Nothing like a Blendtec giveaway and 3 new smoothie recipes to kick off the weekend, right?
Happy Friday indeed!
Blendtec sent me a refurbished Blendtec Total Blender to review on the blog. I’m going to have a fun little giveaway to get your own engines revving and give this beast away to one lucky reader.
And boy, is this thing a beast!
As you may know, I purchased a Vitamix last year and I’m in love with it. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Blendtec. My standards are pretty high when it comes to blenders, so I’m a tough cookie smoothie!
This is a refurbished machine, which means that it was slightly used but it was inspected and processed in the Blendtec factory to restore it to ‘like new’ condition. Honestly, you’d never be able to tell that this machine wasn’t brand spanking new! It is in mint condition. You can also save quite a bit of money if you purchase their refurbished models.
Plus, you get to be all eco-friendly by recycling…what’s not to love?
Here are some specs:
- You can make smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, milkshakes, cappuccinos, margaritas, soups, sauces, bread dough, dressings, salsas and more
- The Total Blender comes with an exclusive Smart-Touch Technology which means when a cycle button is pushed, the Total Blender automatically speeds up and slows down, then shuts off when the cycle is complete.
- It turns ice to snow and actually comes with an Ice-Crushing Guarantee and has1560 Watts of blending power
- Blender includes: 32 oz. BPA free wet + dry container, Total Blender Motor Base, FourSide Pitcher, Vented Pitcher Lid, Recipe Book, Owner’s Manual, instructional CD
- It has 6 pre-programmed blend cycles (below) that are designed to produce optimum results for a range of blending tasks such as soups and sauces or whole juice. The instruction manual tells you how long each cycle goes for and it’s also displayed on the screen when blending.
- The pitcher is a wet and dry which means you don’t have to purchase another container like you do with the Vitamix.
After reading up on this bad boy, I threw a blending party and Eric and I got to be the lucky taste-testers!
Of course, the ultimate test for any blender is a Green Monster smoothie made with KALE! If you’ve ever made a smoothie with kale and it was chunky, I feel your pain. I suffered through that for a couple years before I finally bought my Vitamix beast.
After putting in my Green Monster ingredients, I hit the ‘smoothie’ button. I quickly realized that the smoothie setting (30 seconds) was probably not intended for Green Monsters because the greens didn’t pulverize enough after 30 seconds. I ended up blending for 3 smoothie cycles (1.5 minutes) instead of one.
After 1.5 minutes, it blended well and the kale was virtually smooth, but perhaps not as smooth as the Vitamix. It was a really close call, but I found the Blendtec was a tiny bit more coarse in texture as compared to my GM’s made with the Vitamix.
But again, it was so close, it’s almost a non-issue. And I’m sure many people don’t blend kale like my crazy self!
edited to add: Some of you told me to use the LIQUIFY setting for kale as it works much better! Good to know. :)
Up next, I made a few fruit smoothies and I was very pleased with the outcome.
Strawberry Cherry Basil Mango Coconut Cream Banana Data Cinnamon
These smoothies turned out I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E.
I tried another ultimate test for this beast- grinding flax. I’ve used a few blenders in the past that didn’t grind flax well, so I was anxious to test it out with the Blendtec.
Let’s just say it was PULVERIZED! Amazing job!!!
All in all, I think the Blendtec Total Blender is a great machine.
Here are some specifics that I love about it:
- Shorter height (15”) compared to Vitamix (20.5”) which means that it will fit under any counter top
- Easy to remove lid (I find the Vitamix lid is hard to put on and off)
- BPA free container
- Digital display (while not necessary, it is sleek and fun)
- No need for a Tamper stick like you need with the Vitamix. (The Tamper stick is included with a Vitamix to help push down and process ingredients. No need for this with the Blendtec)
- Contemporary & sleek design! Looks great on the counter.
- Wet + dry container all in one
Now how about some of those smoothie recipes to kick off the weekend?

Goodluck to all! Big thanks to Blendtec for this amazing opportunity!
Would love a new blender so that I can make all these wonderful recepies :)
It did a great job grinding the flax. With my blender if I try to grind seeds to sugar it ends up getting stuck to the corners and I have to use a knife to pry it loose and grind again. repeat repeat repeat. Ugh annoying.
All those smoothies sound great! Always looking for new ideas
Amazing giveaway & delicious recipes!
I’d love a new blender.
I would love to win this wonderful machine.. I have only been dreaming of owning one!! Thank you for a great and generous giveaway!
I sure could use a new blender, mine was dropped not too long ago and hasn’t worked the same since. I also need to try one or three of these smoothie recipes, they sound great ;)
So funny because just this morning I was making my green smoothie and thinking how I wished I could blend the kale completely smooth!! I would love a blendtec! I’ve been doing a 14 day green smoothie challenge. While I have loved it, when I go back to work in a few weeks I don’t think I’ll be able to do it daily because it takes my old blender close to 20 minutes to make a green smoothie blended enough that I’ll drink it.
