I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

Right now I’m reading Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. Before that I was enjoyed Thrive Foods. It isn’t until recently that I started reading for fun again; I have had to read so much for grad school that I had no desire to, but I forget what it was like to really get into a great book.
I have a couple things on the go right now. Just picked up a copy of Meghan Telpner’s UNDIET and I’m enjoying reading about her journey and uncovering some yummy, healthy recipes. Also, just dipped into Alice Munro’s DEAR LIFE which is UNBELIEVABLE. Such beautiful stories from a masterfull storyteller. And lastly, I’m re-reading THE GREAT GATSBY and getting exciting to see the film!

And…I’ve just started following you on Facebook and Pinterest :)
I would love, love, love to read the Flavor Bible. As a recent college graduate, I am just getting into the art of cooking, and I am LOVING every second of it. But I have to admit, I’m not the greatest with knowing which spices go with which foods, so this book would be an excellent resource for my newfound passion.
I’m reading Crazy Sexy Diet by Kriss Carr. I first came across her inspiring story in Hungry for Change and have followed her blog for a while but finally got my hands on her book as a Christmas present last year! Looove it and full of some great recipes too. Looking forward to the Oh She glows cookbook to add to my collection!
I’m in the middle of a guilty pleasure, sappy romance right now. Of course now that I admitted that publicly I’ll be forced to find something brilliant to read next. :)
Was introduced to your site by a young friend recently and OH how I’m loving it!!!
Most of my reading is done on-line as I research about my newly acquired vegan lifestyle, as well as health & fitness info. Keep that good information coming – it’s appreciated!
I just read “A Visit From The Goon Squad” by Jennifer Egan. It was really good!

Hi Angela,
Thanks for the giveaway! I’d love to be reading Nava Atlas’ Vegetarian 5 Ingredient Gourmet, but right now I am reading a great novel called The Meaning of Marriage by Tim Keller.
I’m reading ‘To kill a mockingbird’ by Harper Lee. I’ve seen the movie with Gregory Peck at least five times and reading the book is seeing the movie once more – I love it!
I just finished reading “My Berlin Kitchen” by Luisa Weiss and I loved it!
What a sweet giveaway! At the moment I’m obsessed with ‘Polpo: A Sort-of Venetian Cookbook’, which is just the most aesthetic thing ever made. In actual fiction though, I’m on 1Q84 and I’m so sad by how misogynistic it is :(.
I’m currently reading a book about Jean-Luc Godard, a French New Wave director. It’s for class, but I’m very interested!
& I follow you on Instagram & Pinterest! I don’t have a Facebook.
Love love LOVE your blog (join the club, right?!). Seriously a major source of inspiration, cooking and otherwise.
Just yesterday I picked up WOMEN FOOD AND GOD by Geneen Roth. Such up front and moving stuff. It is making me realize more than ever just how much I’ve healed my relationship with food since becoming plant-based.
ROCK ON, SISTAH!
Currently I am reading The Key by Simon Toyne. It’s a book about some christian monks chillin in the mountains of Turkey and I’d never thought I’d like this type of book but it turns out I love it! I’d recommend it to anyone – especially those who like mysteries.
