I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I’ve been drooling through Betty Goes Vegan (Annie and Dan Shannon) and Vegan on the Cheap (Robin Robertson). I’m also on book II of the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.
I’m reading a vegetarian magazine my sis gave me, and a McDougall cookbook! Thanks for all the great recipes, stories, and giveaways.
I just finished the perks of being a wallflower:)

Love new cookbooks for new tastes and ideas.

I just read a children’s book called “Bud, not Buddy” about an orphaned negro boy during the depression and how he goes in search of his ‘daddy’ after being in several abusive foster homes. Thinking of reading it to my kids if I can keep from crying through the whole thing!
I have two on the go, I am reading Awakening the Buddha Within and The Art of Fermentation and dreaming up new cooking projects along the way.
Good luck with the final push for your cookbook.
I’m reading “The Fault in our Stars” by John Green. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! But I’d gladly read a cookbook or two next!!
I just finished reading Why Men Lie by Linden MacIntyre, it was a great read. Looking forward to your cookbook Angela!!
I’m in the midst of the Game of Thrones series. As much as I’d like to say I’m reading something more educational, I just can’t tear myself away!
I just finished “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi –a quick read that taught me about the Iranian Revolution from a unique perspective.
just “liked” you on facebook!!
I haven’t read a whole lot lately, but have been reading documentaries on becoming vegan/ vegetarian on Netflix such as: Vegucated, Forks over Knives- and I have a few more to watch still. Wow, I´m really looking forward to your cookbook! Quality over quantity is a very good decision! Right now I´m reading “River Cottage veg everyday” by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, and i´m absolutely loving it!
Hey there Angela!
I’m reading right now an e-book from Institute of Integrative Nutrition, it’s the one that they give out for free when you subscribe. He he. I’ve enjoyed reading Thrive and The 30-day Vegan Challenge and they both helped me transition to a more plant-powered diet. They both have recipes and I like reading them and practicing in my mind before I try the recipe. ;p Also, I would suggest the 4-week Detox book because it has a lot of valuable information regarding health and wellness and how to better take care of the body and mind through plant-based diet, exercise and cleansing. :)
I can’t wait to grab a hold of your cookbook! God bless!
Wow, what a great contest! A few months ago I read The law of attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks. Loved it!! As for now, I am rereading the novel “the old man and the sea” by Hemingway – such a beautiful book!
I just returned home from spending eight weeks with my son and vegan daughter-in-law while I had treatment for breast cancer.
When I arrived, my son gave me their Veganomicon cookbook to browse for menu suggestions. The meals we had were wonderful, and it quickly became my “pleasure reading.”
Because of my cancer, I am really focusing on my health and diet . As a newbie in the vegan/vegetarian world I have a lot to learn — and nothing yet in my veg cookbook library. These books would be an awesome start! :-)
I am currently reading The Age of Deception: Nuclear Diplomacy in Treacherous Times from the previous (Nobel Peace Prize Winner) director in general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed elBaradei. Not exactly a vegan cookbook, it’s work related, but interesting. :)) I’d love to win these cookbooks though! Lots of love from Europe!
I’m currently mostly reading cooking blogs online :) I would love to win your contest! I just recently found your blog and I really like it and look forward to reading your cookbook.
