I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

Hi! I’m new to your site and I’m SO SO SOOOO happy I’m here. I’ve been having a hard time ever since I found out that I have a Soy allergy a few years past and have been driving myself crazy trying to find delicious foods that are completely Soy free (a nearly impossible feat in my household at least since I’m the only one the the allergy and my both my Dad n Sisters are against every everything semi healthy). Your website though, makes it so much easier! Right now I am currently reading book 5 of one of my all time favorite series “City of Lost Souls” by Cassandra Clare. It’s a fascinating tale following the life of a young girls who’s world gets turned inside out and upside down when she accidently witnesses what she *thinks* to be a brutal murder and falls in love with a devilishly handsome, though witfully sarcastic, demon slayer named Jace. This story has EVERYTHING you could possiblly want in a book series; Adventure, mystery, suspence, tragedy, Comedy, and of course…..Love <3 You should check it out. It's pretty good ;)
I’m always reading a lot of cookbooks at all times. I’ve been flipping through ‘Chloe’s Vegan Desserts”, “Flying Apron’s Gluten Free and Vegan Baking” and “Whole Grain Vegan Baking” pretty regularly lately. Yes I’m on a baking kick :)
Noncookbook: “Game of Thrones” George RR Martin (the series is good so the books must be pretty darn good too)
Oh how I miss Dreena’s cookbooks, I haven’t even seen the latest one yet (I had to sell the others when I moved). What a great giveaway. Thanks!
I just started reading mini shopaholic
I follow on Twitter, Facebook & Pinterest :)
I’m reading Undiet by Megan Telpner. She is funny and full of encouragement, when you read her book its like she’s talking to you!
I’m reading salt, sugar, fat by Michael Moss. Good eye opener book
I am reading clean eating by tosca reno. I love her books!
I also follow you on FB :)
Right now I’m reading Wish You Well by David Baldacchi. Pretty much anything he writes is great!
Also, I just got The Sprouted Kitchen cookbook for my birthday and I’m LOVING it!!
I generally have several books going at the same time… one for every mood. The book open on my iPad right now is Georgette Hyer’s Envious Casca.
I’m reading The 30 Day Vegan Challenge and the most recent Ken Follett novel, Winter of the World. I am trying to transition to veganism and I always find helpful advice and recipes on your blog.
I’m reading a business book right now, but I just ordered copies of Eat and Run and Finding Ultra. Can’t wait for them to arrive.
I am reading “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed – so far I’m really enjoying it. It’s refreshing to read someone write about the less enjoyable parts of backpacking – the heavy bag, the fatigue, the pain – that come with the amazing views!
Hey! I look forward to all your recipes being published.
One of the books I am reading is the The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. It’s definitely putting a more global and ethical perspective on food at our table. It’s a fascinating weird that includes the science in food as well :]
This is awesome! I am currently studying The McDougall Quick & Easy Cookbook. There are many yummy plant based recipes. Thanks for the opportunity to win the three cookbooks.
I just finished reading To Kill A Mockingbird (again), partly for work reasons as I’m study race relations in the American South, and partly because it is an amazing book. It’s probably the only book I’ve ever read for school and still enjoyed later and despite having analysed it in depth, the nuances are still amazing to pick up on while reading it.
