vegan as our 6 year old son is a kidney cancer survivor and the vegan diet is working wonders to protect the little bit of kidney he has left. Plus I am feeling great!
I am reading “Turn My Mourning into Dancing” by Henri Nouwen, and “Eat to Live” by Joel Fuhrman MD.
Right now, I’m reading “Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids”. It’s giving me some awesome strategies for handling my 3 year old with some positive parenting techniques. I’d love to win these books to have some new yummy vegan recipes to cookup in the kitchen!

So, what I’m reading at the moment is A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin (the 2nd book from the Game of Thrones series, you may have heard about it, there is an awesome TV show, too). It’s really brilliant, I recommend it to everyone who likes this kind of fantasy/history saga!

I am reading The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. It is a FANTASTIC read. I was a bit unsure as I started, but I’m now nearing the end and have totally fallen in love with the book. I’d highly recommend it!
I am reading the “Engine 2 Diet” by Rip Esselsytn. I discovered this book after watching the documentary, “Forks over Knives.” I have been a vegetarian for almost 3 years now and Vegan for 6 months. It has completely changed my life. I have developed a passion for the plant based diet and am actively learning as much as I can!