I love smoothies!
I broke my old blender and am looking for a new one ^^
These smoothies look so good! I’m very intrigued by the Strawberry Cherry Basil mixture :)
I would just love a blender as I don’t have one! Been lusting over a Vitamix…but never could afford it. I need to try the Green Monster!
That is pretty awesome! Would love a high powered blender!
I’ve been saving for a vitamin or blentec for the last few months. Can’t wait to get rid of the 4 appliances it will replace.
I read the title and thought, “oh my god,” and pretty much that was just repeating over and over through my head until i got to the bottom. You are so awesome. I have a blender, but as every smoothie lover knows, it can always get smoothier. :P
I would love one of these! My blender is awful for green monsters!!
I would love to win this — need something to make smoothies with :D
I would love to win! All of those smoothies look awesome, and I love how this blender will fit under the cabinet because my current one definitely won’t!

I would love a new blender! Sadly my last one kicked the bucket and I never replaced it.
mmmmmm those smoothies look delish! but Kale?! you crazy!
I would love a blender. I can finally try a GM smoothie!
I have got to try that strawberry cherry basil smoothie! I love herbs in my drinks. I have done some research on Blendtech v. Vitamix and I think I would go for the Blendtech b/c saving space is so important in my teeny tiny kitchen. For now, I’m still rocking my Oster because I can’t bare spending hundreds on a blender… I’d rather save those hundreds for a bigger kitchen!
definitely making that mango smoothie today!! looks so yummy!
Oh my goodness, I have seen Blentec demo’s at Costco and the demonstrations are incredible. What an awesome giveaway! The smoothies look delicious also. The mango one is such a pretty color!
It would nice to have a chunky free smoothie morning.
Wow, what a wonderful opportunity! The recipes look and sound amazing. I think I will try the strawberry basil for lunch! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I’ve had my eye on the vitamix for a while but don’t want to cough up the moola for it right now. Would love to give this one a go!
Thanks for sharing
Oh my! I’d love a shot at that blender!
I want a Blendtec so bad! I am really trying to eat clean and would love to start making my own nut butters and a Blendtec would be perfect!
yes, please!
Yay! but I never win anything.
i love your blog!!! i can’t tell you how much i appreciate all of the recipies!!! :)
This blender looks awesome! Right now my blender is a little old and all my smoothies are actually “chunkies”.
These smoothies are making me hungry! I love your pictures and recipes, thanks for the great giveaway opportunity! :)
Considering that my current blender was a wedding present for my parents over 40 years ago and occasionally gives off a whiff of smoke when used to larger pieces of frozen fruit, I think getting a crack at this thing would be just dandy. :-)
Pick me!! I NEED a new blender. If i don’t win this one i have decided to sell one of my kids so i can get a vitamix ;)
I would love a new blender.
Oh My Goodness – I love these machines. I’ve been drooling over one for some time now…what a great opportunity!!!
I definitely need this blender – making green monsters in the single serve blender just doesn’t cut it.
That Strawberry Cherry Basil Smoothie is definitely something I want to try! I also love mint in my smoothies :).
Thanks for the opportunity to win! A blender like this has been on my wish list for a few years now! The Banana Date Cinnamon smoothie recipe will be given a whirl real soon in my everyday ordinary blender, win or lose…yum!
I have been eyeing the Vitamix but with the hefty price tag (and going back to school full-time in the next 2 weeks) it’s low on my list of “needs” vs. “wants”. I have a friend who recently bought the Blendtec and loves it, so I’ve been looking at that as well, trying to compare the two. The Blendtec looks like a great machine!
I have tried to make smoothies with my immersion blender, but it doesn’t work as well. I do want to try the mango coconut one; looks like being at the beach!
You know you have a good blender when it stands up to kale!
Thanks for the great smoothie recipes, perfect light summer breakfast on the run.
Currently blender can’t do margaritas well nor the kale smoothies. Chunky kale no more would be Bledntec-eriffic for myself and the family!!!!
Looks like a great blender, and the cherry basil smoothie sounds yummy!
I don’t have a blender but would love to try Green Monsters! This would be perfect; thanks for the chance to win!
OMG! I need a new blender so bad! My husband dropped ours on the floor and we are stumbling along with it! This is awesome! I need to try Kale in my smoothies!
Look like a great alternative to a Vitamix, thanks for the giveaway!
I just found your blog about two months ago and have finally caught up with every post from the begining (yes I am weird, I must know your whole story instead of just jumping in) but I love this blog and have tried many recipes along the way and now I couldn’t resist trying for a Blendtec!!!
New Blenders are the best!
