I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I just finished Gone Girl and loved it. After reading some of the comments, I think I might read Geneen Roth’s book about Food and God.
Following you on Facebook and Twitter…and NOW on Pinterest!
I just finished “Skinny Bitch”. I’ve been animal product free for many years and knew a lot but this book really puts things in perspective in a humorous, insightful, and easy to read format. Great to share! It’s not so much about being skinny but about eating healthily and being aware of what really goes on in the food industry.
I am reading “Quiet” by Susan Cain.
I am currently reading Food Revolution by John Robbins. I have been vegan for about 1 1/2 years and have heard a lot of good things about his books. I have found your blog about 6 months ago and love your recipes can’t wait for the cookbook good luck. I currently own Veganomicon and Let them eat Vegan but would find The Flavor Bible and interesting add to my growing collection of cookbooks.
Just finished reading divergent by veronica roth and can’t wait to get my hands on the second book in the trilogy!
I am SO excited for your cookbook. I can’t tell you how many recipes that I’ve made of yours that have been huge hits at parties or family gatherings etc… I’m making your coconut bliss bars for a wedding shower this weekend:) I just recently finished reading Wheat Belly. Very interesting read.
Eat to Live by Dr. Fuhrman. Very eye opening!!
I just returned Cloud Atlas to the library (it was due) unfinished. Very interesting, but I just didn’t feel compelled by the plot or characters.
The latest and greatest book I’ve read recently would have to be a Leonard Cohen biography entitled “I’m Your Man”, and as for cookbooks, this evening I was perusing through “Linda McCartney’s World of Vegetarian Cooking”, “Refresh” (from Toronto-based restaurant owners), and “Crazy Sexy Kitchen” (Kris Carr).
So looking forward to your new cookbook! I do not have any of the 3 cookbooks offered in the contest so I would be thrilled to win them!
I am currently reading Aleph by Paulo Coehlo. Similar to his book The Alchemist, it deals with the themes of spirituality and self-discovery. I love how enlightening and inspring his writing can be. It makes me reflect upon my life and my relationship with myself and the world.
i just finished up a book titled “essential ayurveda” it details holistic eastern living. I absolutely loved it! I discusses so many concepts that contribute to overall well being and health. (not just food and fitness!) cant wait to read more about this topic. sidenote- love all the indian spices/herbs/etc
I’m currently reading as much as I can that will support my transition into a plant based diet. My conscience and body have been leading me here for quite a while. My partner and I are so appreciative of the resources and insight that people are wiling to share through their blogs. Thanks to all of you!
The last book I read was The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks! I follow you on instagram!
I have been paging through Vegan Baking, making a list of a few things I need to pick up at natural foods store, and also reading in a couple weaving books for current and future projects.
I am currently reading ‘Our Daily Meds’ by Melody Peterson. So insightful I’m totally hooked. I can believe this is what the world has come too. I love your blog and think that it’s amazing.
I have “Let Them Eat Vegan” and absolutely love it! I don’t own either of the other two but am very interested in reading them. Since I am currently living in China I haven’t been able to enjoy any cookbook reading however, I daily checkout your blog as well as a few others. As for personal reading enjoyment, I am currently reading “The Dark River” by John Twelve Hawks which is the follow-up to “The Traveler”. It is one of those books that you can’t seem to put down which makes it difficult to get to bed on time.
