I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I actually have a whole stack of books I am currently working my way through! :o)
Hi!
I’m a law student and I’m supposed to be writing a paper right now due in 12 hours, but I’m on your blog. :) I have procrastination down to an art, just like cooking…
Because I’m in law school and I’m supposed to be writing a paper, I’m reading the African Canadian Legal Odyssey by Barrington Walker. After I submit this paper I hope I will have time to actually do some reading for leisure. :)
I’ve been reading “The End of Your Life Book Club” with the English teachers at my school in South Korea, where I teach. Great fan of your blog – I was introduced by a fellow teacher from Halifax. Thanks and keep it coming!
I’m reading Appetite for Reduction by Isa Chandra Moskowitz, my first ever vegan cookbook after becoming vegan in January. Your website has been a source of inspiration and has made my journey to veganism a piece of cake (quite often literally!).
Happier at home, by Gretchen Rubin, always reading cookbook and thought this would be a nice change
I’m reading “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer. It’s nice, informative and moving.
I could really use those books, since I recently turned vegetarian and I have a hard time figuring out how meals should be planned and what to cook!
I am reading “The Secret Life of Plants” by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. It is AMAZING so far! It explores the physical, emotional, and spiritual relations between plants and man.
I’m reading “the Green Kitchen” from David Frenkiel and Luise Vindahl. It’s really great!
I am reading ‘Me Talk Pretty One Day’ by David Sedaris- So funny! I also just ordered ‘Undiet’ by Meghan Telpner :)
This looks like a great promotion for veganism – the world needs many more examples such as this – thanks. Good luck with the book. I am a new convert, having been pursuaded by my wife. She had been reading John Robbins’ ‘Diet for a New America’ and ‘Food Revolution’ in Chinese but bought me copies in English last year. After reading them I got T Colin Campbell’s ‘China Study’ – and then got a second copy that I could lend out. Why, oh why have we allowed the meat and dairy industry control our lives in Britain and America especially?? – and control the deaths of countless millions. I’m in this for health -of myself and my family, of the environment and the whole world community. As a Christian I see this as a faith imperative. I’m praying that fellow believers will connect soon with this truth!
I am currently reading the China Studies and due to that book I am now switching my diet to vegetarian/vegan. Still trying to find my way to tasty and healthy recipes, so the cookbooks would be an awesome addition to my bookshelf!
Also following you on facebook ;)
I’m always reading some kind of foodie book! Just finished Toxic Oil by David Gillespie about the dangers of seed oils. Recently read 801010 which was very interesting! And am now enjoying Good Health in the 21st Century. Would love these books to add to my collection :)
I am currently fighting my way through 50 shades of grey. I’m half way through the last book and I can honestly say it is very difficult for me to pull myself together and finish it. After the 2 first books you kind of get sick of all the “action” if you know what I mean, hahah!
Anyway, I have been vegan for about 7 months now and I am loving life now. I would love life even more if I had some great cookbooks though. I’ve have thought about purchasing The Flavor Bible for so long and I will if I don’t win. I think every home cook should have it in their kitchen.
Wow Amazing to hear! Living the Dream :) I am currently Reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and it has truly changed my life. His teaching has made such an impact on my way of living, in every moment. His Words reminds me of what is of importance in life.. to truly stay present, embrace each moment and give love to Everything! In the end that is LIFE. What is happening right now. Love your blog. Keep shining! I have added you on instagram too :)
I am currently reading The Ecology Diet…I have suffered from systemic candida for 37 years..I am happy to say, I think I can live on tis diet for a year …but I can no wait until it is all cleared up and I can go back to eating all your amazing recipes….thank you for all your hard work…
I am a teenager who has been following your blog for a while now. Although I haven’t been vegan for very long, I consider myself experienced and knowledgable, but there is always so much more to learn and discover. Thanks to your blog I learn so much vegan amazingness! And as for all those products and places you talk about that aren’t in Australia… you now know my dream travel destination!
Looking forward to your cookbook! Believe it or not I am reading through an amazing cookbook and a massive one – 1000 Vegan recipes by Robin Robertson and I also recently finished reading Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation. What a great book that is!
I’m currently reading Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle. Love him!
I’m reading Crazy, Sexy Diet. Love it!
